What a glorious time for us to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The great sacrifice that He made for us, allows us to celebrate the gift of our salvation and eternal life.

SUMMER CHILDCARE
Childcare will be available this summer at Zion. Those needing summer childcare should register
as soon as possible. Childcare is available for grades K-8. Forms are available in the school office,
or at the childcare center.
Time to Register!
What a blessing this school year has been! Our focus on living as Children of God has made the focus of
the year centered on Christ. It is hard to believe that we are preparing for the upcoming school year.
Registration allows us to prepare for the upcoming year. Let us know if you have any questions for the
upcoming school year.
Love and Logic
“Parenting is always tough!” “My child didn’t come with an owners’ manual.” “How can I get my
children to be respectful to me?” These comments are shared often by parents. Yes, parenting is a fulltime job. It does require parents to be “on” all of the time. Children don’t come with an owners manual.
Love and Logic is a helpful tool is raising your children to be responsible and respectful adults and enjoy
the journey of getting to that point.
Another class of Love and Logic will begin on Tuesday evenings at Zion. The class will begin at 6:00pm
and end at 8:00 pm. Childcare will be provided during the class. Registration forms are available in the
school office. Classes start on Tuesday, April 17th and runs for 7 Tuesdays. Contact Kristie Sombke with
questions. Registration forms can be turned in to the school office.
Spring Pictures
You received a form about picture day. Our photography company is offering some fun spring picure
opportunities at a good price. If you are interestedin your child having their picutre taken, please return
the photo order form. Picture day is Tuesday, April 24th.
Math Pentathlon
This week the 3rd and 4th graders at Zion were invited to participate in Math Pentathlon. A great way for
students to learn and develop a deeper understanding of math and strategy. We give thanks for the
donation of the program and look forward to expanding it to more students over the next several years.
Dani’s Dream Celebration
Dani’s Dream will be celebrating with the Zion students on April 19th. Hedgehog Hannah will be
coming to visit Zion and bringing her exotic friends with her. PS-3rd grade will enjoy the show from
1:00 - 1:40. 4th -8th graders will enjoy the show from 1:50 - 2:30. Thanks to Donna Griffen for sharing
with us! Congratulations on being Indiana’s Outdoor lab of the Year!
Zion Art Fair
The halls of Zion are decorated with the beautiful work of the students. Enjpy a stroll down the halls to
see many different mediums and expressions of art. Three students from each class will have their
artwork displayed at Lutheran High School for the Fine Arts Festiveal on April 20th.
Fine Arts Festival
The Lutheran Schools from central Indiana will gather together on Friday, April 20 for the Fine Arts
Festival. The band and choirs will be practicing together during the day. The choirs will enjoy learning
from a local clinician. The concert wil be on Friday evening at 7:00. Come early to the concert and enjoy
viewing hte tops artists work from all the area Lutheran schools.
Band Rehearsals
The band is preparing for their Spring Concert on May 12th. They will have an extra rehearsal on
Tuesday, April 17th from 5:00 - 5:45 at LHSI.
Tardies
Please remember that class starts at 8:30. Students should be at school prior to this time to allow them the
opportunity to complete their morning duties and get ready for the day. If you are here after 8:30,
students must be signed in at the office by the parent. Please do not drop them off at the front door after
8:30 and drive away. School doors are open at 8:00 am each morning.

With the nice weather and spring’s arrival, it is very important to continue to keep up with homework and
school responsibilities. Please encourage your child to be prepared, stay on top of their homework, and
complete their projects.

ALUMINUM CANS—We are once again collecting aluminum cans for the 7/8 grade trip to Washington,
DC in May. Mr. Jim Sprowl recycles for us. Thank you, Mr. Sprowl! Please be sure cans are double
bagged and left outside the kitchen door on the back side of the building. Many thanks in advance for
your support.
WEEKLY CHURCH SERVICES—Zion offers weekly church services: Saturdays at 6 p.m. & Sundays at
8:00 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Sunday Youth Ministry is held on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. We invite everyone to
join us for worship!

Zion School Fund Raising Activities
2011 – 2012
Annual Fund Raising Events:
SCRIP
Did you ever wonder how you can help? Ever run out of time to do the things you want to
help with? We have a great way for you and your family help with the ministry of Zion,
without taking time or costing anything.
Scrip is a program for families in our church and school to raise money for Zion without
spending a dime. All you need to do is plan out where you are going to shop for gas and
groceries, order your Scrip Cards by Monday noon, and have them delivered to your mailbox
by Friday noon. You, together with the multitudes at Zion, can raise funds to help cover the
cost of curriculum and possibly even supplies for the school. On the back of this paper is an
order form for you to complete, write your check to Zion to cover the cost of the Gift Cards,
and have them by the weekend.
Your dedication to purchasing your cards through Zion can raise tens of thousands of dollars
for the school ministry. Thank you for taking the time to help expand our ministry and
increase our funds.
TRASH BAG SALES
Trash Bags are for Sale. The PTL of Zion will be selling trash bags through the end of the
school year. These great trash bags are available to you at a great price and are available
everyday in the school office.
Cost for trash bags is $12.00 per roll / or $60.00 per case of 6 rolls (case price make the 6th
one free)Available Sizes are 55 gal., 39 gal., 30 gal., & 18 gal. Let us know which bags work
best for your jobs at home, work, or at the office.
Pork Chop Dinner and Silent Auction – March 17, 2011, from 4:00 -7:30 p.m. Come and
enjoy an evening of fun with other Zion Lutheran Church and School families. The menu for the
evening will be State Fair Pork Chops, baked potato, salad, rolls and desserts. The silent
auction will feature many fun and exciting items for you and your family to bid on. Plan on a fun
evening together with friends at Zion.
On-going Fund Raising Activities:
TRASH BAG SALES will continue. Thanks to the businesses and families who ordered trash
bags. These will be available during the entire school year.

in the school office, every Sunday between worship services in the narthex, on Wednesday
mornings before Chapel, and now at Scrip on-line…see details below. Gift cards are purchased
at a reduced value and sold to parents/friends at face value. You can help Zion raise money
without spending anything extra! Retailers include Walmart/Sam’s, Marsh, Macy’s, Dick’s,
Speedway, etc. Note: Walmart/Sam’s cards give you an extra discount on gas! They make
great gifts and it is a one stop shop!
ScripNow!™ is ShopWithScrip.com’s newest and quickest way to purchase and use scrip. You
can order, pay for, and print eCards, and use them within minutes. ScripNow! is currently
available for The Home Depot, Amazon.com, O'Charley's, 99 Restaurants and Stoney River.

FRESH IDEAS FOR EDUCATION—We are participating in the Marsh “Fresh Ideas for
Education” program. This program is designed to help us earn much needed educational
equipment for our school. This equipment will be used by our students to further enhance their
education and we need your help.
1. Make sure you have a Marsh Fresh Ideas Card. If you do not, please get one at any
Marsh Customer Service Counter or on-line at www.marsh.net.
2. You may also sign up for our school or change schools at www.marsh.net. Enter your
card number and the school code below.
3. After you register, when you shop at Marsh and use your Fresh IDEA Card, our school
will automatically receive credit.
4. You only have to register once. Our school code is 41612.
MEIJER COMMUNITY REWARDS—We also participate in the Meijer Community Rewards
program. Simply apply for a frequent shopper card, and scan it each time you shop.
Applications are available in the school office!
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION—This year Box Tops has even more participating products.
They have added Pillsbury, Green Giant, Totino’s, Progresso, Old El Paso and Gold Medal
Flour. It may take some time for the Box Tops to get on the packaging, but keep an eye out for
them. Our new goal is $1000. Start collecting!
CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS—We collect the UPC codes from Campbell’s soup products,
including Pepperidge Farms goldfish, rolls, and frozen desserts, Campbell’s soups and V*
juices. A collection box is located outside the school office.
TYSON PROJECT A+ LABELS-We also collect Tyson labels from their frozen chicken
products. Be sure to save the entire end flap. Again, a collection box is located outside the
school office.
ABITIBI PAPER RECYCLING—Paper, magazine, and newspaper recycling is available daily at
the school. There is a large green and yellow collection bin located on the parking lot near the
gymnasium. Please deposit your items…it’s good for our school and the environment! ELABELS FOR EDUCATION - This is an education support program. By creating an account
through www.elabelsforeducation.com, registering your shopper's card, and purchasing Labels
for Education eligible brands products, schools can earn FREE educational merchandise, such
as computers, software, sports equipment, musical instruments, library books and even a
minivan. The school redeems the points collected for FREE merchandise from the e-Labels for
Education catalog.
PRINT CARTRIDGE RECYCLING—We recycle old printer cartridges (ink and laser), as well as
cell phones. These items may be placed in the green recycling box outside the school office.
Again, good for Zion and the school!
Local Olympian Thomas Finchum will perform along with his band, Northern Nights, at a
benefit concert on Saturday, April 21, 7:30 pm in the Ruth Lilly Auditorium.
Thomas Finchum, a Lutheran High School graduate and a member of the 2008 Olympic diving
squad, is the lead singer of the 4 man band. Northern Nights band mates include Drew Beechler
(bass), Nathan Ayers (drums and keys), and Brock Bell (lead guitar). The band, formed in the
summer of 2011, promises an exciting performance filled with covers and brand new original
songs, including Baby, I’m Gone which is available on iTunes. The benefit concert will also
include Zach Dubois as the opening act. Zach is a graduate of Notre Dame University and hails
from Elkhart, IN.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the LHSI Athletic Department. Tickets are $10 per person
and all ages are welcome. Lutheran High School is located at 5555 S. Arlington Avenue,

It’s LHSI Spirit Day at Chick-fil-A in April! Go to the Chick-fil-A at 5240 E Southport Road
between 4 and 8 pm on Wednesday, April 25 or to the one at 10791 E US Highway 36, Avon
between 6 am and 10 pm on Thursday, April 26. Present the Spirit Day flyer and a
percentage of your purchase will be donated to LHSI. The coupon is available in the school
office and at lhsi.org.
The Theatre Department at LHSI is proud to present Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka.
Performances will be Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 and Sunday, May 6 at 2:00
pm in the Ruth Lilly Auditorium.
We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of this delightful, imaginative, fun-filled musical. “Come
with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination! Take a look and you’ll see into your
imagination!” There will be candies to tempt, oompa-loompas to sing with, chocolate rivers,
everlasting gobstoppers, and fizzy lifting drinks. It will be a factory tour like no other and one not
soon forgotten. You don’t want to miss this one!
Tickets (adult $10, student $5) will be available April 16 in the school office, 787-5474, or at
lhsi.org.
Summer sports camps will be offered at LHSI during June. There will be camps for
boys’/girls’ cross country June 4–6; boys’/girls’ soccer June 4–8; boys’/girls’ volleyball
June 11–15; girls’ basketball and boys’ basketball June 18–22. The volleyball and girls’
basketball camps are for students who have completed 1st–8th grade; the others are for those
who have completed 4th–8th grade. Get information and a registration form at lhsi.org.
Lutheran High School plans to hire a part time Stringed Instrument instructor for the 2012–
2013 school year. This position is for the implementation of a Strings Program in area Lutheran
Elementary schools in grades 1–4 initially. Interested persons may contact Patrick Winningham,
