K TIPS
for
planning your
honeymoon
There are many things to consider when
planning what — for many — is the trip of a
lifetime. Here are some tips:
When and where?
The first step for the bride and groom is to
speak openly about topics including budget,
use of leisure time and travel preferences. Is
your travel personality a sun worshiper, adventurer, urban pleasure-seeker or cruiser?
Your budget
Decide on a budget that is comfortable
for the two of you. You may also want to consider a honeymoon registry, where wedding
guests can contribute to your trip rather than
purchase traditional gifts for the home.
The right place
Finding just the right place for your honeymoon or destination wedding can be a
daunting task. There are so many fantastic
locales, from the paradise of Hawaii to the
romance of Paris. Which is the right place?
Choose from the timeless, fairy tale cities
of Europe; awe-inspiring wonders of the U.S.,
the majestic, unhurried Caribbean Islands or
the blissfully soft, white-sand lined shores
of the Mexican Caribbean coast, where allinclusive resorts line the beachfront. A land
vacation offers some of the most scenic locations to get married or celebrate your honeymoon.
Then there are cruise vacations, which
can be great for destination weddings/honeymoons. On an Alaskan cruise, you can
marry amid snowcapped mountains and
breaching humpback whales. On a Mediterranean cruise, you can say your vows on a
Grecian island. Closer to home, the tropical
islands of the Caribbean feel like paradise.
You and your wedding party can depart
from a port in New York or Florida and be
in Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Mexican Yucatan or the Caribbean in a matter of days.
Documentation
Honeymooning outside the country? The
U.S. Department of State requires everyone
traveling to/from the United States to have
a valid passport.
Also remember that the names used for
airline reservations must be identical to

those used on identification documents.
Newly married brides should keep in mind
that identification documents (license and
passport) will most likely still be in your
maiden name.
AAA can assist you in obtaining the necessary documentation for travel.
Foreign currency
If you are traveling internationally, you
may want to get foreign currency before
you leave. It can be helpful or even essential to have currency for cab fares and incidentals once you get to your destination.
Consider insurance
Countless unforeseen events can result in
changes to your vacation plans — you may
want to protect your travel investment with
insurance, especially if it’s a big trip.
Pre-plan activities
Are there special activities that you want
to do on your honeymoon? Talk to your travel consultant; some activities may be prepurchased prior to your arrival, which can
help avert disappointment (some activities
or events sell out).
