Principal`s Message - Noelani Elementary School
NOELANI SCHOOL PARENT BULLETIN ! May 16, 2013 Artist: Noelani Kabutaulaka Principal’s Message Dear Noelani Parents and Friends, It is hard to believe that there is only a few days left of school. It has truly been an amazing year. I would like to congratulate our 5th graders and wish our graduates all the best as they continue their educational journey. Please remember all of the friendships and memories made here at Noelani. You will always have a special place in our hearts. We would also like to thank everyone for a fantastic May Fair and 50th Anniversary Celebration. There were a few target objectives for the day that we can proudly say were met – (1) have fun; (2) allow time for both our current students and alumni to enjoy; and (3) invite the school community to see how Noelani has evolved over the past 50 years. A special mahalo to our May Fair Committee, faculty, Noelani retirees, and parent volunteers for making the day a memorable one. Friday, May 24th is our last day of school. Commencement ceremonies for our 5th graders will begin at 8:45 am. It will be standing room only – please plan accordingly. This is a full school day so students will be dismissed at 2:15 pm. Our A+, Manoa Japanese Language School and the Manoa Valley Church after school programs will be in session. This is also the last workday for teachers as well. Due to our final stage of our electrical upgrade project, the office hours for two weeks during the summer will be limited. From June 3-14, 2013, the Noelani Office will be open from 8:00-noon daily. Once the project is complete, we will resume normal business hours (7:30 am – 4:00 pm). Please note, our school servers will also be shut down during these two weeks, therefore, our school website will be down as well. Office work will be limited during this time. We would like to wish all of our students a restful and enjoyable summer. Most students will still have access to our online programs and are allowed to use them over the summer. Please continue to read and remain active daily. We look forward to everyone’s return for the 2013-14 school year on Monday, August 5! Sincerely, Rochelle Mahoe, Ph.D. Principal Poem of the Month Calling All Readers by Laura Purdie Salas I’ll tell you a story I’ll spin you a rhyme. I’ll spill some ideas – and we’ll travel through time. Put down the controller. Switch off the TV. Abandon the mouse and just hang out with me. I promise adventure. Come on, take a look! On a day like today, there’s no friend like a book. Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Textbooks/Library Books Please be sure to clear any outstanding obligations for overdue, lost, or damaged school textbooks or library books before the end of the school year. As stated in the Hawaii Revised Statutes [302A-‐1130.5], “Any student found responsible for the loss, destruction, breakage, or damage of school textbooks, instructional material, library books, equipment or supplies, shall make restitution to the school.” Payments are due only if books are lost or damaged beyond repair. Any payment due should be for the exact amount and made payable to Department of Education. 2013 Honolulu District Speech Festival Fourteen Noelani Elementary students participated in the 2013 Honolulu Speech Festival at McKinley High School on Saturday, May 4.
