ABOUT US
Brief History:
The Hope4Life Foundation, Inc. (Hope4Life) is an international non-for-profit organization,
based in Baltimore, MD; its focus is youth leadership development and advocacy. David
Bascome, a professional soccer player and honorary Member of the British Empire, founded the
organization in Bermuda in 2005. Hope4Life strategically partners with the athletic community,
governments, and both public and private organizations to maximize opportunities for youth in
the United States and abroad.
Originally, the organization, in partnership with the government of Bermuda, focused its efforts
on sports mentorship, successfully touching the lives of more than 5,000 youth. In 2011 the
partnership was expanded to include the Center for College & Career Readiness, an international
non-profit based in the US that is dedicated to increased graduation rates and childhood skill
development by promoting best practices among school systems and educators. Together with
the Ministry of Education, the founder of The Hope4life Foundation brought into being one of
Bermuda’s most successful youth outreach programs, “The Bermuda 100.” Over the years,
Hope4Life has gone on to further expand its founder’s legacy of service to include other projects
in the United States and abroad. Today, Hope4Life is working to continue its legacy of service
by focusing its efforts in the City of Baltimore with its goal being to duplicate and exceed the
positive results it has seen with “The Bermuda 100.” It is doing so by expanding its partnership
with the Baltimore Public School System and by eventually establishing “The Baltimore 100.”
Focus:
The organization utilizes proven sports mentorship strategies while targeting the following focus
areas: Cultural Unity, Academic Excellence, and Advocacy for Abused & Neglected Children.
By fostering attitudes of acceptance, educational achievement, and nurturing caring
environments, the organization has successfully helped youth overcome personal challenges and
embrace the many leadership development opportunities made available to them though The
Hope4Life Foundation. The organization has adopted the “Power of One” concept and
emphasizes the belief that one person can make a difference.
Founder and CEO:
David Bascome started his First Division soccer career at the age of 16 with the North Village
Rams in Bermuda. At 20 years of age, he signed his first professional contract with the
Harrisburg Heat of the National Professional Soccer League, USA. After 13 seasons of
professional indoor soccer, Bascome won his first Championship during his 2003-2004
campaign with the Baltimore Blast. After retiring, he was named to the assistant coaching
3
position of the Blast on October 12, 2006, and helped lead the team to the 2008 MISL
Championship in his second season on the coaching staff.
He credits his passion for soccer for saving him from a life of delinquency and under
achievement. He was orphaned as a small child and was the victim of abuse during his formative
years. After overcoming anti-social behaviors with the help of sports, he made a commitment to
give back. Thus, he founded The Hope4Life Foundation, Inc.; this has proven to be among the
most noteworthy of his achievements.

Baltimore Public Schools:
5
The professional soccer team, The Baltimore Blast, have a history of volunteerism in the
Baltimore Public Schools. David Bascome, Baltimore Blast stand out and founder of Hope4Life,
started making school appearances approximately nine years ago. Word, of his infectious
passion and enthusiasm for positive outcomes in youth, spread throughout Baltimore and into
county schools. A number of his presentations were documented through photos and video,
further raising awareness of the impact he was having in school. Today Mr. Bascome is a
popular choice when it comes to motivating and encouraging the youth of Baltimore. Annually,
David volunteers in 15 to 20 schools, giving presentations that leave a resonating message of
hope and encourage students to use their lives to make a difference.
Mr. Bascome recounts a recent experience at the close of a presentation to an assembly at one of
Baltimore’s public schools – “. . . one of the young girls came up to me; she was 13 years old.
She said, Mr. Bascome, I understand your story. It’s encouraging to me. She says I need some
help. Now this young girl never once approached the couseling service that was at her school.
She never told anybody, but she was a young girl who was getting sexually abused by her father.
She reached out. So what we did at that point was walk the young lady straight to one of the
abuse centers. We also are tied in with the police and parole board and we had her father
arrested within 24 hours. So its these things types of things that must happen to ensure that our
young people are moving forward. We must collaborate on ways to help them become critical
thinkers and to encourage them to take the negatives in their lives and turn them into positives. .
. I have fulfilled my greatest dream of being a soccer champion. Now my goal is to pass
something positive on to our young people; that’s why I’m here.”
