Coon Rapids Snow Cruisers November 06, 2013
Our first club ride will be an overnight trip and is set for
Jan. 11 & 12. We will be leaving the AmericInn in
Proctor at 9 am Saturday, Jan. 11th and riding to Eveleth.
We will stay at the Super 8 in Eveleth on Saturday
evening and return to Proctor Sunday. Mileage on
Saturday will be 135-145. The return trip on Sunday
should be about 90 miles. This mileage was sent to me
by one of the MnUSA Directors in Duluth.
Everyone is responsible for making their own
reservations. Call and make your reservation ASAP as
the rates go the closer we get to Jan. 10 and the hotel
may be totally booked. The rate for the AmericInn in
Proctor this morning was $98.98 plus tax with an ARRP
discount for 2 people. The rate at the Super 8 in Eveleth
is $93.40 plus tax and they only have 5 double rooms
left but do have more singles. Cancellation policy at
both locations is 24 hours – so if Mother Nature doesn’t
cooperate, we can cancel at no charge!
Based on the response at the meeting last night, we are
expecting 10-15 riders. Don’t wait because these hotels
will book full very soon. The contact information for
each hotel is listed below. When making reservation, let
them know you are with the Coon Rapids Sno Cruisers
and they will try to keep our room close together.
Please let me know when you have made your
reservation.
The Bemmels and McDowell’s are booked

Membership/dues
Paul was just about finished the membership renewal.
He figured we would lose about 5 members when all is
done...
Safety training:
Scott wanted people working the start to come in a little
early and help set the room up. He has signed up about
55 kids. Scott was very happy with the support he was
getting from his signup paper. Scott went over what the
format was going to be for the night.
Bob suggested that somebody should approach Pro
power to see about getting a lender sled. Barry will
check with them.
New Business
Blue Smoke:
We had it set for Jan 11th. But we talked about moving
the date as there is something going on the same day in
Monticello that seems to have a lot of backing.
We hashed over some dates and Brain is moving his ride
out one week. So after some discussion it looks like Blue
Smoke will be held on Saturday Feb 8th
Christmas Party:
The Christmas party will be on Wed. December 18th.
Steve has it is all set up; It will be held at Broadway

A day of FUN in November
A group of Cruisers and a few of their buddies got
together a couple of Saturdays ago and drove out to
Willmar MN. They went out to visit Harlan’s Salvage.
Harlan has a snowmobile and motorcycle salvage yard.
He has been buying machines and selling parts for over
40 yrs. His business is open to the public just go out in
the yard, find your parts and pay the man.
Just one of the many racks at Harlan’s, this one is full of engine
parts and bottom ends
Afterwards we all went over to Zorbas on Green Lake in
Spicer for some hot food and cold drinks. It was a fun
time.
Where else would you find an NOS Jug for you TX 800 Polaris?
Harlan at one time also ran a snowmobile museum
located in down town Willmar. The museum housed
hundreds of makes and models of machines. Some very
rare “one of a kind” or proto type machines.
Well after years of being a genuine non-profit
Harlan decided to close the museum. He then moved all
his collection pieces out to his salvage yard. Where he
has them tucked away in a ware house (not open to the
public) but with arrangements a person can get in.
Coon Rapids Snow Cruisers November 20, 2013
There were 20 cruisers in attendance
At 7:30 meeting was called to order by Vice President Paul
The Sectaries’ report was read and approved.
The treasure’s report was also read and approved
Bob had a check from the safety training for
$5.00 the check had no information was along with
it so we have to do some checking to see who it
came from and what at it was for.
Old business
Safety training:
A room full of Red steel machines
Harlan loves the snowmobiling community and
he also loves telling stories about machines. The man is
like a walking encyclopedia on old machines,
manufacturers and the people involved.
There were 55 kids in attendance it was a very good
turnout. Brad Johnson from the MN DNR was on hand
and gave a very good presentation covering the laws on
snowmobiling and also shared some doo’s and don’ts of
the sport. He then followed up with a Q & A session.
Bob Bemmels, Paul Hinnekamp, and Scott Lipa
all went over their materials for the group. The night
went very well; we had a very good turnout of volunteer
cruisers on hand. And as it turns out by chance our own
Steve Thielen and DNR Brad Johnson go way back...”
Nov. 20 minutes continued
Paul’s sled:
It was brought and disused about last year at our
snowmobile safety training- during the riding portion;
the sled we were loaned to use broke down. This left us
in a real “pickle” so Paul Hinnenkamp stepped up and let
the club us his sled to finish off the training. Well after
riding in the parking lot a while Paul’s sled started
overheating. Paul ended up doing some major repairs on
his sled as a result. After some discussion a vote was
taken by ballot to see if the club should help with his’
cost. The club voted to give Paul $300.00 toward the
cost of his repairs.
This area right here could be yours. Send Charlie some
stuff to put in the scoop. Buy, Sell, Trade
New Business
Blue Smoke:
As it turns out there is another vintage snowmobile event
going on in Monticello that seems to have a very large
dealer backing, so we decided to make a move. Brian
was able to move his ride weekend out a week and that
opened up Saturday Feb 8th for our show.
Charlie went to the fairgrounds and asked Ray
to change our fairground reservation date from Jan 11th
to Feb. 8th; Ray was able to make the move with no
problems. So now the official date of Blue smoke will
be Feb.8th, 2014
Christmas Party:
The Christmas party will be on Wed. December 18th. It
will be held at Broadway Pizza located at 11822
Aberdeen ST. Blaine (about 118th & Hwy 65). Watch for
an invite in your e-mail box or call Steve Thielen or Paul
Hinnenkamp with any questions. Please bring a
donation (cash or food) for the Anoka County food shelf.
Social hour will be from 6-7
