Electric and Telephone Poles
Applications
• Electric distribution poles.
• Telephone line poles.
• Utility poles for diverse applications in construction, fresh water
pilings and docks.
Regulations
• Our posts comply with Chilean standards NCh2122, NCh819,
ANSI 05.1; American standards AWPA (American Wood Protection
Association) and Arch Wood Protection.
• Poles can be custom made to comply with standards required by
end users.
Advantages
Radiata Pine poles present multiple advantages when compared
to other options.
• Guaranteed durability; the treatment provides total resistance to the
attack of biological agents, resulting in a reliable, long lasting product.
• Wood poles have less transportation and handling costs than
alternative products, as well as less costs derived from machinery
needed for their installation.
• Lightweight and resistant, which facilitates transportation, handling
and installation, especially in hard-to-access locations.
• Our poles do not corrode galvanized hardware. Posts are treated
with a high quality CCA-C preservative with an oxide-based formula.
• Required perforations are made before the treatment process so that
the post is totally protected.
• Greater flexibility under heavy loads, poles recover their initial
position.
• Reliable; poles are good electric insulators and do not pose a threat
to living beings.
• Environmentally friendly; the production of treated wood poles
consumes less energy than the production of alternative posts.
Certifications
• Our Wolmanized® Radiata Pine poles have a 50 year shelf life
guaranteed by Arch Wood Protection / Arch Treatment Technologies
and Wolmanized® Eucalyptus poles have a guaranteed shelf life of up to
25 years.
• As of 2004, Radiata Pine poles in Chile are compliant with regulations
AWPA and ANSI 05.1, as well as compliant with many regulations
and standards throughout the world.

ARAUCO
Production Capacity
ARAUCO has an annual production capacity
of 45,000 cubic meters of posts, manufactured
in a world class mill that uses state of the
art technology in its production and control
processes as well as in its environmental
protection standards.
Mill, Process and Quality
Control
ARAUCO has an annual production capacity of 45,000 cubic meters
of posts. The mill, located near ports in Canteras, Chile’s VIII Region, has
more than 8,500m2 of roofed surface. Its treatment cylinder, which is
automatically controlled, is 24 meters long and 1.8 meters in diameter,
which enables it to reach the demanding standards of Chilean as well
as international regulations. Products are treated with CCA-C, an
oxide-based preservative, using the Bethell process, commonly known
as full cell or vacuum & pressure process.
One of ARAUCO’s advantages is chamber drying the posts before
the treatment process, to ensure quality treatment and timely deliveries.
This drying process takes place in nine chambers that have modern
automatic systems that control the drying programs. These chambers
are powered by steam generated in the boilers, which are powered
by biomass produced during the manufacturing process of the posts.
The Canteras mill complies with all regulations and company
requirements in terms of workers’ health and safety as well as the
environment, going beyond what is required by law. For example, after
the wood is treated with CCA-C, posts are left to stand under cover
for at least 24 hours, and depending on atmospheric conditions, are
subject to a thermal process lasting 12 hours that accelerates the
chemical fixation to avoid solution loss from the wood and subsequent
contamination.
To ensure product quality, the mill has a state of the art laboratory that
controls the treatment process, chemical inputs, and the preservative’s
penetration and retention in the wood. This enables the treatment
process to be fully monitored, and products can be assessed for
compliance with the regulations under which they were manufactured.
In addition, the process and treatment is permanently controlled and
certified by Fundación Chile, since 1994.
Our mill is certified to the following standards: ISO 14.001, CERTFOR
CoC, CERTFOR SMFS, CoC y CW FSC y OHSAS 18.001.

X-ray fluorescence equipment
