STYLE SECRETS
This month hair and make-up artist
Billy Orr – who regularly works with
celebrities including Lady Gaga,
Lucy Kennedy, Natasha Bedingfield
and The Saturdays – tells us what
trends to watch out for this spring
Beauty this season is all about modern glamour – the
focus is on healthy, fresh, glowing skin with occasional
injections of drama. The three trends to tap into this
season are ‘Graphic Eyes’, the ‘New Pretty’ and ‘Glow
Natural’ which have been seen on the recent runway
shows of New York, Paris and Milan. At Miu Miu eyelids
were painted black while at Gucci, girls were radiating
with electric turquoise and the models at Elie Saab were
shimmering and flushed with pink.
GLOW NATURAL
Natural was the buzzword this season at
Prada and Calvin Klein but natural
doesn’t mean bare faced. It’s more
about healthy glows with sculpted and
shimmering cheek bones. Think fresh and
luminous as opposed to bare-faced chic.
Use neutral shades of biscuit, taupe and
mushroom for the eyes. Highlight the
cheekbones, inner corners of the eye
and brow bone for a glowing
complexion. Dab a hint of pink, peach or
raspberry on the lips. Think JLo or
Beyonce for this look.
FOR THIS LOOK WE RECOMMEND:
L’Oréal Glow Minerals, Illuminating Glow
Powder, €11.99 – dust on your cheeks and
temple or apply all over your foundation for a
glowing complexion.
Nars Multiple Duo, Orgasm & South Beach,
€49.50 – one side is peachy pink and the other
is apricot with shimmer. They’ll keep you looking
fresh and youthful. This combo is a cult product
that no make-up bag should be without this
spring/summer. It can also be used on the
eyelids and lips.
Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lipstick, no 47, €11.99
– apply using your finger for
rosebud lips.
L’Oréal True Match
Foundation, €14.05 – for a
flawless finish, apply using a
blusher brush or foundation
brush and buff your skin in
gentle circular motions.
Total cost: €87.53

spring trends
GRAPHIC EYES
Forget last season’s 50s flicks, the new take on
eyes is graphic, minimal and inspired by 70s
sirens like Brigitte Bardot. Take inspiration from
Japanese Geisha girls with top and bottom liner
joining at the inner and outer corner of the eyes.
Celebrities like Girls Aloud, The Saturdays and
Lady Gaga regularly work this trend. Use a black
kohl pencil on the inner rim to further accentuate
the dramatic feline shape. Dab a pale shimmer
on the lid or paint the whole lid in liner. Match
with flawless, luminous skin and pretty, flushedpink cheeks and icy lips. Check out the
spring/summer YSL catwalk for inspiration.

Nivea Lipcare, €3.26 – go for an understated lip
with a hint of frosted sheen.
MAC Fluidline, Blacktrack, €17 – long-lasting
cream eyeliner which can double as a dramatic
cream eyeshadow – perfect for smudging.
MAC Angled Brow Brush, €20.50 – not just for brows,
it’s great for applying eyeliner and lipstick and will
help you achieve a flawless, feline flick.
Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper, €20.50 – this will
groom your brows and help you get the perfect arch.
Total cost: €61.26
THE NEW PRETTY
This look is very soft and romantic
as seen on the runways at Louise
Goldin and Elie Saab – eyes are
painted in icy blues, frosty pinks
and pearly lilacs. Skin is kept
clean with a hint of shimmer while
pink and peach is key for cheeks.
Lips are stained with frosty pinks
and raspberry for a fresh and
youthful pout. On the runway
models looked like they had just
come in from a summer shower.
Forget last season’s matt-stained
lips – this spring/summer it’s more
about enhancing your natural lip
colour. And gloss is most definitely
back. Keep it simple with clear or
pale pink. Check out Katie
Holmes’ make-up and style of late,
she worked this look on the red
carpet recently as did Sophie Ellis
Bextor, she’s the poster girl for this
new pretty look.
FOR THIS LOOK WE RECOMMEND:
Rimmel Sunshimmer Bronzer, €7.25 – the way to
wear your cheeks this season is shimmering
and sculpted, this will do just that.
Rimmel Colour Rush Mono Eyeshadow,
in heather €5.25 – a cool, frosty hue for
pretty, pastel eyes – so this season.
Smash Box O-Plump Intuitive Lipgloss, €25 –
a gloss that turns lips a gorgeous custom
shade of pink while also plumping your pout!
Shiseido Accentuating Colour Stick, €32.15
– go for a pink shade, smile and apply to the
apples of your cheeks using a blusher brush for a
natural, luminous, pinky glow.
Total cost: €69.65
