Harmony. Chemistry. Balance. Grit. Dexterity.
Determination. Solidarity. Terms that describe a Super
Bowl champion? Well, almost. These are words that define
the core essence of Styx, the multimegamillion-selling rock
band that has forged an indelible legacy both on record
and onstage.
The six men comprising Styx have committed to rocking
the Paradise together with audiences far and wide by
entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows a year, and each one of them is committed to making the next show
better than the last. “Every night, we go on that magic carpet ride together,” observes original bassist Chuck Panozzo, who
joins the band on tour as often as he can. “The thing I always like the most is the immediate response we get when playing
live,” adds guitarist and vocalist James “JY” Young, an integral force of nature in the band since its 1972 inception and the
one who helped steer the band to landing its first recording contract with Wooden Nickel Records. “And this is as good a live
band as there is. Someone once told me, ‘I’ve seen Paul McCartney, I’ve seen the Rolling Stones, I’ve seen U2, I’ve seen the
Police. But my favorite show last year was Styx.’ I like to say we’re the best-kept secret — but perhaps we’re not anymore.”
Notes guitarist, vocalist, and emotional centerpiece Tommy Shaw, “There are so many portals to reach your musical soul,
and our live show is like a religious experience where people come to commune and testify. We have a pretty sophisticated
audience, and we really respect that. We didn’t used to have people who would come see every show, but now they’re coming
back again and again for more. And we owe it to our fans to continually rehearse, prepare, and improve.”
Among the key reasons fans repeatedly return to bask in the live Styx experience is the special energy apparent in each
performance. “Something feels fresh with these guys every time I walk out onstage with them,” admits vocalist and keyboard
shaman Lawrence Gowan. “It’s not lost on anyone that we’re pretty fortunate to be doing this. I look across the stage and
I’m as entertained as much as the audience is as to how strong the band is. There’s not the slightest sliver of doubt that we’re
all going to leave everything we can onstage every night.

FORT MYERS BEACH
Beginning Wednesday, May 4, 2016

Salty Sam’s Marina, 2500 Main Street, Fort Myers Beach, Florida 33931
BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS IN NAPLES BAY
We can’t wait to see your reaction (especially a child’s reaction) when you see dolphins.
Bottlenose Dolphins are naturally playful and curious animals. Often times, they’ll swim
alongside or behind our boat. We have seen them countless times on our cruises, and it’s
clear they enjoy our company too. Sometimes they swim so close it’s almost as if you can
reach out and touch them. Please don’t though. We don’t want to have to fish you out
of the water! Bottlenose Dolphins thrive in fresh AND salt water, which means there is
a great chance of seeing them because the Gordon River and Naples Bay are brackish
which simply means a mixture of fresh & saltwater. Fish are plentiful here (which is why
we fish these waters too) and dolphins feed here regularly. In fact, they will eat between
15 – 30 pounds of fish every day! So they are quite active in our inland estuaries. Want
to learn even more about these playful creatures? Check out our article about the bottlenose dolphin. Upon exiting Naples
Bay, we’ll pass Halderman Creek to the east, Gordon Pass to the left. At this point the eco-tour truly begins because you’ll
see even more wildlife including Great Blue Herons, Blue Herons, Tri-colored Herons, Ospreys, and Bald Eagles. You might
even catch a glimpse of an alligator or a manatee! The Gordon River, itself, is a masterpiece of Florida Wildlife with miles
of life-sustaining estuaries surrounded by beautiful Mangroves. The Naples Explorer ventures even further south, passing
Rookery Bay, arriving at Dollar Bay which sits to the east of Keewaydin, a barrier island that tops the 10,000 Island chain.
Now it’s time to put your toes in the sand! - See more at: http://www.purenaples.com/cruise/eco-cruises/dolphin-watch.
Rates and times of departure Naples Explorer sets sail 7 days a week. Departure times are at 9am or 1pm but they vary
every other day. Call 995-6959 or book your reservation online. Rates: Adults – $55.00 | Children 12 & under – $27.50

I am writing to bring you up to speed with the measures recently implemented this winter and scheduled to occur during the
spring and summer, to enhance your overall product and experience at Renaissance. I will first address the clubhouse. The
restorations being considered for the clubhouse this summer include: new carpet and chairs in the main dining room; new
carpet, paint and chairs in the ladies’ locker room/card room, in addition to new chairs in the men’s card room. These
improvements will provide a fresh and updated look in your clubhouse. Also, new sound systems were installed in the main
dining room and at the turnhouse.
In regard to the golf course, numerous actions have taken place and are scheduled to take place over the spring and summer
to continue the restoration of the turf conditions. Over the last two months after consulting with several agronomical experts,
we have selected one to work with on a regular basis. This relationship will facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of golf
course maintenance going forward. The current and future maintenance practices implemented are designed to return the
golf course to excellent condition and maintain excellent conditions into the foreseeable future. You have likely heard recent
talk of slightly elevated pH levels in our irrigation water and soil samples. Recent samples taken by our new consult have
shown positive results, as soil pH’s have decreased since original samples were taken. Actions taken as of late include: use of
new granular fertilizer blends and ammonium sulfate to enhance the health of turf and reduce pH, use of liquid fertilizers in
our irrigation system including nitric acid additives, which enhance the health of the turf and reduce pH, weekly needle tine
aerifications of stressed areas on the perimeters of greens, multiple pencil tine aerifications of the 1st and 6th greens, change
of divot and topdress sand to a darker sand with organic and compost elements to retain heat and enhance turf quality, spot
aerifications of stressed turf adjacent to cart paths due to repeat cart traffic, tree removal near the 1st, 6th and 10th greens to
increase sunlight to the stressed areas on those greens, this has all culminated with an increased height of cut of tees, fairways
and greens.
The club recently acquired a dedicated sulfuric acid injection system. This system feeds directly into our pump station and
irrigation water. This new system will utilize two different liquid agents targeted at reducing both soil and water pH. This
system will yield irrigation water with the ideal pH of 6.5. This system works in conjunction with our liquid fertilization
program to improve the health and playability of the turf.
The procedures and maintenance that will take place in the spring and summer include: drill and fill deep core aerification
performed on the greens again this June, an application of Curfew, which is a superior liquid soil fumigant for the
management of nematodes on tees and tee slopes, aerification of all fairways, tees and approaches with two additional green
aerifications – an additional large tine aerification in August and a pencil tine aerification in September. The weekly
verticutting and topdressing of greens every Monday will continue through the spring, summer and fall.
While a full golf course renovation is not taking place this summer, a practice tee and short game area renovation will take
place. The practice tee top will be stripped of old turf and several inches of accumulated material under the turf. The tee top
will be increased in size and leveled, the new turf of which type has not been determined at this time, will be sprigged for ideal
and uniform grow-in. The anticipated time for grow in of the new practice tee is approximately 12 weeks, weather permitting.
In conjunction with the turf renovation, the installation of a premium artificial turf tee line will take place at the back of the
range. This artificial turf tee line will also include several stations to use to hit shots toward the short game area. Also related
to the short game area, the oak tree adjacent to the short game area will be removed this summer. The turf in that area, on
and around the green will be replaced. This will provide an improvement to turf conditions and playability in that area.
The tennis and spa facility will undergo improvements this summer as well. The Spa will see updated locker rooms with new
paint and décor. The tennis facility will see a light resurfacing of the tennis courts with new red clay. A laser regrading of the
courts will also be considered this summer.
In conclusion, I am pleased to share this update with you. I am optimistic that these projects and improvements will add
to your club experience now and in the future. If there is anything that I may assist you with, or if you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact me. I wish you all the very best this summer.
Warmest Regards,
David Kent, PGA
General Manager

ON THE PROPERTY.
1. Beverage Station outside main Dining Room Kitchen- left side of the wall
2. Pro Shop
3. Fitness Room at the Spa on the right side
What is an AED? An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a
portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life
threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular
tachycardia in a patient,[1] and is able to treat them through defibrillation,
the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing
the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.
With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is
taught in many first aid, first responder, and basic life support (BLS) level cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes.

Book Club
The Book Club at Renaissance met on April 12th to discuss AMERICAN PAIN by John Temple.
Our members were honored with a unique experience in having “FaceTime” with John, Cheri Schwartz’s
son-in-law. The author answered questions in a thoughtful and charming manner and provided insight
into the circumstances and research leading to his novel. The story details how a storefront
pain clinic in Florida could exploit the legal gray area in which the clinics operated and
unleash American’s deadliest drug epidemic.
The book is highly recommended, is informative and interesting and
received a rating of 4 from the group.
Next meeting is May 10th at the Club and we’ll review AFTER
YOU by JoJo Moyes which is a sequel to the book Me Before You.
New members are welcome. Call for your reservation 239-561-4170.

After acquiring a degree in Fine Art, she went on
to freelance as a graphic artist, which included
advertising, children’s book design, layout, production
and illustration.
With a strong desire to work with her hands, (after
11 years in the advertising field) she chose to change
her career and become a Massage Therapist. Karen
attended The Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy in New York City and graduated
in 1995.
At the Institute she was trained in Swedish massage, Shiatsu & clinic.
Over the last 21 years of practicing massage, Karen has developed quite an eclectic
background of useful techniques, including, but not limited to Swedish, deep tissue,
Cranio-sacral, shiatsu, regional tissue release, positional release, hot stone, aromatherapy and reflexology. Karen’s massages are unique and tailored to each individual client.
No two bodies are the same and each individual may be different from day to day. She
may include more than one or several of the techniques that she has in her tool box
called hands.
Along with massage therapy, Karen has also written, illustrated and published two
children’s books, The Adventures of Countess Pigula:” Her Royal Imagination”, and
“Up, Up and Away!”
Karen currently owns a local soap company, “Dancing Dragonfly Soap Co.” She
manufactures her award winning soap herself and uses only high quality, natural
ingredients. Many of these ingredients come from her yard & garden including fresh
squeezed goat milk from her own goats!! On the weekends, Karen sells her soap at
several of the local farmer’s markets.
