and Pavao have recorded the results of the findings on this unique new album.
Though George Gershwin was a prolific writer, not all of his tunes became standards. This collection,
including songs never before recorded in this country, shows there are still Gershwin gems waiting to be
discovered. This is a collection of just 12 of these fascinating songs, brought to life for a contemporary
audience by "George Clooney's singing waitress" Victoria Hart and the Brit nominated string quartet
Pavao. Guests include Russell "The Voice" Watson, Revelation (stars of "The Last Choir Standing" TV
Show), critically acclaimed jazz artist Atila and MOBO nominee Tony Kofi.
The arrangements and style mark a new departure for 19 year old Hart, whose brand of "swing pop" has

Ten years and five acclaimed albums into one of the most uncompromising careers in American music,
the singer/songwriter whose work has been compared to Prine, Cash and Nebraska-era Springsteen
by some the toughest music writers in America may have finally conquered his most demanding critic
of all: himself.
“Right now, this is my favourite record,” Chris Knight says of his new album. “It might just be my
best. For some reason, there’s a cohesiveness here that’s not like anything I’ve done before. But at
the same time, it’s not real predictable. There’s a lot of texture to it as well, but it’s a simple record. I
don’t know how that happened. But I know it when I hear it.”
Knight has always been an artist of fierce instinct and uncommon paradox. A former strip-mine
reclamation inspector, Knight still lives in the rural coal town of Slaghters, Kentucky (population 200)
where he was born and raised. But it’s been on record – as well as everywhere from rowdy Texas
roadhouses to hushed New York City theaters – where Chris has forged the reputation for a stark and
often-ferocious honesty that led one writer to call his music “where Cormac McCarthy meets
Copperhead Road.”
Produced by Dan Baird (of Georgia Satellites fame, as well as producer of Knight’s widely-praised A
Pretty Good Guy and The Jealous Kind discs), the 12 songs represent a creative maturity unlike
anything Knight has done before. The music itself is a richly organic sonic mosaic where snarling
guitars and pounding drums live alongside mournful violas, plucky banjos, B-3 organ and even the
occasional trombone and bouzouki. And for an artist known for his narratives about busted lives and
broken dreams, Knight’s new songs now carry a hard-fought wisdom that gives his characters deeper
seams of pain, pride and ultimately, hope.
"They’re all pretty hard-nosed songs,” Chris admits. “But it’s as unified as collection as I’ve ever
recorded. People may not always agree with the attitude of my music, but my point of view has
always been pretty clear. With this album, it’s probably more visible. I want to be able to stand on
stage singing these songs and have people believe that what I’m saying is the way that I feel.”

In the 1940s and early '50s a young girl called Eve Young was making waves in the UK, charting with
some big hits. Across the pond in America there was a young singing sensation also taking the charts
by storm called Karen Chandler. Unknown to most people, the two apparently different hit-makers
were one and the same person. (Born Eva Nadauld in Idaho, she performed and recorded as Eve
Young from 1946 to 1951 and as Karen Chandler from 1952 onwards). This compilation features her
two UK No. 1 songs, “If I Knew You Were Comin’ I’d’ve Baked A Cake” and “Silver Dollar”, and the

This collection looks at our western society through the eyes of some observant Canadian songwriters
as we struggle through the first decade of this new millennium.
These songs will take you on a musical journey that will make you angry, make you laugh, make you
stop and think. They follow in the tradition of the broadside ballads that have been sung since the
16th century. Originally broadsides were printed on one side of a piece of paper and only included the
lyrics with the name of a popular tune below the title. The subject matter was most often in the form
of a complaint against the crown or some other repressive authority. Broadsides were posted on walls,
in town squares, or in pubs for all to see and learn. This album contains some modern day
“complaints” including the misuse of natural resources, the absurdity of war, and the excesses of our
contemporary society, among others. We hope some folks might want to learn one of them too.

A compilation featuring an incredibly wide assemblage of musicians, most of whom, although likely
unknown to listeners, have not only been influenced by the Mahavishnu Orchestra but have gone on
to create spectacular and unique music that ventures far beyond that of their mentors - some of the
new material is equally compelling.
The Mahavishnu Orchestra, considered by many to be the greatest Jazz-fusion group of all time, was
formed in late 1970-early 1971 by John McLaughlin, a brilliant guitarist with a jazz-rock pedigree that
included work with the Graham Bond Organisation in the mid-60s, and with the electrified Miles Davis
on his landmark "Bitches Brew" LP in 1969. Their musical style was an unprecedented blending of
genres, combining high-volume electrified rock with complex rhythms in unusual time signatures, an
improvisational concept that was rooted in jazz as well as Indian music, and harmonic influence from
European classical music.

ability. The trio’s contribution to jazz vocal cannot be underestimated and their vocal gymnastics

Count Basie’s “New Testament” band with the vocalese practitioners Lambert, Hendricks and Ross

Tagged as a bluesrock jam band, this Dutch trio are Seán Walsh (vocals, guitar, harmonica, kazoo),
Kai Liebrand (bass, Hammond organ, church organ, accordion, backing vocals) and Edwin van der
Burgt (drums, glockenspiel, percussion). Along with a guest synth player and, on one track, an 8-piece
brass band, they cut this album more or less off the cuff at Velvet Overlook studios (except for the
church organ!) in their hometown of Tilburg.
"We entered the studio pretty much without any preparation," van der Burgt explains. "We've also
used extraordinary instruments while at the same time trying to push the studio envelop to its limits,"
Liebrand adds. Seán Walsh sums up, "If you really have to rely for an extended period of time on your
fellow band members, a lot of new issues come into play. We did anything we could to catch that
great vibe on tape. Dazzling but hard!"
In the result, a reviewer has said, "One smells the scent of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Who, a
whiff of psychedelics, but also the raw tang of Rory Gallagher."

Despite the title, this ambitious project was originally released as a double LP in 1969, the fifth album
by the New York folk/rock singer-songwriter and his third for MGM's Verve Forecast label. Divided
almost equally between originals and covers, and combining 12 studio tracks with five live recordings
taken from a July 1968 concert, the music has the moving and melancholy vibe, yet also somewhat
rambling feel, typical of Havens in his prime. Two of the live cuts, "Run Shaker Life" and "Do You Feel
Good?", present a more exuberant and very lively context. It wasn't too long after the release of this
album that Haven's opening performance at the historic Woodstock festival brought him to worlwide
attention.

Following on from the compilation ‘African Scream Contest - Raw & Psychedelic
Afro Sounds from Benin & Togo 70s’ - which featured several tracks by Orchestre
Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, including the ground-breaking “Gbeti Madjro”.
Arguably West Africa’s best-kept secret, the band's output both in quantity and
quality was astonishing. During several trips to Benin Analog Africa label boss
Samy Ben Redjeb managed to collect roughly 500 songs which Orchestre PolyRythmo de Cotonou had recorded between 1970 and 1983. With so much
material to choose from Ben Redjeb decided to split it into Volumes 1 and 2.
While Volume 2 will be material the band recorded under an exclusive contract
with the label Albarika Store, the band also “secretly” recorded with an array of
smaller labels based around Cotonou, Benin’s largest city, and the capital city of
Porto Novo. It is those tracks (all officially licensed) that are presented here on
Volume 1.
The cultural and spiritual riches of traditional Beninese music had an immense
impact on the sound of Benin’s modern music. Benin is the birthplace of the
Vodun religion (also Vodoun, or, as it is known in the West, Voodoo) and involves
the worship of some 250 sacred divinities. The rituals used to pay tributes to
those divinities are always backed by music.
This fourth Analog Africa release of forgotten musical gems from 70s Africa
includes a 44 page booklet, full of rare photographs and record covers and
introduces three important producers who were collectively responsible for some
of the most amazing music released in Benin.

Beautifully packaged CD & DVD which includes a 26' minute documentary.
The original recording of Gambari 79 was made at a Bara Sambarou village concert in 1979. There are
at least 30 recorded versions of this song played by Bara over the years, which circulate the cassette
stalls at street markets across Mali, but this version is truly magical and, as is so often the case in
music, it would have been impossible to recreate that magic today. The original master is an old TDK
cassette tape recorded on a ghetto blaster. In Rio, Kassin (producer of Orquestra Imperial, + 2,
Caetano Veloso and many more) did a superb restoration job, sharpening up the sound and rendering
the mono original into stereo.
Bara Sambarou was born in 1946 into a griot family in Konsa, a village located 60 kilometers from
Mopti, one of Mali's biggest cities and a major centre for the Peul people. During the 70s Bara
Samarou's name spread all over Mali through sales of his cassettes, he was also praise his talent for
playing the Hoddou, the ancestral 4 string wooden lute which is the emblematic instrument of the
Peul people.
