Johana Copes’ career as a tango dancer began in 1993. She has an academic classic background,
including flamenco and jazz training, theatre and musicals.
She is considered as a pioneer in opening doors for the Tango Dance to young people. As of today, she
is recognized as one of the world most prestigious Tango dancers and choreographers; as well as a Tango
Dance stage organizer.
She travelled around the world as part of the company of his famous father, Mr. Juan Carlos Copes. She
was his assistant choreographer, first dancer and she is running the company, at present.
She participated in the most prestigious Tango shows all over the world, from Broadway to Japan,
Germany, Italy, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, the Netherlands, France, United Arab Emirates, etc. Just to name
some of the shows: “Tango Argentino” , “Gotan”, “Los Grandes de la Danza”, “Copes Tango
Copes”, “Argentina Todo un Show”, “Entre Borges & Piazzolla”, “Sentimiento de Tango”,
“Argentine Tango Review”, “Fascinación & Tango”.
She was invited as a special guest in well known Tango-Show Theatres for tourists such as: Casa Blanca,
El Querandí, Esquina Carlos Gardel and Tango Porteño.
She had a role in Carlos Saura’ s film “Tango”, which was nominated for an Oscar ® in 1997. She also
took a leading part in Leon Gieco’s “Alas de Tango” video.
Other commercials had her as leading lady: “Perfume of Godesses” (for TSU COSMETICS) and in “2010
Vancouver-Canada Olympic Games” she was the Argentine representative.
In 1999/2000, she was part of the famous “Tango Argentino” show in Broadway (New York).
At present, she is member of the Jury both for the Metropolitan and World Tango Championships
which take place every year in the City of Buenos Aires as well as in other Argentine and foreign cities.
She was the organizer and choreographer of the World Tango Championship opening in 2009 and
closure in 2013.
In 2012 and 2013, Johana was the Coordinator of the Jury in the World Tango Championship. Since
2012 she organizes the teaching programs, shows and every event related to the Tango Dance Festival
and the World Tango Championship in the city of Buenos Aires.

She is the director and producer of the “Bailemos Tango” (Let’s dance Tango) Festival which takes place
in Buenos Aires since 2005. Also, she created the first female festival called “Lady’s Tango” which she
has been organizing and producing since 2007. This show was staged in London (2012) and in San
Francisco (2013).
Johana was the coach for some celebrities such as: Liza Minelli, Jennifer López, Julio Bocca, Soledad
Sylveira, Marcelo Tinelli, etc.
In 2000, she and her father were the choreographers of the show “Copes Tango Copes”. In 2002, she
designed the choreography of “A todo Tango” on stage at the Metropolitan Theatre in Buenos Aires.
Her first own dancing group under the name of “Arrabaleros” was formed in 2004 as well as her own tango
company “Sello de Tango… Copes”
She was Assistant Choreographer and had a role in a successful typical Argentine farce (sainete) called
“El Conventillo de la Paloma” (a kind of very poor tenement house where young and pretty Paloma
lived) which was on stage in the prestigious Cervantes National Theatre, in 2010,2011, 2012 and 2014.
On March 2011, Johana was the director and choreographer of one of the scenes of “Tango Porteño” in
homage to women. In 2014, it returned to stage at Usina del Arte.
Lately, she designed the choreography for the play “Recuerdos Olvidados” (Forgotten Memories). In
the near future, Johana and her own company “Sello de Tango Copes” will go on a tour covering the
Argentine Republic as well as important theatres of main cities of Brazil and United States of America.

Her present dancing partner is Mr. Joaquín Besga who got his degree as National Dancer in the National
School of Dance “Aída Mastrazzi”. He started his training as a tango dancer when he was very young
and, fortunately, with great techers. He also performs Break Dancing and Hip Hop.
He also danced in prestigious tourists Tango-show places, such as “El Querandí”, “La Cumparsita”, “El
Balcon de la Plaza”, “Homero Manzi”, “Bien Porteño”, “La Estancia” and “Taconeando”.
In 2006 and 2007, he taught tango dance as part of the scholar curricula in Colegio de Lenguas Vivas, a
well recognized college in the City of Buenos Aires. He was also invited to coach in different local and
foreign Festivals.

He danced in “Buenos Aires Tango”, “Pasión de Tango”, “Fuga Tango” and in the recognized and
prestigious company of Mr. Juan Carlos Copes.

They participated in different international festivals, such as: “San Telmo Festival”, Menezunda
Festival”, “Argentine Tango Ballroom Festival”, “CITA” and “Buenos Aires 7th Lady’s Tango
Festival”.
They were members of the Jury and offered several seminars in different sites of the World Tango
Championship as well as in the International Championship that took place in Medellín, Colombia.
They danced in the special show prepared for the 10th anniversary of the famous “Tanguetto Band” and
gave dancing exhibitions in the most important “milongas” (tango ballrooms): “El Parakultural”,
“El Floreal”, “Milonga de los Zucca”, “La Nacional”, among others.
They have visited six Italian cities to give exhibitions and seminars and they were nominated “Honorable
Visitors” of Sicily by the Siracuse Ministery.
