Replacing the CMOS Battery in the Series B and C Touch
Panel PC

Introduction
This Tech Note describes the steps necessary to replace the CMOS battery in Series B and C
Touch Panel PCs.
Conversion of the unit may be simplified if either the entire unit or just the PC box is removed.
Further work can then be performed on a bench.
Replacing the CMOS Battery
The Battery Replacement Kit includes the following items:
Replacement battery
Plastic Zip Tie

ZIP TIE
Note: For Series B computers, the battery and connectors are available on request for units
under warranty. The part number is WIC-CMOS.
1. Shut down Windows then disconnect power to the unit (Figure 2 below). To remove the
PC box from the bezel simply follow the illustrated instructions on the box.

2. Remove the PC box side cover by unscrewing the two screws shown below, then pulling
from the side closest to the display (Figures 3a and 3b below).

3. Open the Compact Flash card slot using the thumb screw on the door (Figure 4 below).

4. Remove the IDE ribbon cable by pushing the tabs outward (Figure 5 below).

5. Remove the existing PC box back cover (Figures 6a and 6b below). There are a total of
seven screws. Four on the back and three on the top.

6. Cut the plastic zip tie holding the existing battery in place (Figure 7 below).

7. Remove the battery from the unit by unplugging the connector from the board (Figure 8
below).

Plug the replacement battery into the battery slot.
Strap the battery to the unit using the replacement zip tie.
Reassemble the unit.
Plug a keyboard into the unit and power it up. You must set the date and time in the
BIOS so hit F2 when prompted.
12. Set the correct date and time.
13. Then press F10 to save and exit the BIOS configuration.
Battery Replacement for Series C
The CMOS battery for Series C Panels can be accessed by opening the side door fastened with
a thumb-screw. The round battery is shown in Figure 9 (below).

Please note that this battery is generic (CR2032) and may be available locally as well. The
battery specifications are on a sticker behind the side door.
After powering down the unit and replacing the battery, follow Steps 11-13 above to set Date
and Time.
