ST MICHAEL’S CATHOLIC SCHOOL
“Be it known to all who enter here that CHRIST
is the reason for this school”
31st March 2016
Dear Parents
“He is Risen! Alleluia!
I am sure that you all enjoyed the lovely break over the Easter Weekend, being with family and friends.
Although my drive back to the Coromandel was rather slow and tedious due to the joys of the holiday
traffic, it was certainly wonderful being able to spend five days at home, and celebrating Easter with my
family.
The celebration of Easter does not stop on Easter Sunday, but continues for a full 50 days, until Ascension
Day. I found an article with 40 ideas for teachers and families to make the most of this time of spiritual
growth, and thought I’d share some of these with you to reflect on:
 Identify one area of your life you would like to change. Pray for the strength to do it
 Seek challenge. Plunge in and trust God to help you
 Follow the spiritual geography of Jesus. Turn to the map section of your Bible. Note where he was
born, baptized, engaged in ministry, was crucified, and appeared after his resurrection
 Pray for peace in Syria and other parts of the Middle East
 Cultivate silence and solitude
 Simplify life
 Be guided by this insight from Mother Teresa: “God has created us so we can do small things with
great love”
If you would like a copy of the complete list, Genevieve, can send you a copy!
Earlier in the term I mentioned that St Michael’s will be celebrating 100 years of education on this site in
Beatrice Road, in February 2017. A small committee has formed to begin planning for the event, and we
would be delighted if interested parents or friends of the St. Michael’s community joined us at our next
meeting, next Thursday, April 7th, at 11 a.m. We would really like to have a few more people come on
board, to help us!
A Facebook page “St. Michael’s Catholic School Site - Centenary 2017” has been set up to let past pupils
and their families know about the event. Please like and share the page so that as many people know
about it!
The centenary is likely to be held the last weekend in February. We are waiting for confirmation from
Bishop Pat, before locking in the date.
BOT ELECTIONS
Thank you to the parents that attended yesterday evening’s presentation for parents interested in joining
the Board of Trustees. You are also invited to attend the next Board Meeting, on Monday April 11th, at
6.30 pm. A booklet from the School’s Trustees Association “A parent’s guide to the role of the board of
trustees” is available for interested parents at the school office. You may also contact Sarah Langley or
myself, if you want to know more about this important role in the school.

HEALTH AND SAFETY - REMINDER
Before and After School
Junior Block
It is lovely to see so many parents and siblings enjoying the sunshine outside the Junior Block in the
afternoons! We would like to respectfully remind parents to please wait on the bleachers, away from the
doors and windows, to ensure that our children are able to focus on their afternoon learning, as the
children can find the noise very distracting. Thank you!
Health and Safety - Upper Playground:
We have concerns regarding the children's safety on the upper playground after school. Please be aware
that there is no teacher supervision of children on the playground after 2.55pm. It is essential that
children are actively supervised by an adult, at the playground site, if they are using it after school.
Trees:
We are encouraging the children to be respectful of our school environment, and in particular our green
areas. Please ensure that children are not climbing the tree outside Room 1 before and after school.
Thank you for your continued support.

CHILD CANCER & MONTE EASTER DELIVERY
Zoe raised $507 dollars!!! What a "monster fighting" effort. Thank you so much St Michael’s.
A huge thank you to the St Michaels community donating those lovely Easter treats for Monte Cecilia. The
children were thrilled to receive such wonderful goodies. It really made their Easter special. Leon, Poppy,
Henry, Bastian & Oliver are looking into other ways to " do their bit" that could help those in need so look
out for future incentives driven by our Room 7 senior leaders!

Southern Steel Netball training
By Aimee and Alexandra – Room 7
On Wednesday the 31st of March two netball players from the southern steel team came
to train the Saints and Stars netball teams. The reason Storm and Brooke came, was
because Miss Bagnall entered in a competition and we WON! They went over lots of drills
that were defence and attack. At the end of the Session the two SMCS teams got a photo
with the girls. Thank you Miss Bagnall for making this all happen!
