CEO MESSAGE
As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, it is a great pleasure for us to present you with our
newest company brochure introducing the strategies and product portfolio of Daewoo
Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd.
Since the establishment of our company in
October 1973, we have strived to provide
the best services and pursue sustainable
growth. With our dedication and strong
commitment, we have recorded USD
14.28 billion in new orders in 2012,
the largest amount in the shipbuilding
industry. We were the only company in
the industry to not only achieve but also
to exceed annual goals by thirty percent
to take the top market position despite the
biggest downturn in the market.
Compared to the previous year, our sales
revenue improved in 2012 to stand at
USD 12.56 trillion. Especially, the offshore
sector has been at the forefront of our
success, crossing the USD 10 billion
threshold in newly awarded contracts for
the first time in the industry. This is all
the more meaningful considering that we
achieved this splendid success as the only
non-conglomerate firm among our top
domestic competitors. As we celebrate
our success of 2012, we are once again
reminded we owe this achievement to our
deeply committed staff, and, of course,
your continuous support.
The year 2013 will be a special year in our
company’s history as we make our first
step towards our new ambitious goal to
become a top global EPCIC company. We
aim to provide a wider range of products
by strengthening our engineering and
procurement capability. We believe our
efforts will certainly enable us to provide
our clients with the best possible services
in the industry and let us claim for a more
dominant market position.
As 2013 marks the first step towards our
ambitious goal, I am more than pleased
and honored to share the three core
strategies that will take us to the next level.
FIRST, ENHANCING OUR EPCIC
CAPABILITY.
SECOND, INNOVATING OUR PROCESS TO
SHARPEN OUR COMPETITIVE EDGE.
To become a top global EPCIC company,
we will accelerate our efforts to strengthen
our R&D, engineering, production
technology, project management,
commissioning, procurement, and other
expertise to provide enhanced services.
We believe this strategy to be the ultimate
mission of our company and will endeavor
to reach the best standards. In addition, to
attract the most talented engineers in the
industry, we are planning to open a new
R&D center in the capital area of Korea.
Recently, we have seen the center of our
portfolio moving from the commercial
ships sector to the offshore sector. As this
trend is expected to continue and intensify
in the coming years, we see the need to
change and improve our working process
to be more flexible and responsive. Our
efforts to establish the best working
process in place and to improve it every
now and then will never stop.
THIRD, RENEWING OUR COMMITMENT
TO OUR CORE VALUES, TRUST AND
PASSION.
We believe our core values are the most
important force to pave our way to reach
our vision and to create a great workplace
for our staff. A highly respected Chinese
philosopher Confucius once said, “We
cannot stand without trust.” As predicting
the future has become as difficult as ever,
we believe a strong corporate culture
based on trust and passion will help us
stand strong together to navigate through
the bleak market conditions and adapt to
the rapidly changing business landscape.
Along with our commitment to trust and
passion and a great working environment,
we promise to put health, safety, and
the environment at the center of our
operations to comply with the highest HSE
standards for sustainable growth and to
work towards our zero accidents goal.
It has been a mission for Daewoo
Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering to build
a better future by tapping into the unknown
world of potential in the ocean. We look
forward to continuing this journey of
exciting challenges and opportunities with
you in the future.

TO MAINTAIN A WORKPLACE WITH NO ACCIDENTS, NO ILLNESS AND
NO POLLUTION THROUGH MANAGEMENT EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO
IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE
MAJOR HSE ACTIVITIES
DSME 12 MAJOR SAFETY RULES
Twelve major safety rules have been formed based on the results of risk assessment and
analysis of accident statistics. All our employees are required to sign and strictly adhere to
the 12 major safety rules to prevent safety-related accidents.
[Zero Tolerance]
It is a strict system in which the worker is
asked to stop working immediately and leave
the site when he/she violates any of the 12
major safety rules.
[No safety, no work]
It is a system in which workers can reject a
work order, if it is in violation of any of the
12 Major Safety Rules be taken.
IIF SAFETY OBSERVATION PROGRAM
SAFETY MILEAGE PROGRAM
“Safety is respect and consideration for your
colleagues.”
We have the nation’s largest HSE rewards
program with an annual budget of 2
billion won to motivate employees for
a no-accident goal and encourage their
HSE activities. Organizations who achieve
the goal of no-accidents for 100 days and
individual safety champions are rewarded.
DSME pursues personal safety through
consideration and concern for others.
Workers pay attention to the dangerous
behavior of their colleagues, praise them
for safe behaviors and discourage unsafe
behaviors through the safety observation
program measures.
HSE FACILITIES
We have detailed systematic HSE
programs to create a healthy, safe and
injury-free workplace.
SAFETY TRAINING FACILITIES
Experience Center and 9 safety training
centers provide safety training for over
60,000 people each year. The HSE Experience
Center features replicated facilities for major
work in the shipyard whereby working at
height, in enclosed spaces, gas and electrical
materials can be shown to allow people to
see the risks associated with those jobs,
teaching them the safe ways to carry out
work and how to respond to accidents or
emergencies.
HSE ENVIRONMENTAL
VISION & POLICY
FIRE AND DISASTER PREVENTION
FACILITIES
We have a Company Fire Squad (2119)
in operation 24/7 that is equipped with
fire engines, water wagons, ambulances,
over 11,000 fire extinguishers and indoor/
outdoor hydrants, and automatic fire
detectors and other rescue equipment to
ensure a rapid, efficient response to any
emergencies.
HEALTH AND MEDICAL FACILITIES
We have an in-house clinic for general healthcare services and emergency care for
employees with full-time doctors and nurses stationed in the facility. The internal/external
health centers provide exercise and physical therapy for patients and fitness programs
to improve employee health. Facilities have been created for employees who are
diagnosed with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), Work Related Accident Counseling and
Psychological Counseling.

FEM FOR STRUCTURAL STABILITY
POWER PLANTS WITH CARBON CAPTURE
Static/Fatigue analysis to garrantee the
20 years life time againist to wind load
and bad weather condition
As a Company concerned about environment,
DSME has been actively following discussions
regarding climate change and negative
influence of emitted CO2 on such. In order
to counter-measure the harmful effects
of emissions associated with power plant
industry, DSME decided to dedicate its
manpower to develop power plants with both
carbon capture and reduced emissions of SOx,
NOx and other particles. Based on severalyear effort, DSME is now ready to provide
client with enhanced coal and gas-fired power
plants with CO2 capture. The capture of
CO2 from flue gas takes place in pressurized
conditions which allows to increase energy
output and carbon capture efficiency as well
as to reduce plant’s footprint. Such innovation
contributes not only to plant’s reliability but
also allows for a lower capital, operating and
maintenance cost in comparison with similar
technologies. It has been demonstrated that
the DSME system captures 90% of CO2 which
can be either sold for Enhanced Oil Recovery
(EOR) making economics of the plant
comparable to those of conventional power
plants, or stored in underground formations.
To ensure technical reliability of the power
plant, DSME has built alliances with best-inclass industrial giants in Europe and USA.
