Sports, Bars and Entertainment at Lake Norman
Sports, Bars and Entertainment
at Lake Norman
Forget about work and get away from the office to spend the weekend boating,
swimming, golfing, shooting and just having fun. Come to Lake Norman and visit
NASCAR racing shops, comedy clubs and some of the best bars in the area.
3-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Spend the day at a shooting
range, a brewery, and various
NASCAR attractions. Then go
to one of the best local pubs.
Day 2
Go to one of the top five public
golf courses in the state to
show off your golf skills and
then end the day at a popular
sports bar.
Day 3
Enjoy a day out on the water
swimming, boating and Jet
Skiing. Then dock your boat
at one of the Lake’s best
waterfront restaurants featuring
a great tiki bar with live music.
With so much to see and do in the area, we recommend the following 3-day itinerary.
Enjoy all the area has to offer by mixing and matching events to your particular interest.
Be sure to check days and hours of operation for each venue.
Day 1
Start your trip at The Range at Lake Norman. At this high-tech range you can hone
your shooting skills and also participate in extremely realistic high-definition teamtraining simulators where teams are armed with an electronic M4 assault rifle, Glock
handgun or revolver.
Next, visit Michael Waltrip Racing, which houses three NASCAR Nextel Cup teams
and one NASCAR Busch Series team. You can take a tour of the facility and see
operations that are normally kept behind closed doors. You can also see the complete
car assembly and fabrication areas, as well as scheduled pit crew practices.
Then go to Man Made Legends and see cars from the
American Vintage Racing Association created for NASCAR
enthusiasts to see the cars from “NASCAR of Yesteryear.”
You can also browse the showroom, which features vintage
cars from both the Cup and Busch series.
Enjoy a beer tasting at the local brewery, Ass Clown
Brewing Company, and try some great seasonal beers.
Or you can go to Davidson Beverage Company and
enjoy the tasting bar and six rotating taps.
End your day at Irish Cue, one of the area’s most popular
pubs. You can play pool on any of eight pool tables, play
video games, watch sports on high-definition televisions,
and indulge in popular menu items.
Day 2
Spend the day at Birkdale Golf Club, voted one of the top five public golf courses
in North Carolina. This challenging 7,013 yard, par 72 course made up of Bermuda
fairways and Crenshaw bent grass greens offers a true test of golf skills. Either pick up a
bucket of balls for the driving range or play all 18 holes.
Afterward, go to Taco Mac. Even though it deceivingly sounds like a Mexican
restaurant, it is actually one of the area’s best sports bars. This is a great place to drink
beer, watch sports, and enjoy the signature chicken wings.
Then visit Joe Gibbs Racing to learn about the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR team
with drivers Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano. You can also check out the
souvenir store to buy some NASCAR merchandise.
Finally, end your day at any of the great restaurants or bars in Huntersville. You can go
to Birkdale Village and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and various sports bars, such as
Fox & Hound and Hickory Tavern.
Day 3
Spend a full day out on the lake where you’ll be sure to have a good time on a rented
Jet Ski, pontoon boat, skiff boat or deck boat from Kings Point Morningstar Marina.
For lunch, we suggest going to The Rusty Rudder, a great waterfront restaurant. This
local favorite is the perfect place to dock your boat, enjoy a delicious meal, and spend
some laidback time listening to live music at the tiki bar.
