olid upper and lower mounts and the
race-proven Sport Master gearcase enable
the 250 Sport XS to power single engine,
lightweight hulls to speeds in excess of 85 mph.
• A unique two-stage, direct-injection system
atomizes fuel into small, uniform particles,
resulting in complete and instantaneous
combustion.
• The fuel/air mixture is injected into the
combustion chamber at 95 psi (15 psi higher
fuel/air differential than standard DFI or
OptiMax product) for enhanced high-RPM
running quality.
• Electronic multipoint lubrication system
delivers precise amounts of oil where and
when it’s needed.
• The Sport Master gearcase, featuring a
satin-finished housing enhanced by a raceproven torpedo shape featuring less frontal
area, reduces drag and provides increased
water flow.

OUTBOARD GEARCASES
MASTER GEARCASES
No matter what kind of craft you captain, Mercury Racing has the proper gearcase for your application.
The Sport Master gearcase offers heavy-duty durability for boats that travel in excess of 85 mph,
with low-water pick-ups and a crescent leading-edge design that maximizes efficiency and speed. The
Torque Master gearcase is designed for heavier boats capable of hitting the 85 mph mark and features a
heavy-duty 19-spline stainless steel propshaft. The Fleet Master is intended for center- console offshore
applications and offers a heavy-duty offshore-bearing carrier, plus a double shot-peened pinion gear. And
did we mention the newly designed gearcase to handle the 350 SCi’s high torque and power output? Our
engineers developed a new hydrodynamic shape and size to accommodate the larger diameter, net-forged,
straight-bevel gears; heavy-duty 1-1/4" diameter propeller shaft; and billet aluminum bearing carrier.

Heavy-Duty 5.44" - 1.75:1
• Designed to run on boats capable
of speeds in excess of 85 mph.
• Designed for boats with heavier loads
and capable of speeds up to 85 mph.
• Operates at transom heights of
27" to 30" (685 mm to 762 mm).
• Designed to operate at 25" to 27"
(635 mm to 685 mm).
• Dual water pick-ups, mounted on the
nose of the torpedo and strut enhance
water flow and cooling.
• F
eatures a heavy-duty one-piece
stainless steel propshaft and threepiece friction-welded stainless steel
driveshaft for added durability.
• F
eatures dual water pick-ups for
improved cooling and reduced ingestion
of weeds or debris.
The Heavy-Duty 5.44" - 1.75: 1 gearcase
was designed specifically to handle the
Verado 350 SCi’s high power and torque
output. The larger diameter, net-forged,
straight-bevel gears and heavy-duty
1-1/4" diameter propeller shaft ensure
maximum reliability, while efficiently
transferring every bit of horsepower to
the water.
• Low-water pick-ups.
• Right-hand and left-hand rotation
available.
• Right-hand rotating Sport Master has
a built-in torque tab to reduce steering
torque.
Available on: OptiMax 300XS,
OptiMax 250 Sport XS
• H
eavy-duty 19-spline stainless steel
propshaft and a painted housing for
improved corrosion resistance.
Available on: OptiMax 300XS
• Designed from the Torque Master
gear case for enhanced durability
and reliability, but with the torque tab
removed to allow a common housing
in RH and LH rotation.

you quickly determine the difference
between actual and theoretical travel
resulting from a necessary propeller
blade angle of attack.
The origin of power is with the engine, but the propeller is where it gets unleashed. Absolutely
integral in determining your boat’s handling, ride, comfort, speed, acceleration, engine life, fuel economy,
and more, the propeller is the key to what your boat can achieve. Whether it’s a faster hole-shot or outright

BRAVO I ® VERADO
Mercury Racing perfected the science behind propeller design, we’ve mastered the art of customization, as
well. Pitch, rake angle, diameter, blade configuration … they’re all equal parts in an ever-changing equation.
But no matter what your needs, the answer is always the same: prop perfection. And Mercury Racing

x-haust Noise reducer
Zero Effort® Controls
smartcraft
X-haust Noise Reducer is the only fully integrated
stern drive engine exhaust noise reduction system
to meet stringent European Union Recreational Craft
Directive (RCD) noise regulations. X-haust features
a custom Y-pipe which combines the two banks of
exhaust from each engine into a single exhaust tube.
The single tube exhaust outlet per engine provides
the transom space needed for the transom-mounted
X-haust muffler.
Mercury Racing Zero Effort Controls feature a canted
handle design that really fits the hand. Throttles have
ball and spring detents which provide tactile feel and
resist “creep.” Shift levers provide a comfortable
“throw” into and out of gear, giving sport boaters
complete control of their boat. The shorter shift lever
allows captains to know, by instinct, which function
they command. The SmartCraft Digital Throttle and
Shift (DTS) system technology brings precise throttle
and shift response to race-proven Mercury Racing
Zero Effort Controls.
The next wave in boating, SmartCraft Integrated Marine Technology monitors
a variety of vital engine functions including fuel flow, fuel range, fuel used, and
RPM, along with water depth, trim angle, water pressure, and battery voltage. Boat
functions monitored include fuel tank levels, and water and waste tank levels.
X-haust is available in two configurations. Stage 2, which includes a transom-mounted
muffler, is capable of compliance with the EU RCD. Stage 1, designed to satisfy
most noise regulations outside of the EU, eliminates the transom-mounted muffler.
The location of the exhaust outlets, underwater when off-plane and near the water
surface when operating on-plane, is the same for both configurations. Back pressure
is minimal, resulting in insignificant power loss. An integrated idle relief tube routes
some exhaust through the boat above the waterline, providing a necessary vacuum
break and a little rumble when operating off-plane.
K-Plane ® Trim Tabs
Mercury Racing K-Planes are the epitome of trim tab
development, durability, and performance. Originally
designed to endure the rigors of offshore racing,
K-Planes help get boats up on plane faster and keep
them level. Selected models of the legendary trim
tabs have been updated for enhanced durability,
corrosion resistance, and SmartCraft compatibility.
t.e.a.m.
The Mercury Racing Total Engine Application Management (T.E.A.M.) initiative is a
factory-approved integration process for new Mercury Racing marine propulsion
systems. The standardized process requires training of the entire OEM boat builder
and dealer staff involved with the installation of the new Mercury Racing propulsion
system. The program specifies qualified components to be used with the new product
along with factory-approved product specifications.
Zero Effort® Digital Controls
Utilizing the Propulsion Control Module (PCM) microprocessor — the brain behind the engine’s brawn — we
achieved a seamless integration for optimal control.
From the SmartCraft Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS)
to the Engine Guardian® System, Mercury Racing’s
“smart” technology presents a worry-free, intuitive
on-water experience.
DTS
The SmartCraft® Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) System was designed to bring digital
precision to engine throttle and shift. By offering unmatched, smooth shifting and
lightning-fast throttle response, the DTS System provides effortless control, as well as
proven and reliable performance every time. Once you try a Mercury DTS System, you
won't want to use anything else.
