For those of you who know me, you know my passion for our team is strong, over the last four years i
have watched from afar the peaks and valleys of both our squad and our section, last night i decided
that sitting on my hands was no longer appropriate and it was time to issue a challenge to both the
fans, and the team. On the eve of another MLS season, some of you, if not all are getting that feeling
in the bottom of your stomach, for some of you, it is that excitement, that joy that another year of
passion and friendship has arrived, that intrinsic "thing" you thrive for is back, the time is here to step
up and give 110% to your squad, to live and die with them, ultimately it is a time to step out of your
shell and sing at the top of your voice, drink until you're beyond drunk, and live at the edge. For
others it's enjoying your youth, or maybe it's recapturing it, and then for some it's just going along
for the ride. For the other side that feeling is a sinking feeling, will we drag the bottom of the
league? Will 3 points be a laughable concept? Am I wasting yet another weekend on nostalgia? Let me
be the first to tell you, we will not, you will not, and here is why. As Fire fans we have a
responsibility, 110% every game, every minute, every day. If you identify yourself with this club, then
ensure the good outweighs the bad. Challenge yourself to never quit, for how can you expect the
squad to do the same? You do not sit in the club section, smiling and indifferent to the play on the
field; you made a decision, a decision to be more. If you want to drink beers and sing songs on the
weekend find a karaoke bar and rot in it, that is not what we are here for. We provide strength,
motivation, and intimidation. We push the players when there is nothing left in the tank, we demand
excellence, NOTHING LESS, there is no reason this squad cannot bring us silverware, ever. We must
push the players to tackle hard, strike hard, and play smart EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY GAME. Chicago
is a squad that should be highlighted on every teams schedule, for the results they bring on the field,
and for what we bring to the match, there is no excuse ever, EVER, that they should not put up three
points on the table, we can and must dominate every time.
Here is where you come in, as i stated before, you consider yourself more than just a casual Fire fan,
you are part of the beating heart, THE SOUL, of this squad. If it is your first match, or your last, you
MUST give everything you have every time, as there is no excuse for the squad to not give it all, there
is no excuse for you to do the same. We must not accept mediocrity in our ranks, we are not Barnum
and Bailey FC, there are no elephants, there are no tigers, this isn't a goddamn circus, and i will no
longer allow it to be treated as one. I promise you that as I will accept no less than all from my squad
i will accept no less from you. If you can not meet or exceed your own expectations of effort for the
club, you can go home, save your 15 dollars and save me the 5 minutes of being in your face, because i
will be, you can book it. Unlike others here I will not wait until I get home to cry on the internet about
a lack of passion, you will know right away when you are in the wrong, you will identify and fix the
problem or I suggest you find new seats.
We have something many teams don't, strength in numbers and unity, we will not sacrifice that, and we
will not allow weakness to fill our ranks. This season will be one of unity and brotherhood unlike
never before, we, the fans, will be stronger than ever before, louder than ever before, and I promise
you our squad will play as never before. We must be a force to be reckoned with, there is no reason
not to be. Live up to your capabilities, live up to the tradition of this squad, and for god sake live up to
your own expectations for the team and yourself.
For the team, as always, we are behind you, our expectations may be high, but we are not
unreasonable. You are in this league because you have talent, strength, passion, and commitment. I
challenge you, we as fans challenge you to never take a game off, never take a play off, EVER. We
will be your rock, we will be unwavering, and we will stand beside you always. Bring the strength
back, bring the pride back, and put us at the top forever. We will be strong for you every game, no
matter our numbers, all we ask is you do the same, it is your PRIVILEGE to wear the colors as it is ours,
it is our HONOR to stand behind you, as it should be yours to play for us. If you leave it all out on the
field every game nothing can stop us, no matter who we play make 11 into 1, make us proud, and let
Chicago be known for all time.
Cheers,
Brandon Kitchens (1983-2007)

Club Supporters’ Charter
Section 8 Chicago History
Chicago Fire fan culture began over ten years ago, in the Spring and Summer of 1997, with the
establishment of Barn Burners 1871. The group formed as a precursor to the announcement of
Chicago's selection as a site for the league's first expansion team, and spent the time prior to the club
founding in October of that year laying groundwork for an organization dedicated to the needs of
the nascent fan base. BB1871, along with original club GM Peter Wilt, selected Section 8 at Soldier
Field as a designated standing area to encourage the style of fandom traditionally seen globally in
soccer, at sporting events worldwide, and in college athletics in America.
Introduction
The experiment was an instant success, drawing large numbers on the way to the Fire's league
championship that first season; and established the club and Fire supporters as leaders of the
movement in North America.
WE ARE THE FIRE
The Chicago Fire Soccer Club is unwavering in its commitment to the tradition, honor and passion that
is the Chicago Fire. Our Club represents all that is Chicago – authentic, tough, proud and gritty. We
are unapologetic in our devotion to our supporters and to the beautiful game. The Chicago Fire
Soccer Club fully embraces and is inspired by the energy, enthusiasm and passion that our supporters
bring to each and every match. Our supporters come from all walks of life and from every corner of
the world. No matter the background, all are welcome to support our club. We are the Chicago Fire.
Our values include a commitment to the community and to ensuring a safe, enjoyable and entertaining
soccer experience for all of our guests. Most importantly, we are committed each and every day
towards the ultimate goal of winning championships.
We recognize that it is our responsibility to be a leader in our community. It is our desire to not only
win on the pitch but also off of it. It is paramount that we grow the passion for this Club and for the
game of soccer throughout our great city.
“Our expectations are high, and that’s because you, our supporters demand it. Working together with
you, we are committed to a sense of unity and purpose that extends from our fan base to our front
office, from the first team all the way down to our youth development program and, of course, to our
community work. Thank you for always reminding the organization of what’s possible and what we
are all capable of accomplishing together as a community, that our goal is not to be mediocre; that
we shouldn’t ever be satisfied with where we are but rather be excited about where we want to go
and do something to get there. We can all do it together.”
Andrew Hauptman (March 31st 2010)
Chicago Fire Soccer Club Owner
The Fire Ultras, originally inhabitants of Section 9 in the opposite South End corner, chose to move
into Section 8 in 1999, an event credited as the true beginning of "Section 8" as it is known now. By
mixing the American style of BB1871 with the continental European ultras style of FU98 in a way
that could only happen in Chicago sports, a completely new, vibrant, and infectious blend occurred.
The result was a great success and led to permanent cohabitation in the section, soon followed by
the establishment of new groups within the whole. Despite an adversarial relationship with stadium
security forces, the "controlled chaos" attracted many new fans with Section 8 often swelling past
1000 persons and taking over two sections for matches in 2000 and 2001; when the Fire was home to
American and international favorites like Nowak, Stoitchkov, Kubik, Bocanegra, Beasley, Wynalda,
and Armas.
In 2002, renovations of Soldier Field forced the club to temporarily move to a smaller neighborhood
stadium in western Naperville. Restrictive policies at this college campus and comparatively poor
performance by the club stifled growth, but the move introduced behind-the-goal seating to Section
8. The entire north stand was designated as a supporters’ area, and the close proximity to the field
led to a greater unity between the supporters, the rest of the stadium, and the players on the field.
The small stadium also allowed some more creative elements to take root, with larger flags and
banners being constructed by groups to express devotion; or at one memorable cup quarterfinal, the
complete relocation of Section 8 to the opposite end at half-time to the surprise and disgust of the
visiting goalkeeper.
The return to Soldier Field in 2003 saw Section 8 take root behind the south goal at the renovated
facility. The additional space led to a movement of spreading banners along the walls of the field
and upper tiers throughout the stadium. Also, in the traditional European style, large organized prematch visuals (or “tifo”) became standard for bigger matches and incorporated fans throughout the
South End and stadiumwide. Also in 2003, the Section 8 Chicago ISA was founded as an independent
non-profit umbrella organization to administer fan activities, coordinate with the Chicago Fire
Soccer Club, and work as a community presence.
2004 and 2005 were lower years with stagnating performance by the team. The low point occurred in
2005 with the shocking dismissal of club president Peter Wilt by ownership. But this nadir energized
the base in a way not seen in years as fans organized a large protest at the next match, wearing black
and staying out of the seats for the first 8 minutes in a show of solidarity with the former club
president; and taking their case to the media in Chicago and nationwide.
The club moved to its newest home at 71st Street and Harlem Avenue in Spring of 2006. Section 8 took
up their residence in Sections 117 and 118 on the north side, or “Harlem End” of Toyota Park -- so
named for the way it overlooks Harlem Avenue. The combined resources of the groups and the ISA
quickly brought several large projects to fruition, including the commission of a traditional wooden
sign for the player tunnel, funding a brick display at the front archway in honor of former club
president Peter Wilt and creating one of the largest fan-produced flags in professional sports - the
80 by 25 yard Megabandera that covered the entire Harlem End. While lost in 2008, its replacement
will surpass the original's size and concept to keep Fire support at the leading edge in North America.
