SUMMER WINES
Summer calls for an entirely different style of wine than the rest of the year. Instead of the heavy,
powerful wines that accompany the cuisine of cooler weather, try something light and refreshing.
This does not preclude red wines either. We’ve found several that quaff a thirst and match lighter
foods too.
Summertime is also a great time of the year to experiment. Throw off the Cabernet and Chardonnay
shackles. Wine lovers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but ponderous over-oaked white
wine. By golly, try a cool refreshing Riesling. How about a crisp Sauvignon Blanc from California or
New Zealand? Amaze your friends with a dry Rosé. (See page 4). There are so many styles of wine
out there it seems a shame to concentrate on one or two types, no matter how delicious they are.
Green’s has selected 16 wines made from 11 different grape varieties made to enjoy during the hot
weather. All were picked for their ability to refresh and entertain.

-THE ROSÉ EXPERTS
THE 2015 VINTAGE HAS ARRIVED!
“Few wines are as easy-drinking, refreshing or as versatile as rosé. With the warmer days of summer…
it is time to start stocking up on these flavorful sippers, which are best served well-chilled to allow
their subtle fruit and spice flavors to shine through. The best are also zesty enough to match well
with lighter fare, such as grilled poultry or seafood.”
The Wine Spectator
“There’s nothing better on a sultry day than a wonderful bottle of dry rosé.”
Robert Parker
ROSÉ SEASON HAS BEGUN!
Over a decade ago, before Rosé became popular again,
had introduced our customers
to the joys of drinking dry Rosé. It is the perfect summertime wine. Cool and refreshing, and usually
moderately priced, Rosé is meant to be consumed without pretense. It is “just” a fun wine that is
delicious by itself or with almost any food.

DOMESTIC
Wolffer Estate ‘Summer
in a Bottle’ Rosé -2015
Green’s Cash Sale Price: $18.99
The color of sunshine, this wine gives
juicy aromas of summer fruit—ripe
peach, apricot and cantaloupe—
along with honeysuckle and freshly
cut hay. The mouth-feel is beautifully
balanced. After the ripe lush fruit,
including those on the nose plus
lychee, come wonderful layers of acidity, yeasty lees notes
and mouth-filling texture.”
Elizabeth Spencer Mendocino
Rosé of Grenache-2015
Green’s Cash Price: $15.99
“Beautiful pink color with a brilliant clarity. This wine is a
delight to pour and share. Refreshing, bright, and complex.
The nose is bold with crushed strawberry, fresh red raspberry
and lingering aromas of citrus zest and fresh cut flowers.
Excellent acidity that cuts through the red grapefruit and
tropical flavors and lends a long, clean finish. Perfect alone,
with plenty of weight to pair compellingly with a variety of
foods. The finish is bright and full of lingering minerality.”

garrigue and soil intensity can be found throughout this dry

Cuvee Royale
Tavel Rosé-2015
Green’s Cash Sale Price:
$14.99
The terroir of the vineyard
of this wine is entirely
“galéts roules,” the same
large smooth pebbles
found in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. These stones reflect the
heat toward the fruit during the day, and retain, and slowly
release, heat throughout the night. The grapes get unusually
ripe here. Made from Grenache (50%), Clairette (11%),
Cinsault (20%), Picpoul and Bourboulenc (10%) , Carignan
and Syrah (9%), this Tavel is rich and powerful. Possesses
a deep pink color and ripe cherries on the bouquet, this
dry, rich, ripe red fruit flavored wine is one of the most
concentrated Rosés we carry. If Chateauneuf-du-Pape
made a Rosé, this is what it would taste like.

Victor Costieres de Nimes Rosé-2015
Green’s Cash Sale Price: $10.99
What a beautiful Rosé! It’s hard for me to select a favorite
of this group as I liked them all, but if I had to point out
just one it would be this wine. It’s got everything; an elegant
light to medium pink color, a red fruit and watermelon-like
aroma, and a flavor that is the perfect balance between
acidity and fruit. It is from Costieres de Nimes, just west of
Provence in the southern Rhone Valley.

This is the fourth year we’ve been able to source this
wine and it has become one of our customers’ favorite
Rosés. Made from four grape varieties, 35% Sciaccarellu,
30% Merlot, 25% Grenache, and 10% Cinsault, the major
component, Sciaccarellu, is a native grape variety of the
island. Close in appearance to the Pinot Noir grape, the
wine from this grape displays an aroma similar to Pinot as
well.
