morning. So there is no need to arrive too
early.
How many suitcases can I bring?
How many suitcases can I bring? :
You are not going to sail around the world! All you need is the
correct clothing for the season and the region. Do not forget the
indispensable tennis shoes as high heels and city shoes are not
good for the boat’s surfaces.. Avoid suitcases and preferably
bring soft bags as there is not much storage room on board.
Check before boarding that you haven’t forgotten your card
games, camera, binoculars and torch. As you can see you don’t
need much. FPP Travel boats are fully equipped. Read the
inventory list at home before leaving (See page 50).

Nivernais ‐ Morvan
You’ll believe you’re in a dream if you choose to cruise along
the Nivernais canals, probably one of the most beauful
canals in France. The Nivernais canal connects the Loire basin
to that of the Seine while travelling through the beaufully
preserved Morvan regional natural Park. Steeped in history and
tradion, this canal, built at the end of the 18th century, will bring
to the life the story of mber transport from Morvan to Paris.

Canal du Midi
Carcassonne ‐ Homps ‐ Agde
Enjoy a sun lit cruise and discover the “canal des deux mers” built
by Baron Riquet (1604‐1680). The canal du Midi is listed by UNESCO
as a world heritage site and everything is untouched, from its round
and oval locks to its arched bridges in romanesque style.
From Agde, a famous lile fishing town or from Homps, surrounded
by the Minervois vineyards, the canal lazily meanders through a
romanc landscape, full of a thousand Mediterranean fragrances.
Your cruise will be a never‐ending delight under the sunshine which
filters through the trees, among the shimmering tones of the
flowers and the chirp of crickets and grasshoppers. You will enjoy
being with your family or friends, walking or riding on tow‐paths,
stopping at historic or gastronomic localies, totally losing track of
me. These are the memories and images that we hope you will
keep from your cruise on the Canal du Midi.

Carnon
Between land and water, Camargue is a wonderful desnaon where you can
have a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Being on a canal boat is, in that case, the
perfect place to be. You can easily reach a beach on foot or on your bicycle to
have a break near the Mediterranean Sea or to discover the wild side of the
Camargue:
It’s a marshy land, with a large expanse of natural parklands and a magnificent
Wild Bird preserve. There you can observe: pink flamingos, black bulls, wild
horses and over 350 different species of wild birds.
‐ Be ready for adventure and experience real marime cruising on the Etang de
Thau! There are many friendly harbours such as Marseillan, Bouzigues, Mèze
or Frongnan to visit.
Do not miss the cultural oddies of:
‐ Aigues‐Mortes, a medieval city whose history is linked to the kings of France.
This town is protected by a 1640‐meter‐long rampart.
‐ Béziers, located in the Cathare land that you can cross if you cruise towards
the Canal du Midi.

lagoon, ideally twinned with Chioggia for its thriving fishing industry. The base
is only 300m from the historical centre on an island connected to the mainland
by two bridges, one for vehicles and one for pedestrians.

Ready for adventure
Let’s go! You are ready for adventure… but
you are no seaman and you have perhaps
never even approached a boat. Do not
worry, steering a boat is quite simple and
we will show you the different controls,
how to manoeuvre, to steer, to lock
through and to moor the boat safely. You’ll
see, it’s easy! The boat steers with 2
controls: a single lever, to go forwards or
backwards and a wheel. That’s it.
Locking through is simple and not
dangerous as long as you respect a few
elementary rules.
Generally everything is under the control
Tarpon 49
“Steering a boat is quite simple;
just follow a few elementary rules”
of a lock keeper who will appreciate a
helping hand from a crew member to
handle the lock doors and sluices when
these are not automatically operated.
You can see during your cruise a wide
variety of water birds such as grey herons,
black kites, egrets, wild ducks, kingfishers
and wagtails.
golden rule: they always have the right of
way. Anglers do not generally appreciate
holidaymakers, but if you leave enough
room between the bank and the boat, and
travel slowly you can always try to make
new friends by asking: “any bites?"
You can also meet different kind of
people, from barge people to anglers. The
Barge people, whom you do not often
come across, navigate along the river and
canals to earn their living.. So there is one
Happiness is on the water
You will cruise at an average speed of
6km/hour. These holidays will give the
chance to “slow down” and change your
lifestyle by watching the beautiful
landscape flew by you from your unique
view abroad the boat.
You are free to moor wherever you want
to, in the heart of a town, close to a village
or in the middle of nowhere.
What about gastronomy? There are small
or famous restaurants that each region is
proud of, where you can taste local wine
or “grand cru” and “cuisine traditonnelle”
or “grande cuisine”. In summertime, you
can take part in festivities in different
villages.
You can also practice your favourite sport:
golf, tennis, horse riding, cycling or
swimming for a day or two and a tow path
can be an ideal place for a quiet daily jog.

The boat that you choose and hire will be
your “home” during your cruise. Therefore
it is important to make the right choice. All
our boats offer a minimum standard of
comfort such as running hot and cold
water, shower, toilet, kitchen and heating.
The amount of equipment depends on the
type of boat.
The sleeping capacity which is a major
factor in determining your choice is
indicated by the number written before the
word “people”.
For example: 6/8 + 1 PEOPLE: the first
number is for the sleeping capacity without
using the lounge. Then the third number is
for an additional berth for a child under 6
(it is often a raised bunk in a cabin).
To help you to choose your boat, we have classed our fleet according to :
‐ the services
‐ the level of comfort on board : the buoys
‐ the size : the different categories
1m
6
4
It is never recommended to use the
maximum sleeping capacity. The comfort
on board is in that case reduced and the
equipment is generally (fridge, toilets and
shower) not enough for one week.
This sign gives you an idea of the ideal
number of people on board
for the highest level of comfort.

The BUDGET fleet : This fleet allows you to discover canal boating thanks to its low price. The boats are often older with a
more basic level of interior fittings. Bedding is included (blanket, sheets, pillow case and pillow). Towels and kitchen cloths
can be hired at the departure base. A cleaning set is also on sale at the base (see price list). For a minimum price, you can use the
maximum legal capacity of the boat by putting a tent on the roof to sleep two people!
BU
D GET
THE BUOYS
A number of buoys have been given to each boat according to the comfort on board :
1 buoy is for the simpler and older boats with a very good
price referring to the number of people on board.
2 buoys are for the more functional boats with a good
price / life on board comfort ratio.
3 buoys are for the boats which offer a more comfortable lifestyle and
which generally have a second steering position (flying bridge).
4 buoys are for the boats which are very comfortable and re‐
cently built. They have additional fittings for increased comfort
and all have a second steering position (flying bridge).
« Plus » These boats are at the top of the classification with
outstanding features.
THE CATEGORIES
Our categories, ranging from 1 to 6, correspond to the size of the boats.
The category of the boat is used to determinate the security deposit, the hourly
navigation rate, the final cleaning of the boat at the end of the cruise, the Cruise
Plus insurance (damage waiver) and the all inclusive cruise package.

USEFUL GUIDE
LIFE ON BOARD
Pet
They are welcome aboard. However, you will be responsible
for their behaviour. At some bases, an additional fee may be
charged.
Package and cleaning deposit
The option “final cleaning” allows you to free yourself from
cleaning the boat (inside and / or outside) upon return. If you
do not choose this option, a cleaning deposit will be required
upon boarding. Order the final cleaning when you reserve your
rental to automatically receive a 25% discount on the amount
of the cleaning deposit.
Car transfer
In the case of a one‐way cruise, you will be offered on certain bases,
the transfer of your car from the departure base to the arrival base. Fee
varies according to routes. It is best to book this service in advance. In
some places, shuttle bus, taxi or train can be a possibility.
Car park ‐ Garage
Free parking of your vehicle will be possible in many bases. It is
often possible to get locked but uncovered car parking or a garage
(an additional charge is requested).
FPP hamper
All our bases are located near shopping centres where you can do
your shopping before your departure. However, if you wish, you can
order a hamper when booking. It includes an assortment of basic
products such as salt, pepper, sugar, condiments, bread, water,
vinegar, coffee, tea, milk, yoghurt, salad, eggs, pasta... Ask your travel
agent for a complete list of conditions. (On some bases only).
Baby Set
It includes a high chair, a bathtub, a folding cot and a life jacket and in
the case of renting a bicycle, a child seat. Attention : most of the time,
the cot can only be installed in the lounge. This set will be at your dis‐
posal to make life aboard more pleasant for parents and baby. Do not
forget to ask when booking. It is free wherever it is offered.
Waterway map
All boats are equipped with a manual offering a number of navigational
hints and details. However, if you want to prepare your cruise, you can
order a waterway map when booking. There is a map for each
waterway. Attention : on certain routes two maps may be necessary.
Hourly navigation rate
Initially, the fuel tank is full. You will be billed on your return at a
hourly navigation rate. This rate is different depending on the type
of boat and the number of hours navigated. It covers the
consumption of oil, fuel, etc ... Count about 30 hours of navigation
per week. The price of this rate may change with the price of fuel.
On some bases, you can purchase an “hourly navigation rate”
package before departure, regardless of the number of
hours done.
INSURANCE
Locks
Strong winds
The locking through is free in France. The locks are normally open
daily from 9 am to 7 pm, sometimes more. On some routes, there
are restrictions like Easter Sunday, 1 May, 14 July and 1 November
or different schedules depending on the season.
Ask your travel agent.
Navigation on the Etang de Thau, in the Camargue, on lakes in
Germany, including Müritzsee and Plauersee is made more difficult
by strong winds, and demands all the vigilance of the driver. In
wind of over 4 Beaufort, we ask you to moor in a port and wait for
the wind to drop. In the case of the Etang de Thau, the one‐way
trip between the Canal du Rhône à Sète and the Canal du Midi may
be cancelled due to climatic conditions.
Floods and drought
Some rivers and some canals are subject to flooding or water
shortages, mainly in spring and autumn. These events may
force us to move the place of departure and you will then
cruise on another waterway. In all cases, changes to the point
of departure or the proposed circuit do not constitute as
grounds for cancellation or refunds.
For customers who do not have a licence a temporary card will
be issued for the duration of stay after we have shown you
how to operate the boat. As for the handling of the boat, do
not worry, it is fairly simple and each team on the bases will
take the time necessary to show how different equipment
works and to teach the driving and mooring manoeuvres.
Energy
Fishing rod
The boats are not energy independent. There are essentially
three sources :
• The gas supplied by bottles supplying refrigerators (in some
cases) and heaters, cooking plates, ovens.
• The electricity is very often 12 volts or 24 volts and is stored
in batteries, which supply some refrigerators, lighting and
ventilation, and in some cases 220 volts, air conditioning,
dishwasher, etc…
• The engine, which produces heat for hot water and, due to
a generator, produces the electricity stored in batteries.
Energy is scarce, and despite all the tricks used by boat builders, it
cannot be used without restraint or provide the same comfort as
in a house. It is therefore necessary to know :
• That the engines must run at least 4 to 5 hours per day to
produce electricity for use over 24 hours.
• That the gas refrigerators (standard camping gas) are less
effective in high external heat and should not be overloaded,
the door must be opened as infrequently as possible.

when connected to the shore supply.

Technical assistance

mechanics can sometimes be whimsy. In case of breakdown,
a technical assistance is available 7 days a week.
TO READ CAREFULLY
bow thruster
Some boats on some bases are equipped with a bow
propeller. This is a propeller placed in the bow of the boat
which allows steering the bow laterally. This greatly
facilitates manoeuvres. However, its use is mainly sensitive
in canals in which the risk of aspiration of mud and rocks
along the bank is important. In case of breakdown during
the cruise, it is often impossible to repair. In this case, the
stay will end without a bow thruster. If the customer
requires repair during the stay, it will be billed to him. Due
to the vagaries of navigation, it is possible that the boat
with bow thruster that you reserved is not available the day
of departure. In this case, it will be deducted on the basis
of a fixed amount (maximum 10 euros per day).
Beds
‐ There is no standard length and width of berth for boats.
The average length is 1.90m but in some cases may be
limited to 1.83m.
‐ Double berths : they are on average 1.40m wide, but can
be reduced to 1.15m
‐ Berths simple : they are on average 0, 80m, but in some
cases they can be reduced down to 0.65m.
‐ Convertible seat in lounge or dinette.
Heating and air conditioning
‐ All boats are equipped with forced air heating. This is an
element of comfort to warm up the inside of the boat.
However, it does not maintain a constant temperature.
‐ Air conditioning : This option, often limited to the lounge is
an element of comfort that can cool the atmosphere by se‐
veral degrees, 2 or 3 maximum, rather than maintain
constant temperature, whatever the outside temperature.
‐ The Tarpon 49 Quattro Prestige, Tarpon 42 Trio Prestige and
Tarpon 37 Duo Prestige have air conditioning in the lounge.
