und fantasievoll angerichteten Tintenfisch. Dafür muss
man eine etwas weitere Anfahrt in Kauf nehmen.
At the end of the fifties, Pritzker prize-winner Álvaro
Siza Vieira designed a teahouse beside the sea, which later
stood empty for years until star chef Rui Paula took it over
and had it immaculately renovated. Guests now sit up on
the cliff top feasting on the astounding fish dishes cooked
by chef Rui. These include squid prepared in a variety of
textures and served in such an imaginative way that it
makes the fairly long drive out here well worth the effort.

­neoclassical hall whose wrought-iron structure has been
protected as a historical monument since 2006. It’s an
ideal place to buy marvellous fruit, fish, vegetables,
bread, wine and tasty ­Portuguese cheese. Small food stalls
serve simple dishes which include fish that was still swim­
ming in the Atlantic the night before. At the wine bar, a
number of wines and ports are available for customers to

Der innerstädtische Eisenbahnhof ist seit
1916 in Betrieb, das Monumentalgebäude wurde nach
einem Entwurf von José Marques da Silva errichtet.
Richtig toll ist allerdings die mit Azulejos gekachelte Vorhalle. Die vom Künstler Jorge Colaçao gestalteten Kacheln stellen unter anderem Infante Dom Henrique bei
der Eroberung Ceutas dar, aber auch die Hochzeit König
Joãos I. mit Filipa de Lencastre. Sehr beeindruckend!
This historical railway station at the heart of the city
has been in operation since 1916. The huge building was
designed by José Marques da Silva and its vestibule is
decorated with imposing azulejo tiles that are the work of
artist Jorge Colaçao. The historical scenes depicted on
the tiled panels include the Infante Dom Henrique at the
conquest of Ceuta and the wedding of King João I to
Philippa of Lancaster. All incredibly impressive!

Abend mit dem Symphonieorchester von Porto
im 21 Meter hohen, mit
Pinienholz und Gold
verkleideten Konzertsaal
zu gönnen.

every Porto resident would like to live. It has not only a
long seaside promenade with cool beach bars, but also a
host of attractive stores along Avenida do Brasil and in
the tree­lined streets behind. For instance Vicri with its
flamboyant Portuguese menswear and the Dress Up Store
with its vintage couture, handbags and jewellery. Popular
dining spots are Terra, Cafeína and Casa Vasco, all of
which are on Rua do Padrão.
