Thank You Cindy Lamb
During our June CASA board of directors meeting recognition was
made to Cindy Lamb and her service to CASA. June was Cindy’s last
month with CASA as she took a new job serving children in a new
capacity.
As an assistant director and program coordinator Cindy has helped
CASA train and recruit advocate volunteers for children through out the
three counties we serve.
She worked diligently in events and
fundraisers along with the daily tasks of the program. We want to say
thank you to her and wish her the best of luck in the future.
Assistant Director, Rosemary Quillen
CASA would like to announce our new Assistant Director
Rosemary has been with CASA of the Ninth since January serving as the
Loudon County Program Coordinator. As of July Rosemary stepped into a
new role as the new Assistant Director. She will continue her duties as a
program coordinator for Loudon County along with working at the Roane
county office assisting advocates there.
Rosemary has a background in advocating for children through her tenure on
Lenoir City Board of Education and has served on The Loudon County
Education Foundation, Lenoir City Family Resource Center Advisory Board,
Lenoir City Schools Pre-School Advisory Board, and the Loudon County
Commission. She has been committed in shaping and implementing policies that continue to effect the best
interests of the children of Loudon County.
“I am looking forward to taking a larger role in CASA that will help make the lives of our abused and
neglected children more meaningful.” ~ Rosemary Quillen

Letter from the Executive Director
To t h e D e d i c a t e d
Advocates of the Ninth
Judicial District:
go shopping and stay tuned for updates and
information on all of our upcoming events, and as
always, anyone who is interested in helping with these
activities is welcome! In addition, we continue to
develop our in-service curriculum through the end of
the year and invite and encourage you to attend and to
provide any suggestions for topics you would like to
see covered in these learning sessions.
As I wrap up my first 30
days, I continue to be
amazed at the
compassion and commitment of our Advocates in the
Ninth Judicial District. I have had the honor and
privilege of meeting some of you and look forward to
meeting all of our volunteers in the near future.
Again, I want to extend my sincere and humble
appreciation to each and every one of you for the vital
role you play in the lives of at-risk children in our
communities and look forward to continuing this
important work as we move the program forward.
As you know, we are constantly striving to increase
our volunteer base, with the ultimate goal of having
an advocate for every child involved in the juvenile
and family court as a result of abuse and/or neglect by
their caregivers. We encourage you to spread the
word about the important work that you, as
volunteers, are doing in the community and recruit
your friends, relatives and co-workers by getting the
word out!
Respectfully,
Lindsey Brown

Last month we were fortunate to be invited to
participate in the United Way Giving Campaign at
ORNL; and to take part in a recruitment interview at
Tellico Villages’ Channel 3, “Spotlight on Tellico
Village” program. We also participated in the WECO
Outdoor Show in Morgan County. Moving forward,
we have begun the upgrade of our CasaManager
tracking software and computer systems; we are
continuing to develop our strategic plan; and we are
busy planning our upcoming events and fundraisers,
which include participation in the Ribfest of Homes to
benefit Habitat for Humanity in Loudon County; the
Annual Dinner in October, the “Share the Love”
Campaign in partnership with Earl Duff Subaru; the
Winter Blast; the Run for the Child; and renewal of
our participation in the Kroger Rewards Program. So
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Your yearly inservice training of
12 hours a year is a National
CASA standard. As we work hard
to schedule exciting inservice
training classes there are other
ways you can secure your
continued training hours. You can
find a book, webinar, and some
professional training courses that
will qualify towards your 12
hours.
Case Closure Process
Upon case closure, the CASA no
longer has court ordered authority
to advocate on behalf of a child,
and would not be protected from
liability if acting on a child’s
behalf after court jurisdiction is
terminated. Both National and
State CASA Standards require that
a CASA case be closed, and the
CASA be discharged when the
matter is closed by the Court.
This does not mean that you
cannot continue a personal
relationship with your child or
family past case closure however,
you cannot continue in the Court
Appointed Special Advocate role
or to “monitor” a case after it is
closed and a court order is entered
discharging the program.
Please feel free to contact any of
the Program Coordinators if you
have any questions or concerns
about this or need further
clarification.
