Dear Families
How exciting it has been to come back to school this
week and see the students playing on the new
artificial pitches. My thanks to Diane Winterling for
following the project through during my absence, and
while there are still some finishing touches to add, the
project has been an outstanding addition to the school.
I also repeat the thanks to Jane Richards from the last
newsletter and the work she put in with Burnside
Council – a wonderful contribution from her to ensure
the success of the project.
I also note the landscaping on the western side of the
school is complete. This project as a part of our
“Come-out“ theme has been the work of Wendy
Goodson and Chris Narroway, and has really added
a new feature to the school. I hope you take some time
for a walk through the area and a short pause in the
peaceful garden setting that has been established.
Another great project, and well done.
And finally, the new front fence was started on
Wednesday, and should be finished shortly – we have
waited some time to approve this project – the final
result I am sure will further enhance the beauty of our
school.
Late news: a new roof for the transportable building
to stop the leaking that occurs with the box gutter
arrangement has just been approved – our two
reception teachers will be delighted and it will make
the verandah area a more usable space for our
students.

OSHC outsourcing
Camp Australia has been the successful tender with the
outsourcing of the OSHC, as many parents would have
known through the correspondence this week. This
process has taken many months and has been
meticulously followed through by DECD as part of our
school being a first in the state for this type of
outsourcing process. Camp Australia will be meeting
with the current staff shortly and we expect a smooth
transition to the new service.
Acting Principal
Many thanks to those who wrote their support with the

announcement of my continuing in the role of principal
for the next 7 years. It is an honour to be the principal
of such a great school, and I am looking forward to
the next steps in what has been so far an exciting time
of change for Rose Park. That said, Diane Winterling
as acting principal let nothing slip during my work in
Canada, and it is really reassuring to know I can have
this time out of the school and with Diane and the
professional staff we have, things just keep moving
smoothly.
I will provide a brief report of my work in Canada to
the next Governing Council meeting and some dot
points in the next newsletter.
use today have evolved from instruments in ancient
times. I learnt that in a group you have to compromise.

Principal
The 2013 exhibition was a very successful and enjoyable
event for all of the year 7 students. The highlights were
teaching the younger students, working as a group,
making posters and models , looking at how others
presented things and being able to do most of the work
ourselves. I learnt lots of things during the exhibition,
including lots of things about ancient musical instruments
and how to play some of them and when the instruments
were used. I also learnt lots of things about ancient
musical theatre and general ancient music.
Sarah Thompson, Room 10
The 2013 exhibition was great fun, it was very
interesting and I enjoyed every minute of it. The
highlights were communicating to other people, it made
me feel important and involved. The games this year was
also one of the main highlights and all the stations
looked neat and colourful. I learn many new things
involving new information about medicine, qis, yin and
yang, herbs, medical treatment and remedies.
Heidi Li, Room 10
IBPYP
It has been wonderful to welcome our students back
after their break and of course a special welcome to
our brand new students and their teacher Jo Ferguson.
Our last newsletter acknowledged the efforts of our
Year 7 students for their exhibition and in this
newsletter I have included some of their reflections.
The 2013 exhibition was interesting and exciting. The
highlights were definitely meeting different people and
learning heaps of interesting things. Even though we
were telling parents about transport, they taught us a
few things too. I learnt a lot of things and not just about
the work, about other people too. This year’s exhibition
was a lot of fun and I learnt a lot about team work.
Julien White, Room 10
I thought that the interactive parts of the exhibition
made it fun to learn. The feedback area was a good
idea. I learnt that working in a team can sometimes be
hard and that it is hard to complete things when student
free days, public holidays and sport get in the way.
Overall the exhibition was a different experience. It was
hard all the way through but turned but good at the end.
I would like to thank all the teachers and my friends for
helping me.
Cassie Elflett, Room 9
The 2013 exhibition was fun and interesting. I thought
the groups worked very well together. The highlights
were talking to children and adults, explaining about
medicine and teaching kids the basic facts about
medicine. I learned that Ancient Egypt, China and India
believed in bad spirits getting inside your body and the
doctors would give you a nasty drink. Overall I found
that people had a lot of fun on the day and leading up
to it. I would like to thank the teachers for helping set
up.
Matilda Bonney Seacome, Room 10
I thought the exhibition was a great experience and my
group did really well. I was proud of them. The
highlights were the attitudes of everyone because
everyone was so nice, meeting new people and playing
games, in particular quoits. I learnt it can be really hard
to work as a team for such a long period of time.
Overall it was great fun and I enjoyed it a lot. I’d like to
thank the parents for coming and the teachers for
helping.
Nathan Rees, Room 9
Diane Winterling
Deputy Principal and
IBPYP Coordinator
The 2013 exhibition was really fun and interesting. The
highlights were getting the kids to do our quiz and
working with my group. I enjoyed taking photos in the
music group and the games at the sports stall. I learnt
about the Chinese and Roman army and I also learnt
many things from the parents.
