CLEAN DIRT
CELEBRATE MAC
JULY 4TH
SPECTACULAR IS
BACK!
Article by: Nathan Knottingham
Celebrate Mac July 4th Spectacular is on Monday, July 4th at
Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum from 5pm-10:30pm
located at 500 NE Captain King Smith Way, McMinnville,
OR 97128. Parking will be detailed on the grounds of the
museum and around town for shuttle drop off spots (We
highly encourage you to RIDE THE SHUTTLE). The museum
will be open all evening, starting at 5pm entrance will only
be $5 for full museum entrance (that gets you into BOTH
museums!) and closing about 9pm as dusk settles.
Beyond that, there will be a huge community-gathering
place for festival favorite food items for sale, merchant
booths, and community program booths, family fun
entertainment booths, and a main stage. On the main
stage, at dusk, the American Legion will lead the posting of
the colors following with the fireworks show that will begin
at around 9:30pm.
Speaking of fireworks, Western Display Fireworks is the
selected vendor for the fireworks show. We are working
closely with them to bring an amazing show to the area,
and are told that our show is going to be bigger than
anything they have been hired to produce in the last 10
years (even bigger than Portland!). Last year the show
lasted just at 30 minutes and was pretty memorable. This
year we’ve made a couple changes to the setup, ordered
some BIGGER firework mortars, and expect the show to last
35 – 40 minutes!
We would like to thank our sponsors for helping make this
community event possible!
TITLE SPONSOR:
June 2016
PRESENTING SPONSORS:
When I was managing for a large corporate coffee company
we used to do “Clean Dirt Tours.” Store managers would get
into groups of 3 or 4 and spend a day touring each other’s
store. We would take notes, talk to partners, and look for
all the areas that we would normally walk past and not see
in the day to day.
Clean dirt can be hard to find. It is the little things that you
walk by every day and either don’t notice or think “I need to
fix that” only to set your stuff down and start dealing with
the bigger issues facing you and your business right away.
Squeaky doors or squeaky floors; smudges on windows and
walls; a crooked picture, a saggy spider web, a task small
task left undone, this is all the Clean Dirt we pass daily.
As staff and I work on the pending transition for the arrival of
the new President/CEO my “Clean-Dirt-O-Meter” got reset
and I find myself noticing little stuff about the building,
the office, this file or that thing. Sometimes I feel a bit
embarrassed thinking that why couldn’t I have caught this
three years ago and fixed it then?
This is the same phenomena as when you might go to sell
a house or a car. A little thing that you knew you always
wanted to change or fix suddenly gets done because you’re
going to put the item out to market. And when it’s done
you kick yourself for 2 reasons: 1) That was not hard or
expensive to do why did you wait so long? 2) Now that it’s
done you rather like it and are proud of the work you did.
Maybe I’m alone in this, but I’m rather sure I’m not. So as
I get out my “Clean-Dirt-O-Meter” and continue doing those
little things that make a big difference I encourage you to
do the same. Make a list in your office of Clean Dirt, start
conquering those one at a time, and you will love the way
you feel.
People will also notice either outwardly or at least
subconsciously because you will project more pride in your
business and they, along with your staff, will catch it.
Now go forth and clean!

Retired from the publication business and worked for the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post for 24 years. Moved to
McMinnville in 1999 and was hired as a Production Manager for the News Register. I worked for the Bladine family for 8 years and
decided to call it quits in 2008 and fully retire from the Newspaper Industry. I am an accomplished ballroom dancer and have
instructed and competed. I hold classes at the McMinnville Ballroom and a few establishments around McMinnville.
I own a turn of the century craftsman home between 5th and 6th on Galloway Street, a perfect location for a B&B/vacation rental.
I enjoy hosting visitors who want to experience McMinnville and wine country. Yamhill Valley is ripe for the tourist industry.
I have also recently purchased a home in Arizona and am now officially a Snow Bird.
I joined the Chamber of Commerce because I feel it is important to connect with other businesses as we all have the same goals
in mind, and that is to make McMinnville a great place to live and do business.

Country Criiters Pet
Sitters Warns Local Pet
Owners: A Hot Automobile
is a Threat to Your Pet
With summer quickly approaching,
Leanna Gautney, owner of Country
Critters Pet Sitters, wants to educate
local pet owners on the dangers of
leaving pets in a hot car, even for just a
few moments.
“Some pet owners do not realize that even if they crack
the windows or leave their automobiles running with the air
conditioner on, temperatures inside vehicles can still become
dangerously hot very quickly,” explains Gautney. “These
temperatures put pets at risk of illness, or even death.”
Gautney is a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI), the
world’s largest educational association for professional
pet sitters, and has joined fellow PSI members around the
globe in donating heat warning window/door clings for local
businesses to display inside the glass windows or doors of their
establishment, to remind patrons that leaving pets in their
vehicles is not a safe idea.
“I’m honored to play a part in educating local pet owners on
the dangers of leaving their pets in hot cars,” says Gautney.
“And, I’m thankful for the many local business owners who
have been willing to display the heat warning window/door
cling.”

WE ARE GETTING READY FOR SUMMER!
MEDP is gearing up for the 2016 McMinnville WORKS with the arrival of our intern – Lacey
Dykgraaf. A recent Linfield graduate, Lacey joins our team this May to manage our McMinnville
WORKS Summer Internship Program. The 2016 Summer program has 16 host companies and 21
interns on board.
“I'm excited to start at the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership because I will be able
to learn about the companies that help make McMinnville the place it is,” stated Lacey.
Lacey will be orchestrating their weekly Professional Development Workshops and managing marketing and programming for the WORKS Internship Program. Lacey has been VP of Programming
for the ASLC at Linfield and also held a spring internship at local marketing agency, Suite 4 Social.
“Through the course of my internship I hope to learn about how the companies in McMinnville operate, the benefits of doing
business in McMinnville, and about the stories of the owners of the different companies. I also hope to engage with the other
interns placed throughout the program to learn more about their experiences and to help them maintain good business practices through lectures and workshops. One of the components of my internship I look forward to the most, is creating something that can represent what the summer internship program is about and who the summer interns are serving.”
Join us in welcoming Lacey to our office.
