PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Swimming
The swimming program at Kemp Aquatics has come to an
end and should have students better prepared for water
activities in the summer months. Over the next fortnight
the Year 5/6 classes will have 6 lessons at the Maffra Pool.
Then in the last two weeks of the school year the Year 3/4
classes will also have 6 lessons at the Maffra Pool. All
lessons will be taken by qualified swimming instructors
from Kemp Aquatics. Permission notes and payment are
due tomorrow. Please note that if you have a Season’s
Ticket and provide the school with the Ticket Number we
will not require the $10 payment. Contact the office if this
applies to your family.
Fun Food Day
Many thanks to Bec and her team, who organised the
special lunch today. There will be one further chance for a
rd
special lunch, and this will be available on Thursday 3
December. Students will have the option of purchasing a
barbequed sausage in bread. Order forms accompany this
th
newsletter, and will need to be returned by Monday 30
November.
Instrumental Music
Our music teacher Caroline Monck is currently accepting
Expression of Interest Forms from students who are in
Years 3 – 6 in 2016 and would like to learn an additional
instrument of choice from the range available. A note with
full details was sent home this week and should be
returned to Caroline as soon as possible. The $50 per
semester payment is not required until next year after you
receive confirmation of a place in the program. Caroline
will continue to provide music lessons for all classes as part
of the school music program, and this includes lessons in
recorder and ukulele at different levels.
Bike Education
All Year 4 students are being provided with a Bike
Awareness and Safety program starting next Wednesday. A
qualified Bike Education teacher is being sponsored by
Wellington Shire and supported by local riders. A separate
note has been provided to Year 4 students, with full
information including the need to have bikes at school each
th
th
day from 25
November until 4
December.
2016 Prep Transition
It was great to see that most of our new preps were able to
visit today and happily accepted their complimentary
school hat. The final transition visit for the year will be on
rd
Thursday 3 December between 2.30pm and 3.25pm. At
rd
7.00pm, also on December 3 , there will be an information
night for parents, giving details of the arrangements for the
2016 prep classes.
Prep Lakes Entrance Excursion
All prep students are off to Lakes Entrance on Tuesday as
part of their unit of study on ‘Our Senses’. They will be
heading off at 9.15am and returning about 3.00pm after a
full day of beach activities.
Parents and Friends Club
The final Parents and Friends meeting for the year will be
held on Wednesday at 7.00pm in the staff room. There is
certainly a lot to talk about with a busy last few weeks and
plans for the new year, including the Maffra Mardi Gras.
We’d love to see you there.
Graduation Planning
Also on Wednesday night is an opportunity for parents of
students in Year 6 to be involved in planning for the
th
graduation ceremony to be held on December 10 . If you
would like to be involved you are asked to meet in the
conference room, near the office, at 7.00pm.
Federation University Discovery Club
Year 6 students have been given a letter with an invitation
for them to visit Federation University in Churchill. They
will experience the academic programs offered at the
university and other aspects of university life. Hopefully,
this will open up their minds to some of the possibilities in
the future. This excursion is being fully subsidised by the
Maffra Primary School Council so students need only bring
back the signed permission note.

Walk To School - Kerry Jones
We have given our 128 individual charts/maps to
Wellington Shire and eagerly await the pool passes to
come from them at some stage.
Congratulations to Zac Harrington who was lucky
enough to have his map drawn out at assembly.
He won the totem tennis set which was one of the
prizes from the Walk to School organisation. We also
received a cricket set which has been enthusiastically
used already at school.
We also eagerly await information from the Shire and
VicHealth as to how our school went in the different
levels of participation rates across the Shire and the
State.
