In Speaking and Listening last week students of Kindergarten Finland had fun making a
holiday web. Each student spoke about their holiday and then passed the wool around
the circle. The web represents all the different activities we got up to in the holidays!
Well done K Finland.

Term 3 Goal Setting in K Finland
Last week students were asked to think of something they wanted to
improve on during the term. Students were able to set meaningful,
realistic and manageable goals to strive to achieve. Good luck on your
learning adventure K Finland.
K Finland has also started using their new racing car learning wall. As
students’ progress in their reading levels and understanding they are
able to move their racing car to the next level. Look at us zooming
along! Keep up the great work!

PSSA Touch Football
On Tuesday, 23 students travelled to Ballina to compete in the Open Touch Football PSSA Knockout. In the first
match of the day, our boys team played Southern Cross K-12 School, going down by just three points, four to one.
Our girls then enjoyed a win against Southern Cross 4-2. Hannah our captain, made some exceptional line breaks
and scored 3 tries. Sierra also scored a try. Some new players including Stevie, Amica and Ava (who are only in
Year Four) played incredibly hard and showed skill and determination.
The boys team then played Ballina Public School, Oliver saved a try, by running a full length of the field to make a
tag. He then saved another two with speed along the wing. Bailey ran in two tries, Michael and Oliver also scored.
APS eventually came up on top, winning 7–2.
In our final match the girls played Ballina Public also. At half time the scores were still locked at nil all, both teams
showing great defence. Ballina Public eventually won 3-1. Hannah scored the try for APS. The girls team are to
be commended for their commitment to training, their admirable sportsmanship and skill.
Congratulations Girls: Bree, Ella, Jasmyn, Amalia, Sieara, Lucy, Elisha, Ava, Amica, Stevie and our captain
Hannah.
Congratulations Boys: Michael, Connor, Bailey, Kyran, Loui, Joe, Tyler, Oliver, Christian, Atzin, Taj and our captain
Jack.
Mrs Dyer and Miss Salt were both extremely proud of how well each and every student represented
Alstonville Public School. Well done everyone involved. Thank you to parents and carers who organised
transport to and from the event and helped with the smooth running of the day.

Why should you always serve unhealthy snacks in a
Back in 2005, Wansink and Cheney performed a wonderfully simple study and found that when snacks are offered
in a large bowl, people take 53% more food (146 extra
calories) and eat 56% (142 calories) more than when offered the same amount of food but in a smaller bowl
(roughly half the size of large bowl).
small bowl?
It is often said that gaining weight is a simple matter of
energy intake being greater than energy we use up. While
this notion is certainly correct, it does not account for all
the factors that drive one to eat more calories than we
need.
Take home message? If you have friends coming over for
a party, or you’re making snacks for yourself or your family, try the following: place the healthy snacks in large
bowls and the unhealthy ones in small bowls. Theoretically, people should eat more of the healthy snacks and less
of the unhealthy ones.
Take for example the size of a bowl from which you eat
your snacks. Could this simple factor play a role in the
number of calories you may eat?
