I
n early August of 2007, a crowd of kids gathered in our home
in Mineral de Pozos, Guanajuato. We had put the word out
around town that we were planning to start teaching workshops
in photography and studio art for the children of Pozos. We
were full of hope and excitement for our project that day, though
uncertain of exactly how we would proceed or how we would
be able to afford the opportunities that we hoped to give the
children.
Thanks to the support of our founding sponsors, our project took
off immediately. A year later, we published our first catalog of
art from our workshops, and alm ost immediately two museums
– one in Mexico and one in the United States – featured
exhibitions of our kids’ work.
In the summer of 2014, we offered workshops for the seventh
consecutive year. We publish this catalog, as we have each year,
to celebrate and to preserve the remarkable art that the children
of Pozos continue to produce.
We are grateful to all of those who have generously supported
our project. Their donations have provided art supplies, filmbased and digital cameras, traditional darkrooms, and a digital
laboratory.
The following pages present a selection of art in a wide variety
of media made by the participants, teaching assistants, and
instructors in our 2014 summer workshops. We continue to
celebrate the originality and quality of the art that our kids
create, and, even though our project is a relatively small one, we
embrace the good will that we foster between our two countries.

principios de agosto de 2007, un grupo de niños reunidos
en nuestra casa en Mineral de Pozos, Guanajuato. Habíamos
puesto la palabra alrededor de la ciudad que estábamos
planeando comenzar talleres de enseñanza en el arte y la
fotografía para los hijos de los Pozos. Estábamos llenos de
esperanza y entusiasmo para nuestro proyecto de ese día,
aunque incierto exactamente cómo íbamos a proceder o cómo
íbamos a ser capaces de pagar las oportunidades que esperamos
dar a los niños.
Gracias al apoyo de nuestros patrocinadores fundadores, nuestro
proyecto despegó inmediatamente. Un año después, publicamos
nuestro primer catálogo de arte de nuestros talleres, y dos
museos - uno en México y otro en Estados Unidos - exposiciones
de trabajos presentados a nuestros niños.
En el verano de 2014, ofrecimos talleres para el séptimo año
consecutivo. Publicamos este catálogo, como lo hemos hecho
cada año, para celebrar y preservar el arte notable que los hijos
de Pozos seguir produciendo.
Estamos muy agradecidos a todos los que generosamente han
apoyado nuestro proyecto. Sus donaciones han proporcionado
materiales de arte, provenientes de película y cámaras digitales,
cuartos oscuros tradicionales, y un laboratorio digital.
En las páginas siguientes se presenta una selección de arte
en una amplia variedad de medios de comunicación de los
participantes, asistentes docentes e instructores en nuestros
talleres de verano 2014. Seguimos para celebrar la originalidad
y la calidad de la materia que nuestros hijos crean, y, a pesar de
que nuestro proyecto es pequeño, abrazamos la buena voluntad
que fomentamos entre nuestros dos países.
