Effects of decisions long ago…
Chuck Sackett| Preaching Ministry

At least a generation ago (recently resurrected and reaffirmed) the visionary elders of this congregation
determined that we should pour our efforts into young people. We should send them to camp and to
the mission field and to the Bible Colleges. And we did…
Today, we’re seeing the fruit of that decision more than ever before. There have been those that were
affected early on. But in recent years it’s easy to see the consequences of that decision (I know I’m
going to miss some folks, so please forgive any oversights—in fact, remind me of whom I’ve missed).
These folks come to mind: Sarah (Mitchell) Semenick, John and Shawna (Nobis) Mitchell, Jon and Jessica
(Farlow) Pittman, Erin (Schaffer) Williams, Tom Nobis, Tyler Nobis, Casey Bell, Stephanie Hill, and Chris Stevens.
A decision was reached to raise up missionaries from among us…and send them. And we are… We sent Mark Burbidge this winter—
back to Zimbabwe. He was converted on a mission trip that involved Casey Bell and Tom Nobis. This year alone we will be adding Tyler
Nobis as a long-term “missionary” to the campuses of the Providence, Rhode Island area. For a year we’re supporting Stephanie Hill
at Downline Ministries in Memphis.
Vision pays off. Seeing a future clearly enough to believe God can do something is remarkable, acting on it even better. Living long
enough to see it come to fruition is icing on the cake. Thanks to all those visionary leaders. Thanks to all those parents willing to send
their children on the incredible journey of ministry.
There are more. They are still coming. There will be more. They will still be coming. And the future is incredibly bright for the kingdom
of God because of it. Celebrate. Rejoice. Prepare. The gates of hell will never prevail against the onslaught of God’s people!
Till Death Do Us Part – One Couple’s Story

I had the privilege of knowing Bruce and Esther Hamilton in my first ministry in Grandview, WA. When I
first met them they were 90 years old and rather frail. Neither one weighed over 100 pounds. They often
could be seen walking down the street, arm in arm. One day they explained to me that they both had a
tendency to wobble. They walked arm in arm so that if one wobbled, the other could keep them from
falling. To my knowledge, they never wobbled at the same time.
The day came when Bruce and Esther had to go to a nursing home. They went together and they had arranged to be in the same room.
One day I went to see them and in the course of our visit, Bruce said, “I hope Esther dies first.” I thought to myself, “Bruce, that doesn’t
sound like you. That is not the loving husband that I know you to be.” Then he went on to say, “I don’t want Esther to go through the
grief and hurt if I die first.” I realized then that he knew that one of them was going to experience the painful hurt of grief. Bruce was
willing to be that one.
When Jesus is Lord, we think differently. When Jesus is Lord of our marriage, that difference shows up in how we relate to each other.
All the things that Jesus teaches regarding what it takes to follow Him, begin to take shape as a husband and wife live together. We
learn that sometimes we suffer. But our suffering takes on a deeper significance because we know that Jesus suffered for His bride, the
church. When Bruce made the choice to suffer for his bride, it was another moment that their marriage took the form of a wedding
picture of Jesus and His bride, the church. For a young husband (I was 27), it was a very beautiful and powerful picture.
The end of the story is that God granted Bruce’s prayer. Esther did die first. But Bruce did not suffer very long. He died about a month
later. They had been married for over 70 years.

main stage, as well as a wide array of games and activities for
kids! Men’s ministries will be grilling. Smoothies and hot & iced
coffees will be available. This is a perfect opportunity for you

Dayfest update
What a great day we had at our first annual DayFest for
preschoolers, which was held on Mon., June 13! 89 preschoolers
were registered, and the day included Bible lessons, crafts, meals,
recreation, music, illusions
with John Mott, and a
trip to Going Bonkers.
If you ask the 45 adults
and students who helped
facilitate this event, they
will probably tell you that
they were exhausted by
the end of the day (which
started at 7:15 am and
ended at 5:15 pm). Though the exhaustion was worth the
opportunity to teach young ones about forgiveness, which
was the theme for the day. The kids were also pretty tired as
evidenced by some of them falling asleep during our final group
time together. One parent said her child came home, went to bed
early, and did not wake up till the next morning. Lance & Kim
Hampton, who are missionaries in Taiwan, were with us for the
day and we collected an offering of $721 for them. That is a lot
of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Our DayFest Team put
together a great day. Thank you to Amy Carper, Linda Haverstock,
Toni Smith, Sara Stone, and Carrie Trowbridge, for planning and
executing a fun-filled, Bible-based day for our youngest ones. We
are looking forward to next year.

Sympathy:
I want to thank ‘Local Sweat’ for their help. What a testimony of love
you all were as you worked hard and cheerfully in the heat. Your
generosity accomplished so much. I am deeply grateful to everyone
who had a part. May God bless each of you.
• Jean Walton on the passing of her mother.
• Eva Beth Dismore on the passing of her husband Wayne Dismore.
Helen Ehresman
What a wonderful group of Junior High young people at Madison Park
Church. They removed my old bushes and replaced them with new
beautiful ones. It was 92 degrees but they worked until the job was
finished. My thanks to all of them and Tyler, Jenny, and Keith. Also,
thank you Les for the use of your truck.
Faye Treuhart
We would like to thank the Madison Park Community for all the
prayers, concerns and donations after our daughter and son-in-law,
Becca and John Alves, lost their home in the Joplin, Mo tornado. We
have been deeply touched and humbled by your generosity. We know
God is at work helping to rebuild their community through the hard
work of so many. Our Madison Park Family is so special to us! We love
you!

Serving the World:
Summerfest Volunteers
Chrissy Stevens is training (for another year or less) to be a
language surveyor with Wycliffe Bible
Translators. “As a language surveyor, I
will be a trailblazer, of sorts, for Wycliffe
to enter yet uncharted areas from which
I will have gathered linguistic and social
information. Wycliffe will then start
community development and Bible
translation projects in the areas I will
map out based on the assessed needs.”
The Dorcés Wilckly, Dee, Ashley, Kelsey, and Josiah minister in
many ways through Blessing Hearts International. “We live in the
village of Carries. Our ministries
include a medical clinic, several
Christian churches, six Christian
schools, and outreaches to many
other Christian churches in the
mountains and surrounding areas.
Our goal is to encourage those in
the churches and help better equip
and train those already in the area
how to best serve
those churches. Our goal with the
schools is, of course, to help them learn to read and write. Our main
goal, however, is to take advantage of the great freedom we have to
share Christ boldly... right in the classroom. Our goal is to win others
to Christ....one by one.”
The McMichaels’ Chris, Kelly, Ethan (14), Austin (10), Isaac (8),
and Andrew (6) are living and working in Nairobi, Kenya. “As a
family, we are what you could
call intentional Christians in the
workplace, on the street, and in
our home.”
A fun and exciting afternoon has been planned for the whole
family! Many volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts at a
variety of stations. Please contact Shannon Slee to get plugged
in: [email protected] or 222.2529. Another
way to participate in this event is by inviting friends, family,
neighbors, and co-workers!
G.A.P
(God’s Acts Performed) Work day is, July 16, 7:00 am. GAP
provides assistance to widows, single moms, and disabled
individuals. Please stop by the guest center to request assistance
with yard work, general home repair, and basic repairs to home
equipment.
Serve Station
For the month of July we are collecting school supplies
(backpacks, pencils, glue, erasers, rulers, crayons and more). Stop
by the Serve Station for a complete list. Also, stop by the Serve
Station to find different ways you can Serve Each Other, Serve
Our Community, and Serve the World.
New Start Mission Meals: Prepare and serve a meal
to the men at New Start Mission. Each Monday and Friday night
people bring in a meal at 6pm and serve 8-10 men. You (your
family, Connect group, another couple) are encouraged to eat
with the men and stay for a short Bible study following the meal.
