MEALS ON WHEELS OF SAN FRANCISCO
OUR MISSION
Meals On Wheels of San Francisco and its volunteers provide seniors what they need to live independent and dignified
lives — nutritious meals, professional social work and friendly human contact.
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1970, MOWSF is a local, independent non-profit organization. We work to alleviate the food insecurity and
loneliness experienced by seniors who want to stay in their own homes but cannot shop or prepare meals for themselves.
WHO WE SERVE
Our services are geared towards those with the greatest physical, social and economic need. The seniors we serve are frail,
have limited ability to purchase or prepare meals and have little or no support from family or caregivers. They are also often
physically challenged, as well as confronted with the high costs of living in San Francisco on a limited income.
OUR SERVICES
Home-Delivered Meals. We serve more than 1.4 million meals a year to seniors in every San Francisco neighborhood.
Our staff drivers deliver hot and frozen meals, along with fresh packed lunches to more than 2,200 seniors each week
Safety Checks. We look out for clients’ well-being and safety and alert emergency contacts or services when a client is
injured or fails to answer the door.
Nutrition Counseling. Our registered dietitians perform more than 1,900 hours of nutrition counseling each year.
Social Work. Our professional staff conducts regular home visits, help connect seniors to other social services and
provides case management when needed.
Volunteer Programs. We match volunteers with local seniors to offer companionship, battle isolation and offer
assistance with grocery shopping, home repairs, home cleaning and more.
Home Safety and Urgent Needs. We provide health and safety items like grab bars, smoke detectors, microwaves and
refrigerators.
