Do you need hope and healing in your personal and family life? Are you being seduced
by the comforts of the world and losing your commitment to marriage and friends?
Are your loved ones communicating by texts rather than spending time and talking to you
in person? Are you struggling with pride, anger, lust, greed, envy, gluttony and sloth rather
that striving for humility, kindness, forgiveness, diligence, temperance, purity and charity?
To grow in virtue and control our vices, Jesus offers us hope and healing.
God promised “The Lord of Justice” to Israel through the prophet Jeremiah. “He will do
what is right and just” and foster safety to his people. Jesus warns us to lift up our minds
and hearts to Him rather than “become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the
anxieties of daily life.” How do we stay vigilant and zealous so that we can partner with
Jesus in restoring trust, integrity and compassion in a society that refuses to believe in God
and the wisdom of the Church?
I believe that Pope Francis keeps showing us the Way and Truth of Jesus by deeds of
charity and compassion. Our spiritual leader certainly has to judge good from evil, but
first he touches everyone with the love and mercy of Jesus. Our Holy Father sees Advent
has the “horizon of hope.” Only faith in God gives us hope to overcome sin and journey to
sainthood. We all need a Savior. Jesus, our Savior, sacrificed Himself for us so that He can
grace and guide us to offer others hope and healing. So, we can only save our self by helping
to save others as Good Samaritans.
Love is a decision. As Christians we must ask, “What would Jesus do?” Mom used to
caress with one hand and correct us with the other. Because of Original Sin we all need to
examine our conscience to see whether we are choosing life and love or sin or death. The
comforts of this world might feel good, but how to they affect us as a Christian. If we entrust our lives to Christ’s will and plan, his Holy Spirit will empower us to become the best
version of our self and help others to discover their true self. Each Tuesday and Saturday, we
offer you the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The merciful heart of Jesus invites you to enjoy
his pardon and peace through our priesthood.
Matt Manion and the Catholic Leadership Institute surveyed that devotions and small
group faith sharing best promote true discipleship. Grow as a disciple of Jesus this
Advent by participating at daily mass, adoration, faith formation classes and one of
our scripture reflection groups. I guarantee you this Christmas you will be more
loving and merciful like Jesus.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
Each Tuesday of Advent at 7 PM-7:30 PM and Saturdays at 4:30 PM. You
may always call to make a personal appointment with one of our priests.

Pope Benedict XVI’s Prayer for Priests
Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest, you offered yourself
to the Father on the altar of the Cross and through the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly
people a share in your redeeming sacrifice.
Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests.
Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial
priesthood may be ever more conformed to you,
the divine Master. May they preach the
Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.
Let them be shepherds according to your own Heart,
single-minded in service to you and to the Church
and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.
Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the flocks
entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life
whereyou live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. AMEN

SMM EMPLOYMENT NETWORK
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1 at 7 PM
As if the job search isn’t tough enough, now comes the
holidays. How do we keep up all the work we have put into
finding a new position when there are so many other things
to do? Now is not the time to slow down our job search
efforts and miss opportunities—just the opposite!
To help us maintain our momentum, Rhonda Watson,
PHR, SHRM-CP, will discuss how to advance our job
search during the holidays with a targeted strategy, including
enhancing our personal brand, using holiday networking
to our advantage and tips on getting an edge in the job
market while everyone else is shopping! Please join us in
the St. Francis Room at 7 to 8:30 PM.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS
SERVANT OF GOD
FR. BILL ATKINSON, O.S.A.
Blessed are you,
Father of life, source of
goodness and peace,
In whom all creation has its origin
And by whom every person is loved.
In Father Bill Atkinson
Your mercy and compassion
Were made manifest
As he brought solace to the suffering
And hope to the needy.
By carrying the cross of life faithfully
He proclaimed confidence in your love
And conformity to your will,
And so drew others to you
And to the generous gift of your grace.
Hear our prayers
Which we offer through his intercession
So that as your work continues to unfold
Among us it may bring honor to you,
Comfort to your people,
And, according to your will,
Glory to your servant.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Msgr. Ralph thanks you for prayers for baby, Luke James,
and for his nephew, James, and his wife, Kristen Kilcur. Luke
is recovering with the love of his big sister, Annabell.

ALL AROUND SMM
TODAY’S GOSPEL
Read: Luke 21:25-28, 34-36
Pray that you have strength…to stand before the
Son of Man. Advent begins where the church year ends:
with images of cataclysmic change. Apocalypse is the
name for such images, featuring literally earth-shattering
events that bring the world as we know it to a halt. Panic
and dread are widespread in such scenarios; people die
of fright when everything they’ve trusted is revealed to be
reliably ephemeral and fragile. The significance of history
altogether is called into question as its self-importance
is exposed to be a sorry curtain pulled across what really
matters and lasts. The message of apocalyptic writing is
always the same, best expressed in a familiar signpost in
The Wizard of Oz: “I’d Turn Back if I were You.”
The warning is sincere. Trusting in the material world,
subject to time and change, is the worst bet in history.
Those who trust in the Lord alone will never have
to fear time, change, or death itself.

LAUGH WITH THE PASTOR
A store owner bought a big watchdog to protect his
business. The dog loved to curl up right across the
doorway of the store and fell asleep. Unlike many
watchdogs who are alerted at the slightest noise,
this dog often kept sleeping even as people stepped
over him to enter the store. Outside the store was
a big sign: “Beware of dog.” Visitors to the town
would ask why they had to beware of that dog
sleeping in the doorway. The owner smiled and said:
“Well, before I put up the sign, people were
always tripping over him.”
The wIll of God never takes you to where
the grace of God will not protect you.
