Intentional Faith Development Radical Hospitality Extravagant
FIVE FRUITFUL PRACTICES We have committed to strengthening our life and mission together through a focus on five specific, Spirit-led practices: Radical Hospitality; Passionate Worship; Intentional Faith Development; Risk-Taking Mission and Service; and Extravagant Generosity.
As we exercise these qualities of the Christian life together, we will grow personally and as a congregation in fulfilling the will of God: to live lives that are dedicated to Christ and committed to serving God.

Feb. 23-6:30 p.m.-Carol Smith Circle of Joy will meet at
JoAnn Penrod’s home at One Park Place.
February is “HELP THE HELP OFFICE” Month
The Help Office, located at 1316 W. 4th Street in Owensboro, is a
Christian agency started by a group of churches (including Settle Memorial) in 1971. Its mission is to provide emergency assistance to the
poor and to prevent duplication of services.
To meet these needs the Help Office has a director (Woody Woodward), and manager (Janet Zachary), who supervise a staff of over 80
volunteers. Volunteers interview clients to help determine their specific needs. A referral may be made to another agency or assistance
given directly. Funding is made possible through the generous donations of individuals, businesses, and churches throughout Owensboro.
No Government or United Ways funds are used.

SAVE THE DATE-MARCH 29 CONCERT HERE!
Our next Good Samaritan Concert will be extra amazing, because we
not only have the Owensboro Symphony Chamber Orchestra joining
us, but a 175-voice choir as well! Our choir will join with choirs from
First Baptist, Third Baptist, First Christian, First Presbyterian, and
First United Methodist in Henderson. They will sing beautiful music
from “How Great Thou Art,” to Brahms “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place,” to a Handel Messiah movement, to a movement from Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Diane Earle will play a movement of a Mozart piano concerto, Marc Zyla a movement from a Mozart French horn
concerto, and the orchestra will play some wonderful music as well.
Nicholas Palmer will conduct. The free-will offering from the concert
will go to the Help Office, Boulware Mission, St. Benedict’s Shelter,
and our Good Samaritan Fund. Save the date-March 29, at 4pm, in
the Sanctuary. You won’t want to miss this breathtaking concert!

A Rocky Road: Joshua 4:21-24
In the Bible, journeys are sometimes marked with rocks as a way to show where something important has happened
- to mark the way across a difficult path - to say “We were here. We endured.” Hikers often leave behind a rock
cairn to mark the path for fellow hikers and at the peak of a mountain to celebrate a moment of achieving the summit.
Consider writing a word on the rock you received this morning—a word about your spiritual journey, something you
need from God, your struggles, your questions, your triumphs, your joy. What do you need to put on the altar? Do
you need to put down a worry or concern? Perhaps the rock represents a new direction or a new thing God is doing
in your life. Hold the rock this Lent as a sign of something God wants to do in your life during Lent.

Settle Memorial UMC Ministry Internships
Your generous giving has made possible the funding of four internships this Spring Semester. All
four interns will share in a wide range of leadership experiences including worship in our traditional
services, SHOUT and Maceo UMC. Thank you for your sacrificial gifts which makes an investment in young adult leaders possible.
Abby Meyer
Abby Meyer is the daughter of Bob and
Alecia Meyer. She leads our Middle
School on Wednesday nights. A student
at Western, she is transferring to an out
of state University in the fall to pursue
her love for dance, theater, and music.
Abby teaches dance at Foust and Cravens Elementary Schools and Special
Needs at OHS. She also works at the
Wheatgrass Juice Bar. She says, “I love
working with middle schoolers because they are such a light
and they spread so much love.
Ariel Ramsey
Ariel Ramsey is from Rockport, and is also
a sophomore vocal performance major at
Kentucky Wesleyan College. She also has
much vocal, choral, and musical theatre
experience. Through this internship, Ariel
hopes to build her teaching and directing
experiences, team-building, leadership, and
organizational skills. You will also be
hearing Ariel singing with the choir and
some solos in our services, as well as ringing handbells with
the handbell choir.
Mary Lewe
Mary Lewe, daughter of Dr
Robert and Robin Lewe, is a
freshman at KWC. She plays
keyboard and sings with the
Shout! Band, and plays other
instruments, as well, including the clarinet. Mary plays
many kinds of music: Christian, rock, pop, and classical.
On playing with the band, she says that “it is definitely fulfilling, I’m having a great time.” She also
has a love for animals, having cats, a dog, and a
rabbit herself.
Nichole Hannah
Nicole Hannah heralds
from South Carolina and is
a sophomore vocal performance music major at
Kentucky Wesleyan College. She has much choral
and vocal experience, and
hopes to gain confidence and leadership skills, and
will be singing solos and with the choir. Nicole is
also a good organizer and choir librarian. She is
learning handbells for the first time.
CONFIRMATION 2015
All who are in 6th grade or older are invited to participate in Confirmation Classes, that begin today. Classes
will include a Saturday at Camp Loucon. We will begin with lunch, at noon, for the confirmands (those going
through confirmation) and their families today. If interested, contact Greg Rose at 270-993-7764 or
[email protected]. It will be huge fun and we are going to learn to walk closely with Jesus.
