Ogaki: City of Water 水の都おおがき
Children love animals. They are a product of nature and are an
important part of the treasure trove of organic form. With each
and every creature being different and unique, they offer us
infinitely expanding worlds. In this exhibition, children get to
touch, play and build with these sculptured forms as tools.
Giving children the opportunity to play, touch the different
textures, see the colours and experience the smells, helps to
foster their skills and imagination.
Art de Zoo hopes that children will enjoy themselves as they
develop, by playing with these lovely wood-crafted creatures.

November Highlights - Please note all prices, dates, times, and locations are subject to change Dolls Collection –from crafted and chrysanthemum dolls to

時をかける等身大人形−細工人形・菊人形からマネキン・フィギュア・ロボットまで−
The Yoshihama area of Takahama City is famous for being home to some of the finest doll
craftsmen in Japan. During the Edo Period many craftsmen who specialized in producing “kiku
ningyo” were practicing their skills all over Japan. These dolls are decorated with chrysanthemum
and other natural materials all over their bodies and are often based on kabuki and other
traditional themes, so they are all made to be life-sized in scale.
At this exhibition you’ll not only get to see these “kiku ningyo” and other traditional dolls, but
you’ll also see mannequins, robots and other life-sized works. You can also explore old post cards,
photos, ukiyoe and other related items from the Edo Period as well as department store and
exhibition displays from as far back as the Meiji Period (Japanese department store history dates
back even further back than the Meiji Period).

Antigravity 反重力展
Antigravity is said to be the force that might be accelerating the expansion
of today's universe - the power of repulsion, in opposition to gravity, that led
to the sudden inflation of the universe soon after the big bang. In works of
science fiction, the concept of antigravity is often found in hypothetical
technologies that nullify or control the effect of gravity on matter, on
objects; it serves as an underlying principle in visions of space travel, teleportation and floating cities. In this exhibition we are adopting the term to
reflect today's society with its accelerated dematerialization, and to imply a
sense of being freed from the limitations of the physical body and gravity
that have always prescribed our lives.
In this exhibition, we will present works that elicit a buoyant spatiality
seemingly free from the body, that grasp this world with a macroscopic
viewpoint removed from on-the-ground sensibilities. When the foundations
that have supported people's lives fall away, does hope spring forth, or does
the path ahead only lead to despair? For focusing on the subject of antigravity may also lead to a questioning of today's utopianism.
