The world has certainly changed dramatically in the twenty-six years since SKB molded
it's first guitar case. Recent global developments have given rise to many concerns for
airline travellers. These concerns are especially intense when it comes to the travelling
musician. After all, musicians aren't just carrying suitcases, souvenirs and replaceable
laptops and cameras, they have a profound emotional attachment to the cargo that
they are trusting to the airline handlers. "It's like piling a member of your family into the
belly of a jumbo jet!" - That's how one SKB endorser described handing over his
vintage guitar.

SKB-18RW
The remarkable SKB-18RW acoustic guitar
case was engineered to withstand all the
rigors of a professional travel schedule. Every
detail of this case design contributes to its
ultimate function - instrument protection.
The
engineering
team at SKB is focused
on these very issues. Here's the latest
example- A rotationally molded, rolling BASS SAFE
that introduces a brand new concept in loading technique. Your
bass is inserted, Gig Bag and all, into this indestructibe shell, the two halves
slide together, quick latch, padlock if you desire, then tip up and roll away. This is the
beginning of a revolution in instrument travel protection.
"So confident are the SKB
designers, engineers and
manufacturing experts that this
case will perform beyond any
stated or implied standard, that
the SKB Corporation is taking
security to a new level."
ANY AIRLINE RELATED DAMAGE TO AN
ACOUSTIC GUITAR BEING SHIPPED IN AN
SKB-18RW CASE WILL BE COVERED UP TO
$1500.00 BY SKB CORPORATION IN
ORANGE, CALIFORNIA.
Acoustic guitar model must be a proper fit for the
SKB-18RW case. SKB repair claims will be processed after initial
airline damage reports have been filed and a qualified guitar repair
technician submits a written repair estimate. Repair claims will be
issued only to original case owner.
A New Generation
of SKB Gig Rigs
makes Life on the
Road even Easier
®
Much more
than just a great
new look, the
2003 Gig Rig®
family is worth
a test drive.
When it comes to companies trying to market their products
certain words become overused, worn out and ultimately
meaningless. The term 'ergonomic' is a prime example. When
companies refer to the ergonomic design of a hamburger
wrapper it kind of dilutes the science. SKB is proud to introduce
a product update that will re-establish the very definition of
ergonomics. The newly designed family of SKB's popular Gig
Rigs® is all about comfort. Every detail has been carefully reevaluated in an effort to make standard movements and
operations as smooth and hassle-free as possible. Handles are
shaped and grooved for grip with more room between handle
and case body. Closures are more substantial, easier to
operate and positioned more conveniently. Components like
the lids, front panel and much larger rear access panel lift apart
and re-assemble more easily. Same
10u / 10u space configuration on
the full size Gig Rig® and 10u / 6u
on the Mini Gig Rig®, heavy-duty
casters available for either
model and both can
hitch a ride aboard
the SKB Roto Roller,
to add an extra six
rack spaces or a
convenient storage
unit on wheels.

Shocking Developments in the Works
New SKB Elastomeric Shock Mount Systems are being
Developed for Heavy-Duty AVM and Industrial Applications.
SKB shockracks in sizes 4sp. (7" rackable depth) 10 sp. (17.50" rackable depth) come
standard with 8 ea. PN: HM-245 mounts, one in ea. corner. The recommended load for
this configuration is 20 lbs. – 49lbs.
For weight ranges from 50# - 99#, an additional set of 8 shocks can be field installed
(approx. install time: 15 min.) and are available for $24.00/set from the factory.
Shockracks in sizes 12 sp. (21” rackable depth) – 18 sp. (31.50" rackable depth) come
standard with 16 ea. PN: HM-245 mounts, two in ea. corner.
For weights 100# and above, please contact the factory for information on available custom mounts.
Caster System: SKB shockracks come standard with a high quality slide in/out
locking 4" diameter locking caster system, rated at 1,200 lbs. (Our competitor lists this as
a $350.00 option.)
Steel Racks: SKB shockracks employ heat treated threaded steel rack rails, front and
back. (Our competitor uses threaded aluminum.)
Plug Sealing System: SKB shockracks employ a unique plug sealing system. The
lids penetrate the body with a 3/4" molded-in protrusion that provides both outstanding
sealing properties and anti-shear properties.
Compound Hinge System: SKB shockracks utilize a unique patent pending
compound hinge system that allows the lids to swing out, around, and rest conveniently
along the sides of the case. If desired, they can be easily removed and reinstalled in
seconds.
New SKB Elastomeric Shock Mount
Systems are also being utilized in a
new line of roto shock racks soon to
be released - stay tuned.
