It amazes me that November has already found its
way into our lives…as longs as it’s here, let’s enjoy
it! Here’s hoping for wonderful weather, high spirits
and friendly competition! Speaking of which, the
weekend of November 8th & 9th marks two very important competitions – one for the LGA, the other
contested by the MGA.
The Memorial Cup sparks jabs, friendly ribbing and
smack talk galore, but it’s a true test of golf when
we all get to compete in golf’s purest form: match
play! The MGA will start with four ball matches (two
man best ball) in the morning, and then foursomes
(alternate shot) in the afternoon.
Sunday, it’s all singles… Will the blue team,
captained by 2013 Club Champion Brandon Griffin
repeat, or will the red team, guided by 2014 Club
Champion Shane Manas swoop in for the
victory? Watch Facebook closely as the matches
unfold!
While all of this is happening, members of the
Ladies Golf Association will battle it out with two
full rounds of stroke play competition, looking to
crown the LGA Champion of 2014! The ladies will
tee it up beginning at 9am on Saturday and again
beginning at 11am Sunday. Stop by and hang out
at The Quarry while we watch the drama unfold
Sunday afternoon!
Whether you are competing or just like to hang
around the club, enjoy Berry Creek this
November!

LGA falls into November
Thank you, LGA Members, for all the generous donations
to the ALS Fund. On Saturday, September 20 th, the LGA
presented $ 370 to Susan Bellard for the Emory Bellard
ALS Clinic. What great support for such a worthy cause!
And, KUDOS to Marilyn Barnett and Jackie Nolan for an
amazing Lone Star Tournament. 32 ladies participated.

On October 16 at Delaware Springs, Team Play concluded with its
seasonal competition. Berry Creek beat Delaware Springs 116.5 to
99.5. We are very proud of everyone who contributed to a great
season of Team Play. Berry Creek finished fourth for the year, behind
Lakeway, Delaware Springs and Lago Vista. We want to give a
special thanks to Tricia Custer, who was our LGA Captain this year,
and did an outstanding job of organizing our teams each month.

Be sure and mark you calendar for these three BIG tournaments during the
month of November:

November 22nd
LGA/Nine Hole Scramble

LGA Ace/Mullet
In addition, make plans to attend the LGA Awards Brunch on
December 6th . . . a great morning of fun, food and awards!
During the month of October, Kent presented clinics for our ladies on
Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm. He covered how to play holes # 8 and
18, how to play from the bunkers, short game and putting. Thank you,
Kent, and thanks to all the LGA members who participated.
Ladies who are interest in joining the LGA are encouraged to contact Membership
Chairwoman, Jean Wyatt ( [email protected] or 512-535-7189) or any of the LGA
Board Members.
Couples League
Ladies 9 Hole Golfers
The results are in…well, almost! We now know the couples
competing for the 2014 Couples League Championship,
having finished in the top eight in the year-long points
race. Playing off for the trophy and bragging rights
are: Nancy & Dave Bennett, Andrea & Ed Bridges, Dot
Lovett & Frank Doran, Katy Quinn & Danny Meigs, Jeana &
Jesse Samples, Sharon & Scott Ries, Susie & Allen
Teitelbaum, and Jean & Rob Wyatt. These teams play off
on November 2nd at 1:30PM, followed by a complimentary
dinner and drinks for all league participants to catch up
one last time and see the 2014 Couples League champions
crowned.
The 9-hole lady golfer’s Berry Bowl has come and gone
and it was a fabulous success! The western theme this
year lent itself to a really fun tournament and we ladies
were able to glitz up our boots and hats and “strut our
stuff”! Our co-chairwomen , Myrna Cardwell Smith and
Betty Richards, worked hard on this event and it clearly
showed. The décor was absolutely the best from the
table decorations down to a very large “Long Horn”
scull and horns. The golfers totaled eighty five women
with representation from Balcones, Georgetown CC,
Lago Vista, Point Venture and Sun City.
As exciting as the championship is, the focus for the league
has been to provide an enjoyable atmosphere to play golf
together with new and old friends. Well over 120 folks
joined in the party this year. So while the league takes a
short break, I’ll be working on my short game and
practicing my bad jokes ready to join in the fun again next
spring. Hope to see you all there!
It’s been a real pleasure for all of us who have
participated in the golf workshops with our Assistant
Pro, Kent Klaras. Kent is a real calming influence and a
great teacher. Our last lesson was distance and fairway
shots and the next lesson will be shots across holes #8, 9
and 18.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about Couples
League, please contact David or Kent in the Pro Shop.
The monthly luncheon last month was held at the home
of Susanne Poteete on Champions Drive. Susan’s home
is very beautiful and we were able to sit and enjoy a
spectacular view of the golf course. As usual a good
time was had by all who attended.
If you have any questions or need more information,
please contact Tracy Chipman at
[email protected]

our group please call Myrna Cardwell-Smith at

A Message from the Board Of Governors-Ron Jiede
Use of “The Quarry” is off to a great start with many Club activities such as Saturday college & Sunday
NFL football games, a successful “Neighborhood Watch Night” event, live entertainment on Saturday
evenings, and just casual conversation among friends. More enhancements to follow!
“Thanks” to the Members who have volunteered to participate in the golf course “Adopt-A-Hole”
program. We appreciate it! Additional volunteers are needed – if interested sign-up on the “Adopt-A-Hole” sign-up
sheet next to the Pro Shop. Your involvement requires little time/effort, helps course appearance around/on greens,
and will help “Make a Great Club Even Better!”.
The Garden Club volunteer membership continues to grow (16+) and this group has agreed to expand it scope of Club
beautification efforts to include Tennis/Fitness Center areas, course, etc. Continued “Kudo’s” to this group!! If
interested in these fun, rewarding activities, contact Gini at the Club.
With the Fall months here (translation: more water, mud, and debris on golf shoes), the Club has requested that
golfers “at the turn” enter the Clubhouse thru Locker Room doors. To better accommodate our golfers, a coffee
station has been added outdoors. Entering thru Locker areas will allow the Club’s front entrance to retain a more
professional appearance for Members and prospective members participating in Clubhouse events.
By Mike Schafer Committee, Chairman
Membership enrollments, for 2014, have increased by 69 Golf,
43 Tennis, and 36 Social.
As always, let’s make the next “big push” by adding
about 25 golf memberships in order to “trigger” Phase
II Clubhouse Expansion – moving the current bar to
the Pro Shop and moving the Pro Shop on the wall-side
of “The Quarry”!!! Invite friends and neighbors to join
in the BCCC experience and fun!!!!
It’s no longer a secret, about what increased membership can
accomplish. “The Quarry” (the completion of Phase I) has made a
major improvement to our Club! Don’t you agree? This should help
membership recruitment when introducing new prospects to our
facilities. I don’t recall many positive comments about the old picnic
tables.
Speaking of new membership prospects—WE NEED YOU!! To realize Phase II (The movement the Bar and Pro Shop) we need 25 new
golf members. We need YOUR sponsorship of new golf members.
Help Cynthia sign up a new golf member and you’ll get free dues for
a month and maybe a hug from Cynthia or me (your choice).
If you have friends that might be interested in joining BCCC’s great
tennis program or becoming a social member, contact Cynthia to set
up a Club tour.
We had our first Ambassador/newest members’ social after last
month’s Ambassadors’ meeting. Our new members had a chance to
meet many of the Ambassadors and were exposed to BCCC’s first
class dining experience. Many of our members who were dining
stopped by to welcome our newest members and that is why BCCC
is called “the Friendliest Club in Georgetown!”
Check out the status board, located in the lobby, to check our progress in increasing membership enrollments to meet our next goal.

What an awesome month at the Tennis Club at Berry Creek. The weather has been spectacular and so there has been
lots of tennis from all ages and levels. We hosted the Nelson Scholarship Classic. The Nelson Scholarship Foundation
has been tied to Berry Creek CC for almost 20 years now. Since 1999, the Nelson Scholarship Program has helped
seniors on the Georgetown High School Tennis Team and recently East View High School pursue their dreams for a
college education. Using money raised from individual donations and from our many fundraising activities, the Foundation has been able to award $108,000 in scholarships to 54 deserving student athletes. The event at Berry Creek this
year was another huge success. We had over 100 players with many more spectators. The tournament helped raise
over $6000 for the foundation and there was tons of fun had by all the participants. We look forward to continued
support of the Nelson Scholarship Foundations. Thanks again to all the members,
players and sponsors for helping with this event not only this year but for all the
years in the past.
Thanks for being a member,

Events You Don’t Want to Miss
Lone Star Tournament
From The Social Committee
Casino Night 2015 is around the corner. Details for date, time and reservations will be provided
next month. In the mean time, the Social Committee is seeking donations for this event. As
many of you know [and if you don't it means you've been missing out on a really fun time] at the
end of the night there are several drawings for items.
While the donation is not for a charitable cause [although contributing to fun and frolic for your
neighbors ought to be considered charity] it is an excellent way to promote and share your
business, talent or hobby with all of the Berry Creek community. Past donations have included
interior design consultations, handy-man services, lawn care, cleaning products produced at a
local company, house cleaning, gift cards to area businesses and food establishments -- these are
just a few of the items. As well, our own BC Golf Shop and Tennis Center have generously
donated items and lessons and the Club arranges for golf destination packages. When all is said
and done, the list of items people can win is quite
impressive.
Help us put together another impressive list for the
upcoming Casino Night. Your name, company, product will
on display as well as featured in an upcoming newsletter and
BCCC Facebook page. If you would like to contribute to this
event, please contact Lisa King at [email protected].
Please provide your name, contact information, item
description and quantity.
