A Message from Fr. Frank
Dear Friends and Benefactors:
It is hard to believe that over 35 years of
ministry is coming to a close. So much has
happened, so many lives changed and transformed. Every day I marvel at the Providence
of God at work and the miracle of love touching people’s souls.
We celebrated our first Candle Light Christmas
Eve Mass in the Chapel of St. Francis. Over 300
people blessed us that evening at Little Portion
SMM, LCSW-R, ACSW, DCSW
Executive Director-Founder/CEO Friary-our new campus for Hope Academy in
Mt. Sinai.
Hope House Ministries
Fr. Francis
Pizzarelli,
“I am further
inspired and
humbled by the
young people
I live with, who
every day teach
me profound
lessons in
compassion,
forgiveness and
unconditional
love.”
The transition to the friary has been a blessing
but not without some minor detours. The friary
is over 86 years old, and is tired and wornbut the men in our community who live on
campus, our volunteers and King Quality have
been extraordinary.
Brothers Bread is a big hit. Our bakery is open
and running. Fresh bread is available every
Friday morning from 7 AM until there is no
more bread. It is a privilege to continue the
bakery tradition in the spirit of the Brothers of
St. Francis who founded the friary and bakery
more than 80 years ago.
All of our other entities with extraordinary staff
are operating at maximum capacity, touching countless lives every day. Their power of
example and commitment to ministry is inspirational.
God has blessed me with the vision of Hope
House Ministries, but more importantly, he has
called countless, gifted human beings to carry
out our mission every day. They do that generously and courageously with limitless compassion and love. I feel honored to work with
them. They are the spirit, the texture, the fiber,
and heart and soul of Hope House Ministries.
My faith continues to empower me to stay the
course despite all the obstacles that come my
way. I am further inspired and humbled by the
young people I live with, who every day teach
me profound lessons in compassion, forgiveness and unconditional love.
This year, our Annual Endowment Event on
Thursday, March 10, 2016 is honoring Michael
VanDenburg, an extraordinary, successful
young businessman from our larger community. Mike has been a tremendous voice of support and an active fundraiser for our ministry
for more than 15 years.
However, what sets him apart and makes him
an excellent role model is not his material
generosity, but rather his character and integrity. He does not just talk the talk; he walks
the walk! He was not born into privilege with
a silver spoon in his mouth. He has worked
extremely hard for everything he has and has
been most generous to others along the way.
Moved by the tragedy in Sri Lanka-seeing
countless children left homeless and parentless, Mike and his partner, Scott Colletti, were
determined to make a difference and they did.
They built an orphanage for the children who
were left homeless after the tsunami.
I am profoundly grateful to Mike and countless
others who have blessed this ministry with
their time, talent and treasure these past 35
years. I pray that God will continue to bless our
ministry as we continue to give voice to the
voiceless and speak out and work on behalf of
human rights and social justice for all.

32nd Annual
Celebration of Hope A HUGE SUCCESS!!
Hope House Ministries was once again
blessed with a full house at our 32nd Annual
Celebration of Hope, held on November 30th,
2015, at the grand Villa Lombardi’s Catering
Hall in Holbrook. Celebrating our 35th year
of ministry, the event raised an astounding
$288,000!!
Over 750 of Hope House’s dedicated supporters celebrated together to kick off the
holiday season in a most jubilant way. It
began with the continued generosity of the
Lombardi family who, as for the past
twenty-one years, donated the entire catering
package, presenting a truly decadent buffet
and an abundance of luscious desserts. As
always, their highly professional staff did an
exceptional job in creating an extraordinary
and memorable event, from the beautifully
decorated hall to the most attentive detail
Executive Board member Rich LoNigro auctions off a “Fr. Frank” selfie toaster.
in serving the party guests. The endearing
young men of Hope House serenaded the crowd with holiday songs, and the Naked Truth Band gave a truly engaging
performance.
Our guests were also given the opportunity to participate in Silent, Live & “Buy Chance” Auctions, which offered over 100
gift items and raised $30,000! Long Island’s businesses and devoted Hope House supporters were extremely generous,
allowing us to offer a diverse and irresistible selection of gifts (see our list of sponsors).
Congratulations and thank you to all the devoted, hard-working volunteers, auction, journal and event sponsors, board
members and our enthusiastic guests, who made this event a wonderful success!

Reception
Lively applause filled the air as The New York Tenors gave a magical performance at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, December 10th, to
benefit Hope House Ministries. The New York Tenors are Daniel
Rodriguez, the “Latino” New York Tenor; Christopher Macchio,
the “Italian” New York Tenor; and Andy Cooney, the “Irish” New
York Tenor. Together they combine the artistry of three New York
Tenors who alone are superb, but together provide an overwhelming, “can’t miss” showcase of some of the world’s greatest vocalists
and repertoire.

Adding to the fun and festiveness, joining them on stage were
actor/comedian Jim Labriola, the Hibernian Festival Singers, and
The Big Apple Orchestra, with Musical Director Aaron Gandy. All
gave stunning performances!

Samantha Palazzolo offered her time and talent to organize a Walk to raise money and awareness
for people in recovery. Family and friends gathered at Jones Beach on Saturday, October 17th,
and generously collected $1,400 to benefit Hope House Ministries. Accompanying the donation
was a note from Samantha to “Everyone at Hope House, Thank you for all that you do. It truly
is amazing to see how many lives you help day in and day out.” Samantha plans on doing this
event again in 2016. Thank you, Samantha, for your kindness and caring and thank you to all
who supported Samantha in her efforts.
HOPE HOUSE MINISTRIES
Wishes are Granted!
Shannon Harrington (in photo) and Briana Rodriguez of JFK Middle
School in Port Jeff Station collected items for Hope House Ministries’
wish list for a community service project for Mrs. Friedman’s 7th grade
English class. They collected 4 bags of items from teachers and classmates. They encouraged participation of classmates by offering a $20
gift card (each girl paid $10) to one random classmate who donated.
We are grateful for everyone’s kindness and caring.
URS CAPITAL & ELITE
APARTMENT COACHING
Raises $7,680 to benefit
Hope House Ministries
4
An important part of the success of our ministry is the generosity
of individuals and businesses who, in sharing our mission, have
selflessly offered their volunteer and monetary assistance. Chris
Urso, managing partner of URS Capital Partners and Elite Apartment
Coaching, and his dedicated colleagues chose Hope House
Ministries as their focus this past holiday season. Reaching out to
family, friends and business contacts, they organized a Hope House
“Wish List” drive, collecting food, paper goods, and office supplies.
In addition to these necessities, they also collected $7,680 in donations. Rebecca Windsor graciously delivered the gifts to Hope House
Ministries. We truly appreciate the generosity of all who coordinated
and supported this effort. Thank you so much!

The 16th Annual Montauk We Hope
Bike Tour Raised over $40,000!
Sadly and unexpectedly, the 16th Annual Montauk We Hope Bike Tour was suddenly cancelled. Despite all the hard work and planning that had been done already, a last minute
permitting issue caused the cancellation of this highly anticipated and
beloved event.
In a show of great support and appreciation for all that the TRITEC employees have done over the years and for
the dedicated work of Hope House
Ministries, the majority of participants and benefactors asked that the
organization keep the funds they had
donated so that Hope House Ministries
would still receive a substantial gift.

17th Annual
“Montauk We Hope”
Bike Tour
Saturday,
September 10, 2016
The Montauk We Hope Bike Tour was
created in 2000 by TRITEC Real Estate
Company as a way to improve the
health and well-being of its employees
while making a positive contribution to
the local community. Inspired by the support and commitment of the entire TRITEC staff,
Montauk We Hope officially became a New York State 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 2002.
Over the past number of years, Hope House Ministries has been very fortunate to receive
the support from events such as the Montauk We Hope Bike Tour. We would like to
extend our thanks once again to all who supported this event!
The TRITEC staff is already hard at work planning the 17th Annual Montauk We Hope
Bike Tour. They are awaiting a final permit confirmation; in the meantime, we urge you
to put the planned date on your calendar: Saturday, September 10, 2016. We look forward to seeing you then!
Secret Santa 2015
A special thank you to all of those who
gave a little extra this past
holiday season while
supporting the Secret
Santa Drive. We raised
over $35,600 to
support the outreach programs
of our ministry!
Thanks for spreading the holiday cheer
to so many in need!
The 19th Annual
Breakfast Club Event
Once again, the Hope House Ministries Breakfast
Club Committee will be hosting The Breakfast
Club Event. Over the past eighteen years this
important event has attracted Long Island
business people and philanthropists who have
generously contributed over $3,467,350 to
benefit Hope House Ministries! For information
on the upcoming event at the Meadowbrook
Club in Jericho on Tuesday, June 14, please call

Father Frank’s Message- cont’d. from pg. 1
My heart continues to break every day
because of the growing number of
young people dying senselessly from
the heroin epidemic. This epidemic is
out of control. It is clearly a national
health crisis. At a community meeting
I recently attended, Senator Ken
LaValle said that the heroin epidemic would be a priority issue to be
addressed by the Senate and the
Assembly this year. Help the Senator
and his colleagues not to forget that
commitment! Storm his office with
letters and emails!
Thank you for making such a profound difference in our ministry and
in my life. Be assured of my continued
prayers at our Eucharist for you and
your families.
Forever grateful,
Father Francis Pizzarelli,

“Desire is the key to motivation, but
it’s determination and commitment
to an unrelenting pursuit of your
goal - a commitment to excellence
- that will enable you to attain the
success you seek.” –Mario Andretti.
Michael VanDenburg is a testament to
such words. A native Long Islander,
Michael’s dreams for success never
came with a silver spoon. Michael’s
success story is built through hard
work and determination. Recognizing
Michael VanDenburg as a pre-teen that the first step
in climbing a mountain starts at
the bottom, has embedded early
character-building for his entrepreneurial spirit and continues
to drive Michael today. Rarely do self-made men achieve success
without experiencing some pitfalls in their journey. At age 20, with
no fondness for formal education, but strong desires to make his
success story, Michael started his own business with only the capital
saved from the hourly jobs of his teens. Despite the passion for
greatness, that company failed. While that chapter was complete,
the next chapter would set the stage. Michael began a new career
– a commission only salesperson with Milburn Flooring. With the
same passion and work ethic, his success was overwhelming which
earned Michael a partnership in the family owned and operated
business, started in 1959. Michael and his business partner, Scott
Colletti, a third generation owner, have grown together and their
partnership has produced three other businesses started from the
ground up. Through Milburn Flooring, Michael and Scott have
since added Renu Contracting, Sunrise Door Solutions and soon
will be opening their second That Meetball Place restaurant.
The character of a self-made man speaks volumes, especially
as is the case with Michael in never forgetting the road traveled.
The Tsunami of 2004 deeply affected all as we watched the poor
children in Sri Lanka homeless and parentless. Michael was quick
to react, along with Scott. Within 45 days, contacts were made in
Sri Lanka and through their efforts had raised enough money to
build a brand new orphanage. Michael’s efforts are altruistic and
will continue to impact those in need. He has been active in many
charitable causes, including: The Marty Lyons Foundation, 2012
recipient of the Man of the Year award; The A.M.T. Children of
Hope Foundation, recognized his efforts in 2013; and Hope House
Ministries, a devoted supporter for over fifteen years and is the
driving force behind the ministry’s Annual Golf Classic.

In Memory of Anthony Michael Forte
To honor the memory of her son
Anthony Michael Forte, who died
of a heroin overdose in May,
2015, Anthony’s mother, Debbie
Carpinone, started Anthony’s
Angels, an organization which raises
money towards scholarships and
also helps people who may be in
need of info and resources for recovery. Inasmuch, Debbie hosted a
fundraiser at the VFW Hall in Rocky
Point on Saturday, October 10th.
Offering live music, raffles and specialty desserts, with the generosity of
friends and family, Debbie collected
funds for a scholarship in Anthony’s
name to help another youth who
may be struggling. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds, $375, was
collected to benefit Hope House Ministries. Debbie explains, “We need to
come together as a community to raise awareness of this epidemic that is
taking a hold of our children!”
