You head east, into a short night, and
suddenly it's morning, and you're in
England! Londontown: the hub and focus
for theatergoers worldwide.
Settle into your hotel, then venture into
your surroundings. Red, double-decker
buses groan along the "wrong" side of the
road, escorted by innumerable black
taxicabs with engines that sound like
sewing machines.
Explore the city's shopping areas,
including Piccadilly and Knightsbridge.
See Harrods, the world-famous
department store.
Follow your courier on a walking tour
highlighting Leicester Square, Piccadilly
Circus and Trafalgar Square.
Meals included: Dinner

the British capital. See St. Paul's
Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the
Houses of Parliament, Big Ben,
Kensington, Trafalgar Square, Downing
Street, location of the home and business
office of the Prime Minister, and the
Changing of the Guard at Buckingham
Palace, if scheduled.
A half-day local guide, well-educated
and specially-trained on the history and
culture of London, will accompany your

British Museum • Enjoy a visit to the
world's oldest public museum, established
in 1753, which has been splendidly
renovated and has no admission fee. It
houses countless treasures of ancient and
modern civilizations. Sculptures from two
of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient
World are on display along with the Elgin
Marbles, the Rosetta Stone, an important
collection of Roman artifacts, and so
much more.

their heads), the White Tower and the
Crown Jewels. If you choose to follow
one of the Beefeaters, you'll also be able
to visit the Royal Chapel.
London Eye • Enjoy a ride on the
London Eye, the Western Hemisphere's
highest Ferris wheel at 443 feet. It's
magnificently situated by the River
Thames, across from the Houses of
Parliament. Revolving slowly above the

landmarks, notably the Bank of England,
the Gherkin skyscraper, St. Paul's

masterpieces, delve into a particular
theme, or focus on one artist's pieces.
Tours are aimed at art enthusiasts and

Half-day city sightseeing • Set out on a
coach tour of the city. On the Right Bank
of the River Seine, see Napoléon's Arc de
Triomphe, the Champs-Elysées, the Place
de la Concorde, and the exuberant Opéra
Garnier. On the Left Bank, you'll see the
Eiffel Tower, the Invalides, the Latin
Quarter, the Luxembourg Gardens and
Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Local Guide •
A local guide, well-educated and
specially-trained on the history and
culture of Paris, will accompany your
group.
Notre-Dame Cathedral • Cross the
River Seine to get to the boat-shaped
island known as the Ile de la Cité, the
very heart of the ancient city which the
Romans called Lutetia. There, visit NotreDame. This cathedral has presided over
centuries of glorious and somber French
history, from its construction in the
Middle Ages to its desecration during the
French Revolution, and the coronation of
Napoléon Bonaparte in 1804 (the 35-yearold upstart crowned himself emperor, with
the Pope and all of Europe watching).
Admire its bas-reliefs, statuary, gargoyles
and remarkable rose windows.
Bateaux-Mouches tickets • See Paris
transformed into a wonderland like no
other during a Bateaux-Mouches cruise
along the River Seine.
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Overnight: Paris
Day 7: Paris, Excursion to Versailles,
Eiffel Tower Dinner
Take a stroll along the glamorous Avenue
des Champs-Elysées, which stretches for
more than a mile from the Place de la
Concorde, where Louis XVI and MarieAntoinette encountered Dr. Guillotin's
invention and their fate. The obelisk at the
center of the square was presented by
Egypt to France in 1831 and dates back to
the 13th century BC, a relic of Ramses II.
In the vicinity stands the Palais de
l'Elysée, built in 1718, which now serves
London, Paris and Rome
Ms. Lyn Smith
as the residence of the President of the
Republic. At the other end of the avenue,
the Arc de Triomphe looms over the city's
craziest rotary. (You may want to climb
up to the monument's platform for a great
overview of the area!)
You may want head to one of the
Grands-Boulevards designed by Baron
Haussmann for a visit to the Galeries
Lafayette, the most elegant of the city's
department stores with its splendid 19thcentury glass-and-iron dome. There's a
cafeteria located on the 6th floor, from
which there's an extraordinary rooftop
view of Paris, with the fabulous gilded
roof of the Opéra Garnier in the forefront.
Excursion to Versailles • Travel to
Versailles aboard a RER train. Versailles
Castle State Apartments and Hall of
Mirrors • Enjoy a bit of relevant French
history today at the palace where the Sun
King, Madame de Pompadour and Queen
Marie-Antoinette all come to life. In this
ultimate example of Baroque architecture,
you will marvel at the lavish decoration,
abundant gilding and exuberant
ornamentation, particularly in the Royal
Apartments of Louis XIV and in the Hall
of Mirrors. Imagine the sense of selfimportance that must have inflated the
egos of these kings and queens.
You may want to enrich your royal
experience with an optional visit to the
recently renovated Petit Trianon and
Marie-Antoinette's Hamlet.
Then, take a stroll around the Main
Gardens.
Explore the park at Versailles at your
leisure. Buy refreshments at a booth or
enjoy the picnic you may have planned
earlier by purchasing typically French
food at a market. In season, opt for a ride
on the tourist train, rent a bike to explore
the far reaches of the park, or rent a boat
to row down the length of the Grand
Canal.

Tour, Dinner with Music
A short flight takes you to the "Eternal
City." Au revoir, Paris!

Apollo and Daphne, and Canova's famous
statue of Pauline Borghese, the sister of
Napoléon Bonaparte.
Courier-led evening walking tour to
the Trevi Fountain • Enjoy a walking
tour to the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome's
most celebrated sights, which was the
terminal of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. The
Trevi is at its best at night, when the
fountain is illuminated. Throw a coin into
the spray to ensure your return to this
wonderful city!

dinner while local singers and musicians
entertain you with O Sole Mio, Volare and
other favorite Italian songs.

known monuments of Ancient Rome,
including the Colosseum and the Roman
Forum. Once the heart of a vast empire,

buildings and crowded with people from
all over the known world.

buildings and trendy cafes, this oblong
