BIOMASS CENTRE PLANÁ Production of alternative fuels – wood pellets -‐ from forestry waste INVESTMENT SUMMARY 7-‐2013 1
Biomass Centre Plana
1. PROJECT SUMMARY In Český Krumlov reagion, municipality Horni Plana (South Bohemia, Czech Republic), establish a regional center for production of alternative fuels, mainly in the form of wood pellets. Our goal is to become a leading supplier of quality biomass fuels throughout the Czech Republic as well as for nearby Germany and Austria for both power stations and smaller users alike. Wood chips, by-‐products from the forestry and timber industries provide the raw material from which alternative fuels are produced by proven established technologies. Goals of Biomass Centre: 1) Install woodchips pelleting unit for production of wood pellets as an alternative green fuels and utilize the resources of forestry waste from the region. 2) Produce wood pellets with target capacity of up to 2t/h, e.g. 15.000 tons/year. Sales strategy: The revenue streams will be generated by: a) Sales of wood pellets to boiler providers, biomass wholesalers, as well as export through biomass stock exchange in Vienna. Pellets will be mainly be sold to German and Austrian or North Italian costumers at min price of 180 eur/ton EXW. Use of funds: Investment will consist from purchase of land and installation of woodchips pelleting technology. Market situation: There is increasing demand for biomass as green alternative for fossil fuels (coal, petrol, gas). Big heat and energy companies are installing biomass boilers as well as households are using biomass heating as cheaper alternative. The biggest Czech energy supplier (ČEZ) is estimated to utilize over 600.000 tons of biomass/year. Another energy provider, Plzeňská tepárenská a.s. has yearly consumtion of 235.000 tons of woodchips. Other installations are planned to start operation during 2011-‐13 and will increase the total demand for alternative fuels to approx. 3,2 mil tons/year. Project developer: D-‐Projects s.r.o. will be the project developer of the new biomass plant. D-‐Projects is co-‐owned by Glass Time s.r.o. that is a renewable energy development company, focused on development on solar and other renewable energy projects. Main recent achievements include finalized 1.3 MWh solar project in South Bohemia and development and sale of a 3.3 MWh solar project in South Bohemia to a large water company. Glass Time has also experience in international trade with woodchips and 2

other renewable biomass as well as located sources of biomass necessary for presented project. For more details on the company see www.glasstimeeurope.com. Technology supplier: As the technology supplier was chosen company Obilní Technika s.r.o., traditional Czech producer of pelleting lines. Team of designers and technologists are currently focused on projects of pelleting biomass, protein residues, sludge’s from biogas stations etc. 2. LOCATION Location near the city of Český Krumlov and regional centre České Budějovice, in the vicinity of huge forest (Bohmerwald) and German regional centre Passau and Austrin centre Linz was selected for installation of the plant. Management tem has excellent relationships and knowledge of local conditions in South Bohemian region and already successfully completed green energy project in this region. The area is very suitable for location of biomass plants for several reasons: •
availability of woodchips supply from local sources •
availability of suitable land pre-‐approved for industrial constriction to locate the gasification plant •
existence of several big biomass users (Biomass Power plants) in the region, reducing thus transportation costs •
labor force with both low and high level of qualifications •
High concentration of clients for woodchips and briquettes located in north part of Austria in Bohmerwald. 3

3. BIOMASS PELLETTING TECHNOLOGY By this technology a selected solid biomass (like saw dust, shavings, wood residues, woodchips, but also other suitable crushed biomass as rape straw, flax stalk waste, crushed paper, paper dust, textile fibers etc) are turned into alternative fuel with moisture content approx. 8-‐15 % without binders. These pellets can be directly used as fuel in gasification technology as reserve fuel in time of fresh woodchips shortage or be sold on the market. An estimate of investment and operation cost and profit from the operation gives table at the end of this project. It is estimated an average sales price of wood pellets with approx. 15% moisture at 172 eur/t, based on existing long-‐ter, offtake contracts. Installation of 1 pelleting press Kahl (2t/h) in continuous operation mode will require supply of approx. 30.000 tons of wet woodchips and waste residues and will produce approx. 15.000 tons of wood pellets. Technology delivery time is 4 month. General picture of technology: Technology drawing - see attached.
