Torrent Server - Applied Biosystems
Torrent Server
where ions get turned into bases
Torrent Server is the required computing hardware to support the Personal Genome Machine.
Scalability
Simplicity
Speed
Torrent Server supports multiple Personal Genome Machine sequencers depending on
throughput requirements.
Torrent Server is a dedicated, preconfigured computing solution to convert ions into
bases and distribute the data to scientists.
Base calls are delivered within hours.

Torrent Server
A dedicated, preconfigured, computing appliance focused on processing Ion
Torrent data from the Personal Genome Machine sequencer.
Offers primary analysis ending in base calls and web-based data distribution.
Integrated alignment (BFAST) for monitoring coverage rates.

software requirements
Torrent Suite software including the operating system
and required software is preinstalled on the Torrent
Server. Torrent Server is engineered to be an “appliance” server - dedicated to a single task. Torrent
Suite software cannot be installed on a shared server.
The Torrent Suite software is currently not available
through any other distribution except as preinstalled on
Torrent Server hardware.
Torrent Suite leverages open source software including:
Ubuntu® Operating System
PostgreSQL Database
Apache Web service
PHP web scripting language
Python programming language
Sun Grid Engine
network requirements
The PGM™ sequencer is directly connected to the Torrent Server using standard network cable. A single
Torrent Server can physically host up to three Personal
Genome Machines, although performance can vary.
Torrent Server performs best with a controlled external
connection to the Internet.
administration requirements
General sequencing data generation is controlled
through a graphical-based web interface. Suggested,
long term maintenance of the Torrent Server should
be performed by an administrator with command line
Ubuntu® Linux experience. If such a resource is not
available to you, a separate Linux Administrator Service
Contract is available for purchase through the Ion Torrent Web Store.
software developer’s kit (SDK)
Programmatic access to the data on the Torrent Server
using a software development kit (SDK) is planned. For
more information, please contact Ion Torrent Technical
Support.
support & warranty information
Torrent Server hardware is covered by a 12 month warranty provided by Life Technologies. Next business day
on-site support for hardware-related issues is included
in the year warranty. Torrent Suite software is offered
without warranty of any kind. Linux operating system support is not included in the price of the Torrent
Server but separate service contracts are available.
