South Texas Health System announced November 30, 2011 that it reached
an agreement to bring Knapp Medical Center located in Weslaco, TX,
into the health system. The partnership incorporates Knapp into the
South Texas Health System (STHS), which has four acute care facilities,
Edinburg Regional Medical Center, Edinburg Children’s Hospital, McAllen
Medical Center and McAllen Heart Hospital; one behavioral health center,
South Texas Behavioral Health Center; and a short-stay surgical hospital,
Cornerstone Regional Hospital.

The Wound Center at Knapp Medical
Center is the only wound care facility
in the Rio Grande Valley that has
been certified by the Undersea &
Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).
It is also the only facility in the Rio
Grande Valley to have a complete
staff of UHMS certified technicians
and registered nurses.
The Knapp Diabetes Center recently
signed a two-year agreement with
the Texas Health and Human Services
Commission to administer the
Texas Medicaid Wellness Program. A
portion of this vital program includes
providing Diabetes Self Management
Training to eligible clients diagnosed
with diabetes.
Knapp distributed 70 car seats through the Texas
Department of State Health Services SafeRider
Program. Knapp staff also participated in 9 car seat
check stations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
