Leading Grapevine into the Cyber-Marketing Future
In 2010 the buzz words in
the marketing and computer
worlds are all about “Social
Media”. While many in the
Generation X culture may
think that is talking about
media journalists following
around the latest celebrities,
those businesses that use this
new medium have found great
benefits. Businesses, who are
not using the technology
available, are missing out on
advertising opportunities and
at times, losing customers
due to negative “twitter” and
“blog” postings.
At the June luncheon, we
will get an opportunity to
learn about the Social Media
age, and will find ways to
catch up and surpass their
competitors in this modern
marketing cyber-world!
J.R. Atkins is a Social Media
Speaker, Strategist and Sales
2.0 Consultant. As a speaker,
J.R. is noted for “taking the
mystery out of Social Media”
and speaking in terms that
“even a CEO can understand.”
He is best known for working
with Company Leaders, Sales
Professionals and Marketing
Managers on how Social Media
Networks can make a positive
impact on their organization.
As a Sales 2.0 consultant, J.R.
works with business leaders to
understand the shift in selling
that is occurring as more
consumers and businesses
turn to the internet for
information before engaging
in the sales process. How
has selling changed? How do
the metrics for sales need to
change? Using inbound and
outbound marketing, J.R. can
implement plans to increase

What the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Can Do For You
If you asked one hundred
different Chamber members what
they got out of the Chamber, you
would most likely get a wide
variety of answers. For some it
is purely a way to spend their
marketing dollars wisely. Where
else can you spend $250 for a full
year’s worth of advertising in a
community referral guide and on
a website.
For others, it is a way to
network face to face. Whether that
networking is to sell a product
or service, everyone likes to do
business with someone they know.
Luncheons, mixers, committees
and events are a great way to
do that. For others, networking
may be a way to meet new
people and to develop a strong
list of contacts – fellow leaders
in the business community who
can answer questions, provide
guidance, lend a hand or provide
direction in a challenging business
environment.
Some corporations find the
Chamber of Commerce is an
organization of businesses who
can support legislative efforts, or
can serve as a means of getting the
word out on issues that impact our
businesses daily. It is an avenue to
meet the elected officials in the
city, county, state and nation who
set the policies we must work by.
The Chamber is also a way for
corporations to learn about what
products and services are offered
in their own back yard, which can
save them time and money.
For newcomers to the
community, the Chamber is the
fast track to becoming involved in
the community and to integrate in
a shorter period of time. And still
to others, the Chamber is a way
of working along side others in
the business community to help
build a stronger community for
today, as well as for our children’s
future.
Whether you or your company
invest in the Chamber for one
of these reasons, or one of many
others, I want to personally
thank you for being involved
in the Grapevine Chamber.
Whether it is through your time,
money or talents, each of you
are a part of the success that is
the Grapevine Chamber. Your
continued involvement will help
build our Chamber’s foundation
and continue to elevate this
community and region as a
premier destination for businesses
and families for years to come!

Chamber Committees
The Program of Work for the Grapevine Chamber is designed, scheduled and coordinated by business
members to help them with their business and their fellow members through networking, education and
cooperation. Take time to review YOUR Chamber’s activities and determine how they might work for you.
Networking in Grapevine
Building on Your Chamber Investment!
Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary states that the term “Networking” can be a noun or a verb which
is “ the exchange of information or services among individuals, groups, or institutions; specifically: the
cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business”. Two words highlighted in that
definition are information and productive. Those two words are the goals of the Grapevine Chamber of
Commerce Networking Groups.
As the Chamber continues to work with the business members to improve the benefits of their investment,
the Networking Groups are undergoing some changes to meet the needs of the membership. If you know
all of the 850 business members of the Chamber, then these meetings aren’t for you. But, if you want to
take an hour out of your month to get to know other businesses in the community who might be your next
customer or referral, you need to put the following dates on your calendar.
Morning Networking: Noon Networking:
1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Main Street Bistro and Bakery (Chair - Steve Jenkins)
4th Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Chill
(Co-Chairs - Peggy Fermier & Dana McGuffin)
Economic Development Partnership
The next meeting of the Economic Development Partnership will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd
and will continue to be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month for the remainder of 2010. Chamber
of Commerce members take the opportunity monthly to meet with various City officials to learn about
development projects, activities and transportation issues that will impact their businesses.
At the May meeting forty-three Chamber members heard from Economic Development Director Dan
Truex, Director of Department of Development Services Scott Williams, Development Engineering
Construction Manager Scott Dyer, Gayle Hall, Director of Festivals for the CVB, as well as Bob McPherrin
and George Kakos in regards to the area hotels. While the economy is slowly returning to most businesses,
those in attendance were updated on several positive examples of this trend!
All Chamber members are encouraged to take advantage of this unique open door policy afforded to us
by the City and take an hour out of the month to become more informed about the businesses around us.
Chairman Doug Lawson of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine invites you to get involved in,
informed and excited about Grapevine!

Leadership Class of 2009-2010
The Final Chapter
The Leadership Class enjoyed graduation for their
year-long program at the Chamber luncheon in May.
While excited to have completed the program, many
in the class expressed their disappointment that the
year of meeting each month was ending. But, with
the Leadership Alumni getting set to meet again to
begin planning for the 2010-2011 program, those new graduates are now
able to move on to the next level of leadership and involvement.
At graduation, the class voted on their “Valedictorian”, and Charles
Mackres was selected to speak to the luncheon audience on behalf of
Leadership. Charles also presented a gift to Leadership Alumni Chair Jan
Smith for all her work with the program. Jan’s work has been immense in
the last two years, as the program transitioned from a program that was three
hours an evening for twelve consequetive weeks, to a full day program each
month for nine months. In that expansion, the program also added some
Leadership development with the inclusion of the John Maxwell book, “The
21 Irrefutible Laws of Leadership”, as well as developing curriculum that
involved the role that Grapevine plays in the regional economy.
The luncheon audience was also treated to a
performance by class member, Cory Halliburton.
Cory performed a song that he had written about
Grapevine during the year, “Bless the Vines”. It
was a wonderful tribute to the entire Grapevine
community and was enjoyed by all.
The class reviews of the programs attest to the success that Jan, and the
rest of the Leadership Alumni had on building this into an even better
program. If you are a former graduate of Leadership Grapevine, you are
encouraged to come to the posted meetings of the Alumni group and help
plan next year’s program while developing new contacts. If you are interested
in the Leadership Grapevine program, contact the Chamber office to get
your name on the list to receive the application for next years program. The
program is limited to twenty-five (25) participants, so it is imperative that
your application be returned to the Chamber as soon as possible.
Congratulations to the Graduates and the Class of 2009 - 2010

From Jan Smith, 2010 President
of the Women’s Division.............
This past month, the Women’s Division honored four Grapevine
gentlemen who have consistently supported Women’s Division
projects and programs by being very hands-on with various
resources. They have been our heroes by championing the cause
for fundraising efforts, providing pick-up trucks and labor, storage
space for projects, meeting space, and volunteering at our events, just
to name a few. The gentlemen honored include Ron Stacy, Marcus
Wayland, and representing the Grapevine Ambucs David Buhr and
Tracy Huneycutt. Thank you gentleman for caring so much about the
community and giving your personal time to support the success of
the Women’s Division and the Chamber.
The Women’s Division “Bling Team” proudly walked the track in
support of Grapevine’s 2nd annual Relay for Life. Special thanks to
Shonda Schaefer, who served as Captain of the team, and everyone who
supported the walkers and the “blinky ring” sales raising more than
$2K for the cause! Congrats to Kathee Livengood who coordinated the
Grapevine Relay for the City and Duff O’Dell who coordinated all the
teams. It was a very rewarding, memorable evening in Grapevine as we
came together as a community and raised $100K+ for the cause.
On Friday, May 21st, the Women’s Division “Beer Babes” were in
charge of selling beer in all the beer booths at the Main Street Days
Festival. What a fun and memorable weekend to showcase our Chamber
and our City! Thanks to all the Chamber members who volunteered to
help us in the booths promoting another successful event!
The Women’s Division Luncheon Meeting on Tuesday, June 15th,
will host a Vendor Fair for Women’s Division members to showcase
their businesses and network with colleagues. RSVP required:
[email protected].
Information about the Women’s Division, luncheon meetings and
membership applications are available at the Chamber office or on
the Chamber website at www.grapevinechamber-womensdiv.com.

Must Be Present to Win
Drawing Still Growing!!!
Again, those in attendance at the May luncheon want to thank
Andy Dillion of CMR Construction and Roofing Company, for
NOT attending, because his name was drawn for the “Must Be
Present to Win” drawing. Since he was not there, the $800 was
placed back into the bowl, and the June 2010 luncheon drawing
will be for $850! This amount will continue to grow monthly
until someone’s name is drawn who is in attendance. All
Chamber member names are in the drawing which is sponsored
by the Baylor Regional Medical Center at
Grapevine and they hope you are able to
“catch” the drawing each month!

A Couple Of New Committees Are
Being Formed, And You Are Invited
To Take Part Of The Ground Floor…
Research has been underway for bringing a Procurement Conference
to Grapevine. Think of this as a reverse trade show. Large businesses
have booths that are manned by their Procurement officers. Local
businesses who provide any products or services are then invited to
come and visit the booths and ask “How do I do business with you?”
Another aspect of this event will be the inclusion of seminars that
provide information on what large companies are looking for when it
comes to those product or service providers. If you would like to get
involved in putting together this new event to benefit our membership,
please contact the Chamber office at 817-481-1522 or email: klawlor@
grapevinechamber.org to be added to the initial committee. Meetings
will be posted via email to those who sign up.
Another concept being considered is a “Young Professionals
Development Council”. The idea will be to bring together young
professionals in the Grapevine Chamber with corporate business
leaders who will offer their perspective on what is needed in today’s
market place for advancement. With a global economy and a high
unemployment rate, young professionals will be able to talk directly to
corporate leaders and decision makers. As we all need to help develop
the leadership of the future, you are invited to contact the Chamber
office and sign up to help plan and implement this program. If you are
a young professional (18 - 35) or know of one in your company that
you would recommend to be a part of this, contact the Chamber office
as well at 817-481-1522 or email: [email protected].
