Why ECOtronic?
This is how it works:
The generation of current with a conventional
petrol generator takes place at a high speed
range of 3000 rpm.
However, according to experience a generator often runs during use without load.
From today’s point of view this results in uneconomic use, for example when operating
electric power tools on building sites as well
as during repairs or emergency work. In order to meet the requirements, the ECOtronic
system was developed by ENDRESS and
is already used today as standard in the
DUPLEXplus-Line.
ECOtronic is a eco-friendly alternative to
conventional electricity generation. The
ECOtronic system recognizes during operation, whether power is being drawn or not.
The speed is clearly reduced, if no power
is being drawn. This happens automatically
and the generator keeps running quietly
and economically, however thereby always
remains in stand-by. The ECOtronic system
immediately provides full power again
without delay only when power output
becomes necessary, e.g. when using an
electric power tool.

That is the DUPLEX difference:
In the days where there were no electronics,
an asynchronous alternator was needed to
be able to achieve "smooth" electricity and
synchronous generators to tackle "heavy"
electricity.
With the DUPLEX technology, the electronic
control module adjusts individually to each
drive engine and reacts accordingly before
the engine is overloaded.

In this way power reserves can be mobilised
and the DUPLEX generator can startup even
the most heavy inductive consumers upward
and even protects sensitive consumers from
damage.
Thus all advantages of asynchronous and
synchronous generators are united in the
DUPLEX system and terminate thereby the
discussion which technology is the better
one, synchronous or asynchronous.
The fine difference:
An intelligent exciter is installed in the
ENDRESS DUPLEX system, where there
are usually expendable carbon brushes.

Slow speed unit (Diesel engines with 1500 rpm)
● Engines for continuous operation: 24 hours.
Working life = Service life: 10.000 - 20.000 hours (e.g. electric power supply and emergency
power supply).
Petrol engines should be considered when
the mobile generator should be small and
light-weight and must only run for short
periods at intermittent occasions.
High speed unit (OHV/OHC petrol and diesel engines with 3000 rpm)
● Engines for daily use: approx. 4-10 hours. Working life = Service life: approx. 3.000 - 5.000
hours (e.g. construction sites, trades people’s businesses).
Ohmic consumers
Inductive consumers
These are consumers, which do not require any start up current,
i.e. consumers whose power consumption does not increase up to
the normal operating condition when turning on. Starting current =
working current.
These are consumers, which only briefly require a multiple of the
indicated output when switching on.
With these consumers you can take over output data without
addition of further values.
Particulary electric motors require 2-6 times the indicated value to
build up the magnetic field as well as to accelerate to the working
speed.

the total overall output of the unit to be
connected does not exceed the continuous
output of the generator. You can find the
appropriate information on the type plate or
in the consumer operating instructions.

Start-up system
Diesel engines are heavier and more sturdy
and therefore better suited for longer running
times. The specific fuel consumption of
diesel engines is lower.
A distinction is generally made between two types of start-up systems:
1. Recoil starter to crank the engine manually via an automatic wind-up rope.
2. Electric starter via an ignition switch.
For your further information
Output information often refers to the maximum output of the engine without load on the
crankshaft = SAE HP usually at 3600 rpm. However, for electrotechnical reasons all engines
(high-speed units) must work with 3000 rpm. This already results in lower output even without
resistance on the crankshaft.

Therefore the following applies: Only trust output information based on 3000 rpm.

Types of protection
Why is it so important?
Electrical machines must be protected
against dirt and dampness, in order to
be able to function properly. ENDRESS
generators work according to the
protective measure/safety-separated
circuit VDE 0100. The safety-separated
circuit disconnects the supply lines of the
connected device from the storing network.
This prevents creation of a closed electric
circuit via earth. A special grounding is
therefore unnecessary.
IP = International Protection according to
DIN 40050
The IP code consists of a two digit number combination,
which indicates the respective degree of protection. The first
number specifies the safety class for contact and foreign
body protection, the second number the water and moisture
protection.

(RCD)
The RCD, as well as earthing or short
circuit switch, is one of the most widespread
electrical safety components to protect the
user from electrically charged parts, if they
should be touched accidentally. The power
supply is automatically disconnected as soon
as there is a loss of current to earth, e.g.
from a faulty conductor. A correct earthing,
to which all earthing lines of the unit are
connected, is the prerequisite for perfect
functioning of the RCD.

A so-called "constructed earthing" is no longer necessary due to the ENDRESS ISO,
irrespective of the underground. Furthermore, "calibrating" this preventive measure is not
necessary anymore. This makes it possible start working at any place of work without
preparations.
High impedance isolation errors are likewise identified safely and result in immediate
disconnection of the voltage.

comparison to a rotor with brush. In place of the collector
ring on a brush unit, the ENDRESS alternator has an
intelligent exciter, which provides the necessary energy to

The ECOtronic System.
ECOtronic is a eco-friendly alternative to
conventional electricity generation.
The ECOtronic system recognizes during
operation, whether power is being drawn or
not.
The speed is clearly reduced, if no power is
being drawn.
This happens automatically and the generator
keeps running quietly and economically,
however thereby always remains in stand-by.
The ECOtronic system immediately provides
full power again without delay only when
power output becomes necessary, e.g. when
using an electric power tool.

An intelligent exciter is installed in the
ENDRESS DUPLEX system, where there are
usually expendable carbon brushes.

The direct injection diesel engines in the ENDRESS generators
are characterised by quality, reliability and a long service life. The
engines comply with the strictest exhaust gas laws and fulfil e.g. the
exhaust standards, such as CARB. And additionally high-performance
synchronous generators with fortified phase coil, which are equipped
with an additional compound control for the three-phase current range.
A robust full tubular frame with large side panels protects the engine
and alternator.

The simple power supply for the most important consumers in the
house - connected by a supply line, such as extension cords and
multiple plugs. Is important with this type of emergency power supply
to check beforehand, whether the connected consumers, such as e.g.
heating, are connected to an earthed mains power supply.
Automatic standby power units – 230 V
If yes, then the emergency power units must be equipped with an
RCD and an earthing spike.
If no, then all standard units can be used.
4 steps for a fast emergency power supply:
1. Set up the unit outdoors, protected against
rain and moisture.
2. Connect the unit to the consumers.
3. Start up the unit.
4. The power supply has been established.
ENDRESS fully automatic standby generators automatically take over
the power supply together with the control unit in the case of defects
or failures of the mains supply.
The unit is started automatically and the consumers are switched from
the mains supply to the power unit after a short warming-up phase.
This automatic procedure takes place within the few seconds after the

The high-power synchronous generators provide the emergency power-entitled
consumers in the house with 230 V safely and reliably. The mains voltage is monitored
fully automatically and the unit is started independently if a phase voltage drops; the unit
is shut down automatically when the mains supply is re-established.
Important! Only a certified electrical company may establish the house installation
and supply. This company guarantees for professional and safe installation.

Automatic standby power units – 400 V
The decisive advantage.
Synchronous generators are not particularly suitable for a 3-phase emergency power supply, since these
generators are not suitable for unbalanced loads*. Therefore, for the 3-phase feed into the house electric
circuit ENDRESS relies on the proven DUPLEX generators for a safe and reliable emergency power
supply. The advantage of the DUPLEX technology is that the brushless synchronous generator IP 54
is fully electronically controlled and therefore suitable for up to 200% unbalanced load. Moreover, this
technology provides 100% consistent voltage, a distortion factor of less than 5% as well as up to 4-fold
starting current. Therefore, these units are not only suitable for private households, but also for smaller
enterprises, who would like to keep e.g. their EDP system running during a power failure.
ENDRESS fully automatic standby power units automatically take over
the power supply together with the control unit in the case of defects
or failures of the mains supply.
The unit is started automatically and the consumers are switched from
the mains supply to the power unit after a short warming-up phase.
This automatic procedure takes place within the few seconds after the
power failure. The mains supply continues to be monitored during the

a constant power supply and are therefore

The model series ESE 15 and ESE 20 are
equipped with the compact, water-cooled
YANMAR industrial engines.
Low maintenance requirements and high
quality distinguish these engines, which
have proved themselves worldwide. Oilcooled DEUTZ engines with direct injection
and turbocharger (depending on model) are
used in the ESE 30 to ESE 60 series. These
oil-cooled diesel engines are very reliable
and long-lasting. They are very economical
in continuous operation, due to their low
fuel and oil consumption as well as low
maintenance expenditure.
The brushless, electronically controlled
synchronous alternators of MeccAlte enable
simultaneous operation of ohmic and
inductive consumers.
Designed for highest performance under
the toughest conditions and manufactured
according to VDE 0530 - Class H insulation.

Oil and water-cooled
engines 15 - 65 kVA
DEUTZ water-cooled industrial engines with
4- and 6-cylinder inline engines of the series
2012 and 1013, are used up to model series
ESE 220. The engines with turbocharger
and turbocharger/charge air cooling provide
for professional drive. The advanced highpressure injection system and the individual
injection pumps mean that the engines
require less fuel.
The DEUTZ water-cooled V8 industrial
engines of the series 1015 part use starting
from the model series ESE 530.
The electronic engine control guarantees
optimal transient response during an impact
load (max. 0.3 sec.).
Direct injection, 4-valve technology and a the
environmentally friendly combustion not only
alive for good operational behaviour, but also
save operating costs.
The brushless, electronically controlled
synchronous alternators of MeccAlte enable
simultaneous operation of ohmic and
inductive consumers.
Designed for highest performance under
the toughest conditions and manufactured
according to VDE 0530 - Class H insulation.

Load transfer switch panel
The ENDRESS load transfer switch is to be considered as an option to the automatic control
panel.
They consist of a steel cabinet, which is supplied separately from the generator, and is
equipped as follows: 2 mechanically and electrically locked contactor pairs for the load
transfer between mains
and generator as well as all
necessary auxiliary controls.
In order to ensure easy
connection to the automatic
mains system on the generator,
all cables have already been
installed to a terminal strip
integrated into the cabinet in
the factory. The protection class
of the steel cabinet is IP 45.
Including emergency stop
button and 5 m control cable.
Electronic engine speed governor
for applications, in which extreme load
changes occur, such as e.g. large welding
units or when feeding to consumer networks
with extreme load fluctuations (control action
is faster than with a mechanical regulation).

simultaneously. Add 10% for ohmic consumers, in order
to obtain the correct unit performance. You should at least
assume double the calculated value for inductive consumers,
