Jaden and Will Smith Survive ‘After Earth’ Apocalypse in
Gotham
By: Stephen Schaefer/Thursday, May 30, 2013
Even though a thousand years from now in “After Earth” humans are hunted and killed
by hideous aliens, there was joy all around Sony’s environmentally green, not red,
carpet at the May 29 Ziegfeld premiere in Gotham.
Alongside stars Will and Jaden Smith, 50 Cent, moonwalker Buzz Aldrin Jr. and Spike
Lee, there was Bruce Willis looking very happy.
“I’m a fan of the director,” he said of M. Night Shyamalan, his “Sixth Sense” helmer.
“That was a pretty good film and I’m just excited to see this.”
Willis has “Red 2” due in August, “But I’m unemployed now. Until September. Then I’m
going to work.”
The movie? “It’s called ‘Death Wish.’”
Did Shyamalan find it tough to start at the top with “Sixth Sense”?
“I wish that’s where I started,” he said with a laugh. “I had two failed movies before that.”
Variety noted that the “After Earth” poster doesn’t bear the filmmaker’s name after a
series of B.O. disappointments. Does he see this as a comeback?
“I didn’t know I went anywhere,” he answered, laughing again. “No, it’s a very cool
opportunity. What I’ve learned is you have to set expectations correct when it’s an
original movie. So I had the perfect opportunity with Will and Jaden, and in my mind I
said to the studio, ‘I want the campaign to be ‘Pursuit of Happyness Part 2.’ I want to
make sure the two of them are on the poster. I don’t want the public to think of it as a
Will movie and I don’t want them to think of it as me doing it with Will.’”
Smith had dreamed up the pic’s premise while his son was filming “Karate Kid” in China.
“I was talking with Will and I told him what a great actor Jaden was in ‘Karate Kid,’ he
had beautiful colors,” Shyamalan said. “And he told me, ‘I have this idea,’ and he
pitched this story. I said I’m directing it — and he thought I was kidding. I like a simple
story without the razzle-dazzle, really it’s a personal story. This is an emotional fatherson story.”
An antagonistic one very unlike the really close relationship this father and son have as
the two survive a crash with the dad injured and the son forced to battle aliens and get
rescued.
“Actually, my first draft they were hating each other from beginning to end,” Shyamalan
revealed. “Then we slowly brought it back and now they have the tension relationship.”
Will Smith made the role sound easy: “I was injured so I prepared by just laying around
a lot. I did a lot of eating. Jaden had the hard part.”
“I had four months of training before the movie,” Jaden said. “I gained 20 pounds and
grew four inches taller. I did running, swimming, rowing, lifting, all kinds of training hardcore.”
How different was working with his dad on this outing?
“This time was more of a collaboration,” he said.
“By ‘collaboration’ he means he doesn’t do what I say as much as he used to,” Will
interjected. “That’s a euphemism for collaboration.”
Post-screening, the crowd ventured downtown to Rooftop at the Standard.
Smith Clan’s ‘Fresh’ Party
Saturday, June 1, 2013
An after-party for Will Smith’s critically maligned “After Earth” turned into a DJ Jazzy Jeff
& the Fresh Prince reunion when Smith’s former musical collaborator spun early ’90s
rap, and his co-star from the sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Alfonso Ribeiro
jumped onstage and started “going nuts,” spies said. “Alfonso was getting down to
Michael Jackson. He was doing the robot and the ‘Carlton Banks’ dance [from ‘Fresh
Prince’],” said a witness. While Ribeiro “took his jacket off mid-performance,” Smith and
wife Jada watched from afar, but their son Jaden was at the side of the stage and
looked like he wanted to get in on the act. But “Alfonso was just going for it,” said a
source. Smith, Jazzy, Jaden and Ribeiro recently danced on Graham Norton’s UK
show. But despite the nostalgia trip, Ribeiro said of a reunion of his ’90s NBC show, “I
think people should let that show live in the past . . . we’ll have these fun little reunions
every time we get together.” Smith’s daughter Willow was spotted at the MercedesBenz-sponsored party, exclaiming, “This is so dope!”
Will Power Changes Earth
Friday, May 31, 2013
Scrambled eggs at Will Smith’s (above) house are nothing to yolk about, says writer Gary Whitta.
“After Earth” co-writer Gary Whitta dishes about what it was like to visit Will Smith’s
family compound in Los Angeles before filming with him and his son Jaden. “All the
story development meetings were at Will’s house. He likes to work where he’s
comfortable,” Whitta said at the Mercedes-Benz-hosted premiere at the Ziegfeld
Theatre.
As for the food chez Smith, Whitta said it’s a “very different lifestyle.” “I sit in my
pajamas at my desk all day writing, so being part of the Will Smith universe is almost
like being on a different planet.
“Will has his own chef,” Whitta said. “Our first meeting was a breakfast meeting. I didn’t
want to ask for anything too ostentatious. I just asked for scrambled eggs, and man,
those eggs ... I don’t know where they came from, but they were the best scrambled
eggs I’ve ever had in my life. If I ever get rich, the first thing I’m going to do is hire a
private chef.”
Ansel Elgort Is Not Worried About Committing Fake Incest
with Shailene Woodley
By: Jennifer Vineyard/Thursday, May 30, 2013
If you have not been following the YA book-to-movie news, know that Ansel Elgort has
been cast opposite Shailene Woodley in two high-profile YA adaptations — Divergent,
Veronica Roth's dystopian trilogy, and The Fault in Our Stars, John Green's cancer
romance. The problem: Egort plays Shailene's brother in Divergent and her boyfriend in
The Fault in Our Stars. Vulture has already expressed our discomfort with this movie
incest, so when we spotted Elgort at last night's After Earth premiere hosted by
Mercedes-Benz, we asked how he was feeling about the arrangement. "I think that's the
magic of being an actor," he responded. "You can do that and it's not weird — people
play different roles all the time, you know?" But people don't usually go from brother to
lover in quick succession, we pointed out. "No, not always," Elgort admitted. "I feel like
Shailene is the best actress I ve ever met, who was good enough to read with, and I feel
like I m a pretty good actor, too, so I think it s going to be no problem for us. It ll be
great." So really, no squeamishness at all about this? "Acting is acting. We have
chemistry as brother and sister, but we re both good enough to have chemistry as lovers
as well." Acting is acting. Repeat that to yourself.
Will and Jaden's After Earth Premiere Is a Family Affair
By: Meghan Rooney/Thursday, May 30, 2013
Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith's After Earth premiere was a family affair in NYC
last night. The father-son duo had the support of their loved ones Jada Pinkett Smith,
Willow Smith, and Trey Smith for the star-studded debut. Along with having his siblings
and parents, Jaden's rumored girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, also hit the red carpet, as did 50
Cent, Bruce Willis and his wife, Emma Heming, Spike Lee, and even astronaut Buzz
Aldrin. Jaden's pal Justin Bieber skipped the red carpet, preferring instead to make a
low-key entrance directly into the Zeigfeld Theater. Will and Jaden's futuristic film hits
the big screen tomorrow — find out if you should rush to theaters to see the Smiths after
checking out our After Earth review.
While Jaden's close with Kylie Jenner and her Kardashian relatives, his dad, Will,
doesn't appear to be a fan of Kim and company. When asked about the parallels
between the Kardashians and the Smiths, Will said the families deal with the limelight
differently. He commented, "We are trying to put great things into the world, we're trying
to have fun, and we're trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the
process of doing things we love. So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the
media is sometimes even less than desirable for us."
Will and Jaden Smith attend "After Earth" N.Y. premiere
By: Ken Lombardi/Thursday, May 30, 2013
Will Smith and his son/co-star Jaden Smith were certainly in familiar company
Wednesday night at the New York premiere of their film "After Earth."
Father and son were joined on the red carpet by the rest of their family, including
wife/mother Jada Pinkett Smith, daughter/sister Willow Smith and Trey Smith, Will's 20year-old son from a previous relationship.
DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will's former "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" co-star Alfonso Ribeiro
were also on hand for the premiere.
"After Earth" centers on a pair of father and son space travelers who crash-land on a
now-abandoned Earth. When the father gets injured, Jaden's character must fight to get
them off the planet, which has adapted over the ages to destroy human beings.
The film comes from "Sixth Sense" director M. Night Shyamalan, who's been plagued
over the past several years by a string of cinematic duds like "The Last Airbender" and
"The Happening." It seems this trend has unfortunately continued with "After Earth,"
which currently has just a 13 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Watch video at the top of this story to see Will and Jaden talk about their very different
preparations for this movie.
"After Earth" opens in theaters on Friday.
Smiths Go to NYC!
Friday, May 30, 2013
The entire Smith family — Jaden, Willow, Will, Jada Pinkett and Trey — were en masse for the After
Earth premiere hosted by Mercedes-Benz at the Ziegfeld Theater in NYC May 29.
Will, Jaden And The Entire Smith Family Step Out In Style At
The 'After Earth' NYC Premiere
Thursday, May 30, 2013
There are some seriously good looking Hollywood families out there--the Jolie-Pitt
posse, the Kardashian klan and the Beckham bunch, just to name a few. But after
seeing Will Smith and his kin hit the red carpet last night, we think they deserve the title
of the most stylish family in show biz.
The entire Smith gang--Will, Jada, Willow, Jaden and even Trey, Will's son from his
previous marriage--turned out for the New York City Premiere of "After Earth." While the
film's stars, Will and Jaden, have been making the premiere rounds as a father-son duo
they decided to rally the whole family for the Big Apple festivities.
Will donned a sharp, red 3-piece suit, while 14-year-old Jaden opted for an all-whiteeverything ensemble. Trey also looked dapper in a tailored black suit.
As for the ladies, they didn't disappoint. Jada rocked a floral print Blumarine frock and
strappy Azzedine Alaïa sandals, which awesomely displayed her age-defying figure.
And 12-year-old Willow surprised us with a rather sophisticated (read: normal) look than
we're used to seeing her in. The "Whip My Hair" singer was definitely on-trend in a high
contrast getup and short blunt bangs.
We're not big fans of celebs dressing alike, but this crew did it right by simply keeping
within the same color scheme (black, white and red). Jada also added a splash of pink,
but it all worked perfectly.
The Smiths' sensational style and great genes make them one good lookin' fam!

Alfonso Ribeiro On His Lengthy Friendship With Will Smith &
His Cameo On The Graham Norton Show
Thursday, May 30, 2013
Alfonso Ribeiro joined his old “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” co-star, Will Smith, on stage
last week on Britain’s “The Graham Norton Show,” and it turns out the appearance
came about because the pair have remained friends throughout the years.
“[I’ve known] Will… maybe 24-25 years. Something like that. It’s been a long time,”
Alfonso told Access Hollywood at the New York City premiere of “After Earth,” about his
big screen pal.
“We’ve spent many years working together, hanging together, playing together, you
know, having families together,” Alfonso continued. “[Will is] just a wonderful individual
and we have such a great time whenever we’re together.”
And last week, flying to London to appear alongside Will, Jaden Smith and DJ Jazzy
Jeff covering Will’s hit, “Parents Just Don’t Understand” on that British chat show (where
Alfonso did the Carlton Banks dance), was all in the name of fun.
“He called us up and said, ‘Hey! You want to come to London? Do you want to do this
little thing?’” Alfonso recounted of how it came together.
For fans who haven’t yet viewed “The Graham Norton Show” collaboration, which was
posted to YouTube, the episode is airing tonight at 10/9c on BBC America.
“It was a lot of fun to do,” Alfonso said.
Alfonso started out his own acting career as a child on shows like “Silver Spoons” in the
1980s, and he fully supports Jaden Smith, 14, being in the game.
“I think it’s proper for him to do it. I think this is what he enjoys doing and, you know,
being a [former] child performer myself, I really do feel like what’s most important is that
the kid wants it. And, you know, this is something that Jaden wants to do and this is
something he enjoys doing and he’s so real and so honest with it,” Alfonso said. “And
so, I think it’s great that he is following in his parents’ footsteps.”
Hailey Baldwin, Ireland Baldwin's Cousin, Stuns at After
Earth Premiere With Dad Stephen Baldwin
By: Allison Takeda/Thursday, May 30, 2013
Blonde and beautiful must be in the Baldwin girls' DNA. Alec Baldwin's daughter, 17year-old Ireland, has been making waves (and headlines) as an aspiring model in
recent months -- and now her gorgeous cousin Hailey, also 17, is turning heads on the
red carpet. On Wednesday, May 29, Stephen Baldwin's youngest daughter wowed the
crowd at the Mercedes-Benz hosted New York City premiere of After Earth, starring Will
and Jaden Smith.
Arriving at the Ziegfeld Theater before the movie, the blonde stunner rocked a short,
fitted, black-and-white frock with sky-high nude platform heels. She was accompanied
by her dad -- the youngest of the four Baldwin brothers, behind Alec, Daniel, and
William -- who wore a black suit, blue T-shirt, and dark
sunglasses.
"After Earth is an amazing movie and if you don't go see it there's something wrong with
you. @officialjaden kills it!" Hailey tweeted after the premiere, giving a shout-out to
Jaden Smith.
Jaden, 14, is dating Kylie Jenner, 15, who is a friend of Hailey's. Earlier in the week,
Kylie and Hailey met up with a few other pals for pizza in New York's West Village.
"Day with my girls," Kylie tweeted on Tuesday, May 28, along with a link to a picture of
the stylish group.
Hailey is Stephen Baldwin's daughter with wife Kennya Baldwin, whom he married in
1990. The couple also have an older daughter, Alaia, 20. Both girls are said to be close
with Ireland.
Speaking about their famous family in an interview with Page Six Magazine last
September, Alaia explained the bond between the younger Baldwin cousins. "No matter
how much you think you understand a Baldwin, you really don't unless you are one,"
she said. "Ireland and I pretty sane for Baldwins."

(Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after events forced humanity's escape. With
his father Cypher injured, young Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to summon
help.
The Columbia Pictures writeup states, “One thousand years after cataclysmic events
forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind's new home.
Legendary General Cypher Raige returns from an extended tour of duty to his
estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai. When an asteroid
storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and
dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the
hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing
more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.”
The entire Smith family was present at the premiere including wife Jada Pinkett Smith,
son Trey Smith and daughter Willow Smith, with Jada wearing a lovely peach floral
dress and gladiator sandals, while Willow wore black and white.
Will Smith too made quite a fashion statement in his cardinal red suit, while son Jaden
looked suave in monochrome white.

Movie Premiere: AFTER EARTH
Thursday, May 30, 2013
It was a family affair at the New York red carpet premiere of AFTER EARTH, presented
by Columbia Pictures and Mercedes-Benz. Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, Will Smith and
Jada Smith were joined by Will's son Trey. I guess Trey isn't on the Smith child-star
program.
The reviews for AFTER EARTH are brutal. I just noticed it was an M. Night Shyamalan
film this week, and had planned to see it because of that, but I think I might just save the
$14.
Willow is thirteen going on grown.
M. Night Shyamalan and his wife Bhavna. I feel bad for him, he's such a great filmmaker. Four of his films
are exceptional (THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE, SIGNS, THE VILLAGE - I even loved DEVIL), but
everyone focuses on his bad films. I think Will Smith will get all the blame for AFTER EARTH.
Frequent M. Night collaborator, Bruce Willis and his wife Emma Hemming.
The film's co-star Sophie Okonedo.
Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee flank their children Jackson and Satchel.
Scientologist and former astronaut, Buzz Aldridge and the woman he must of left his wife for.
50 Cent.
Doug E Fresh.
