e invite all members of the international oil and gas community to IPTC Doha which will take place
6–9 December 2015 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The event is held under the patronage of
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. We hope you can find time in your busy calendars to
attend the event for our industry that is organised by our industry.
Themed “Technology and Partnerships for a Sustainable Energy Future”, we are grateful to have received over 1,300
paper submissions for the technical programme of this year’s event. This has enabled the IPTC Committee to select
a conference programme of great depth and international relevance. In total, there will be 9 conference streams
and a total of 62 technical sessions, featuring over 350 papers. This IPTC will also host a number of new features
including 6 ‘Ask the Expert’ sessions and the top-rated papers from the annual meetings of the IPTC sponsoring
societies—AAPG, EAGE, SEG and SPE. Complementing the technical sessions, there will be interactive Knowledge
Sharing ePoster sessions, featuring high quality technical presentations on the exhibition floor.
The exhibition will once again host all of the major oil and gas suppliers, and many smaller, innovative service
providers, that operate in the region and we hope this will serve as a great arena for networking and the exchange
of ideas.
We hope you can join us on the evening of 6th December for the presentation of the IPTC “Excellence in Project
Integration” Award. Once again we will recognise the achievement of a project team that has successfully
integrated across disciplines to execute a major industry project from discovery to delivery.

This course in designed for a broad range of geoscientists and engineers working in the petroleum industry. The course provides improved linkage between the techniques used at various scales
to describe and model petroleum reservoirs. The ultimate objectives are to enable technical staff to maximize the recovery of hydrocarbons. The impact of petrophysical heterogeneity at various
scales on the recovery of oil and gas provides the focus for the course.

Patrick Corbett
Patrick W. M. Corbett started in the industry in 1978 at Unocal and worked in various positions in international (United Kingdom, the Netherlands,
and Indonesia) exploration and development geoscience. Since coming to Heriot-Watt University in 1989, his research focus has been on the
integration of geoscience and engineering through geologic analysis, petrophysical measurement, permeability anisotropy modelling, well test
interpretation, dynamic upscaling, and genetic petrophysics.
Corbett graduated with a degree in geology (Exeter University, 1977), followed by an MSc in micropalaeontology (University College London, 1978), a postgraduate
diploma in geological statistics (Kingston University, 1982), and a PhD and DSc in petroleum engineering and petroleum geoengineering (both from Heriot-Watt
University, 1993 and 2006, respectively). He is a member of AAPG, EAGE, SEG, Geol. Soc., IAS, PESGB, SCA, SEPM, SPE, and SPWLA, and is a Chartered Geologist, and a
Chartered Scientist. He has co-authored the books “Statistics for Petroleum Engineers and Geoscientists” and “Cores from the Northwest European Hydrocarbon Province.”
Corbett was an EAGE Distinguished Lecturer (Petroleum Geoengineering) in 1998 and an SPE Distinguished Lecturer (Integration of Geology and Well Testing) in 1998–99.
In 2005, he was awarded the Wegener Medal by EAGE for the integration of geoscience and geoengineering. Patrick was awarded the2006 SPE Europe and Russia Regional
Technical Award for Distinguished Contribution to Petroleum Engineering in the Area of Reservoir Description and Dynamics.

This course will emphasize critical considerations during enhanced oil recovery (EOR) screening and pilot design. Discussions will include monitoring and surveillance, and EOR
project implementation. Appropriate case studies and exercises will be used to illustrate various concepts.

Ashok Singhal
Ashok K. Singhal, an expert in EOR technologies and horizontal well applications, is a principal consultant with Premier Reservoir Engineering Services, where
he provides consulting and training in EOR. He has more than 35 years of worldwide oil and gas experience in heavy oil and tar sand reservoir engineering,
horizontal well technology, CO2 flooding, thermal EOR, and waterflood projects. He has lectured on EOR, horizontal well applications and other topics around
the world.
Singhal is an engineering alumnus of Indian School of Mines and the University of Alberta, Edmonton.
He earned his PhD in petroleum engineering from the University of California and later taught chemical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology and petroleum engineering
at the University of Alberta.

Seismic Multiple Removal Techniques: Past, Present and Future (EET1)

The main objective of this course is to give the audience an overview of the techniques in seismic multiple removal, starting with the deconvolution-based methods from the
1960’s, via the move-out discrimination techniques of the 1980’s and ending up with wave-equation based methods from the 1990’s and their 3D extensions as developed in the
2000’s. Furthermore, the current challenges in multiple removal and their relation with seismic imaging and inversion are treated. A secondary objective is to discuss more general
processing concepts such as high-resolution seismic data transforms (Fourier, Radon), adaptive filtering techniques, wave-equation based forward and inverse wave propagation
and the processing of seismic data in different transform domains.

Dirk J. Verschuur
Dirk J. (Eric) Verschuur received his M.Sc. degree in 1986 and his Ph. D degree (honors) in 1991 from the Delft University of Technology (DUT), both in applied
physics. From 1992 - 1997 he worked under a senior research fellowship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Art and Sciences (KNAW). In 1997 he became
assistant professor and since 1999 he is an associate professor at the DUT at the laboratory of Acoustical Imaging and Sound Control.
He is the project leader of the DELPHI research consortium in the area of Multiple Removal and Structural Imaging. His main interests are seismic modeling,
processing and migration techniques. In 1997 he received SEG’s J. Clarence Karcher award. He is a member of SEG and EAGE.

This course covers practical methods for analysing the performance of existing waterfloods and optimising their technical and economic performance. Geological complexities in
the reservoir often become apparent only after a waterflood has been implemented. Other operational factors could also result in performance that is significantly different from
what was expected. This course focuses on surveillance methods and corrective measures that can help to optimise a field’s performance.

Brian Weatherill, P. Eng., is a petroleum engineering specialist with APA Petroleum Engineering with more than 30 years of oilfield experience. Prior to becoming
a consultant in 1998, Weatherill spent over 20 years with Shell Canada where he gained extensive experience in petroleum engineering, enhanced oil recovery,
petroleum technology management and project management. Weatherill has also managed well stimulation operations for a privately-owned Canadian
company.

The Energy4me student workshop targets high school
students (grade 10 to grade 12). The programme

petroleum industry, career opportunities, or how energy
makes an impact on our everyday lives.
The definition of Young Professional is someone with less
than 10 years industry experience or/and aged 36 and

High School Projects Competition

This five-day programme benefits the best
undergraduate and post-graduate (masters only)
geosciences and engineering students from
international institutions across the Eastern Hemisphere.
It is anticipated that approximately 100 students
will be selected to attend the programme, with
student expenses covered through sponsorships.
The programme gives students a clear insight into
the industry that they are about to join and offers the
opportunity to form new friendships and work together
on joint activities.
Energy4me Teachers’ Workshop
The High School Students Programme targets students
in grades 10 and above. A group of approximately
200 students from schools within Qatar will be invited
to participate. The Education day programme on 8
December 2015 will include speeches, team building
activities, educational videos and a tour of the IPTC
exhibition. Students will display their projects at the
Youth Pavilion located at the IPTC exhibition area on
9 December 2015.

The programme believes in the importance of giving
teachers the tools they need to comfortably teach

International Petroleum Technology Conference, Limited c/o
Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
• Cancellations received by 6 October will receive a full
refund less USD 150.
