KK’s Message
Congratulations MK Philippines on your 7th Anniversary. It is a great pleasure to see you grow in both depth and
in height. You have grown roots in not only embracing the Mary Kay culture, practicing the Mary Kay culture but
also in spreading the Mary Kay Culture in the Philippines. You have grown to great heights, not only in Sales,
Beauty Consultant counts but also Directors count. You are a healthy pink tree, providing shades to many and
producing fruits for many. I am so very proud of you.
KK Chua
President, Asia Pacific
I look forward to celebrating many more Anniversary to come. Salutations!!
Message from the GM
Dear Independent Beauty Consultant,
The Skin Care Class Helps You Reach More Customers
Congratulations for a marvelous feat as Mary
Kay Philippines celebrate its 7th year!
During the month of May we celebrate Mary
Bernie Mercado Kay’s birthday and Mary Kay Philippines
General Manager,
Anniversary. At our office we gather to remember
Mary Kay Philippines
our founder and her philosophies. It’s a great
reminder to me of my responsibility as your
leader to remain true to Mary Kay’s founding principles every
day. As you’re conducting your Mary Kay business I challenge
you to do likewise. In my mind there is no better way to honor
Mary Kay than by doing business the Mary Kay way. Here are
a couple of ways to do that:
Selling is about much more than money. It’s about fulfilling a
need. Mary Kay said, “By holding skin care classes, Mary Kay
Consultants can make people happy. You can actually send a
woman home feeling more wonderful about herself.” The skin
care class is just the place to meet new customers and help
them fulfill their skin care needs. It’s where loyal customers are
created. We believe that loyal customers eventually become
Beauty Consultants. They generally have stronger businesses
and greater long-term success. That’s why it’s important to
focus on building customers first. Then you can select one or
two people from the class who you think might be interested
in the business and offer the opportunity to them.
Personal Selling Builds a Strong Customer Base
Providing the Highest Quality Products Builds Trust
Mary Kay Ash always said, “It’s just as honorable to sell as it is
to buy,” and “Nothing happens until somebody sells something.”
She went on to say, that “If one idea could capture the element
that sets top performers apart, it would be customer focus.”
And when it comes to your success and setting yourself apart,
personal selling is key. After all, if you experience selling success
you are more likely to attract others who want the same success.
And that’s how you grow a long-term business!
It’s important that you purchase your products directly from the
Company rather than trading or swapping with other sales
force members. That way you customers are assured of the
highest quality products that have been stored and transported
under optimum conditions. Remember, when customers can
trust your products, they can trust you.
You can hone your selling skills by attending Essential Steps
to Reach Success and other regular education that we offer.
You’ll also find valuable product information each month in
Applause® and The Look.
We appreciate all that you do each day to uphold the solid
business practices that Mary Kay created as she was envisioning
your success. This is your quarter to set high standards for
your business. When you lead by example and pursue your
own success while showing others the path to their success,
the sky is the limit!

steps
to a Red Jacket
1. Attend all Mary Kay functions. Weekly
unit meetings are a MUST. By attending,
you show support for your Director and
sister Consultants. Plus, a guest is bound
to be more impressed when she sees a
room full of people.
2. Have daily, weekly, monthly and
yearly goals. This is important in all
aspects of your life, including health, family,
business, spiritual and social. Where do
you want your business to be in one month
(on-target for a diamond star quarter, three
new business associates, five appointments
each week)?
3. Say daily affirmations:
“Everyday, in every way, I get better and
better. Everyone I meet is a prospect for my
products services. I am healthy. I am happy.
I am enthusiastic.”
4. Have goal posters in your office, car,
on your mirror, etc. reminding you of
your goals. And don’t forget to put one on
your refrigerator!
8|applause|may07
From Senior Director Charlotte Anderson
of Scottsdale, Arizona.
5. Evaluate your appearance. Which
areas would you like to improve? Start
walking or doing some other form of
exercise. Get new hairstyle, try a new hair
color. Start paying more attention to your
wardrobe. Dress professionally more often,
and let your makeup reflect your career.
6. Organize your family. Make them
realize you are serious about your Mary
Kay career. You can do this by disciplining
yourself. Be willing to give up a TV show
to service customers and book classes.
Talk with them about your goals for the
family - like vacations paid for with money
you’ve earned from your career.
7. Complete weekly summary sheets.
Write your goals in pencil and when you
accomplished them, fill them in with pen.
Determine how much you earn from
classes, facials and reorders so you know
when you are improving.
8. Read your Consultants Guide and
every other source of information you
can obtain about your business. Watch
opportunity videos. They are a wonderful
source of inspiration, education, motivation.
9. Organize your office. Make it simple.
Shoe boxes are fine for skin care profiles.
Use an answering machine. Make the
message short and business-like. Record
it yourself.
10. Go to work. Talk to people you meet
daily. Practice, practice, practice. It will
become simpler! Hand out business cards.
Put them with bills, give them to cashiers
at the grocery store or restaurant. Handout
Look books. Be sure your name and phone
number are on all material you give out.
And remember: Smile, smile, smile. People
like to be around positive people. Attitude
is 98% of your business.
As Mary Kay says, “You can do all things
right with the wrong attitude and fail, but
with the right attitude you can do all things
wrong and succeed.
booking
is an
Your
attitude
Mary Kay once said, “Bookings are the lifeline of
your business. Literally, if you’re out of bookings,
you’re out of business.” Booking is a big part of
your 3+3+3 formula for success (3 bookings a
day + 3 skin care classes a week and P30,000
personal sales a month = SUCCESS).
Booking provides the opportunity to create
an immediate income as you hold your
appointments, build a strong customer base
(reorders can provide future income) and
recruit team members (which allows you to
advance in your career).
What a Hostess is All About
Everything in your Mary Kay career begins with booking a
skin care class. You will not only obtain sales in your class,
but you’ll also book additional classes and receive referrals.
Your skin care class provides maximum potential for results
within a minimum amount of time invested. But what does
your skin care class have anything to do with having a
Hostess? Everything!
Who is She?
n Business partner and ally
n Link to more customers
n Assistant
n Friend
n Potential team member
n Most important person in your business
Here are some ways to make booking a part of your daily routine:
1. Talk to every person you come into contact with about Mary Kay.
2. When you shop, you always come into contact with people. Offer a sincere
compliment to someone, introduce yourself and ask the person if she has ever
tried Mary Kay products. Then offer her the opportunity to try the products.
3. Offer samples for her to try. Tell her that you would be interested in getting
her opinion of the product. Give her your business card and ask for her phone
number.
4. Pass out 25 Look Books every week. Leave them everywhere: doctors' and
dentists' offices, beauty shops, laundromats, store bulletin boards, reception areas,
office building bathrooms, mall bathrooms, restaurants, etc.
5. Pass out 25 Business Cards every week. Spray a card lightly with cologne
and insert it when mailing a bill, making a bank deposit, or paying with a check,
cash or a credit card.
6. Ask every customer you call for a referral.
7. Ask every customer you call to be a hostess.
8. Emphasize the pampering aspect.
"I'm sure you have friends who would love to have one hour of free pampering.
Who do you know that would enjoy being pampered for an hour?"
9. Play the "Booking Game" at skin care classes. While their masks are drying,
have them write down the names of their friends and phone numbers as referrals.
For the person providing the most referrals, give a small prize for the most names
(example: an eyebrow brush).
10. Do not prejudge anyone. Share the opportunity and information about our
products with everyone.
“Success in booking is mainly a question of attitude. You can expect success
when you have a positive, enthusiastic, and self-confident attitude.” If you
think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you won't. But remember also,
don't depend on one idea for bookings. Use many. Booking is truly the lifeline
of your business. Master your booking skills and you will sell.
With each booking you make with anyone, your goal should
be to turn that person into your Hostess. Your Hostess is
the most important person in your business because she
becomes your partner in making your class a great success.
So it’s very important to build a long term relationship with
her.
You + Your Hostess = Great Sales and
Greater Success
What Can Your Hostess Do for You?
Here are several things that your Hostess can do for you:
n Provide and prepare the venue for your skin care class
n Invite her friends to attend your class
n Give you basic information on the attendees to help you
pre-profile each one
n Introduce you personally to her friends upon their arrival
at the class
n Encourage her friends to purchase more products
n Encourage her friends to host a class for you
n Give you leads on who to offer the Mary Kay career to
n Host another class for you
n Provide simple refreshments for the guests, if she wishes
When you always keep in mind how integral your Hostess
is, that will help you deal with her in the most professional
and personal way that you can. Always remember to book
Hostesses for life and to ensure that she becomes a lifetime
partner in building your success.

a career for keeps
“Mary Kay is true to its promise of enriching
people’s lives, as it truly offers great economic
rewards, especially to those who have shown passion and determination in achieving
their goals. But over and above the external rewards it gives, I also believe that Mary Kay
is capable of re-molding us to become better individuals. For me, Mary Kay is truly a
humbly, rewarding and an empowering experience”
I
ndependent Senior Sales Director Cecile
Cahoy had mixed feelings back then when she
joined Mary Kay in June 2002. At that time, she
was on leave as a faculty member of the Ateneo de Davao
Grade School. It was her husband in fact who encouraged
her to listen to a business presentation of Mary Kay as
it was introduced to him by a lady whom he met on a
plane ride on his way back to Manila.
A previous user, having ordered products from her coteacher, Cecile was convinced to try the business since
part of her was truly interested in beauty products. After
trying other products, aside from what she already was
using, and seeing that the Company was only asking for
a minimal registration fee, she agreed to sign up as an
Independent Beauty Consultant.
Cecile joined for the primary reason to avail of a discount
on products to try for herself and do a bit of selling on
the side. The big surprise of her life hit her when she
12|applause|may07
made her first sale of P15,000 and her two customers
paid in cash. She realized at that moment that Mary Kay
was worth a try and that great things were in store for her.
And indeed, great things were headed her way. She
became a Ladder of Success achiever, became part of
the Millionaire’s Club, got her Diamond Ring, Pink Car
and even flew to China. This is above the achievement of
becoming an Independent Sales Director in August 2003
and debuting as an Independent Senior Sales Director
by February 2006. For Cecile, Mary Kay has given her
license to look and feel good. It is also a joy for her meeting
people and learning from them and them from her. She
delights in sharing the benefits and the greatness of the
Company.
Despite the fact that she encountered a huge and lifechanging challenge in 2004, having re-located from
Davao to Manila with her husband and three kids, Cecile
did not let her dreams deter her from her goals. She says,
“I made a decision. I had to keep on and continue my
task as a Sales Director. I did it one step at a time. I’ve
stayed with Mary Kay all these years because I believe in
the Mary Kay dream. I should keep on. There is no reason
for me to quit if I want to achieve my ultimate goal of living
a more abundant life in the future.”
Cecile has invested in herself and in this business. She
says that it has all been worth it and that you never lose
anything; you just gain in the process. She considers her
Mary Kay career as one of God’s greatest blessings in
her life, as it offers both external and internal rewards.
Being able to achieve financial gains gives her the ability
to give more especially to her family members and friends
who are in need. “In Mary Kay,” she adds, “it’s a career of
abundance.”
thick & thin
The answer lies in one’s motivation to pursue
one’s dreams – no matter what. Meet two
women who have done just that and have been
rewarded abundantly because of their decision
It runs in the blood…
It’s something that runs in her blood, she says.
It’s something that she will never give up … that
is why Independent Senior Sales Director
Genalyn Cabanag of Davao City has decided to
give her Mary Kay career a second chance.
A
BSA College graduate of Ateneo de Davao,
Gen began her Mary Kay career in August
2001 because she loved the products. At
that time, she had a skin problem and when she
used Mary Kay products, she did not only see evident
changes, but her officemates commended her as well
that her skin was improving. She immediately called her
recruiter to conduct a facial and was given a hostess gift.
Gen asked her recruiter to give her an overview of the
Marketing Plan and right there and then, she signed up
as an Independent Beauty Consultant.
Her first debut as an Independent Sales Director was in
November 2002. She didn’t last that long though because
she discovered that her unit members and her people
were not strong. When she made a comeback and
debuted once again in March 2004, her success was
properly grounded – so grounded that she debuted as
an Independent Senior Sales Director in November 2005.
Gen had to
prove that
Mary Kay
was a business with great rewards – to her parents,
husband and in-laws. This for her was the most difficult
challenge she had to face because everyone told her that
being an Internal Auditor of URC for five years with a good
and fixed income – would not measure up to her newfound business. She had to show them – the credible
way – otherwise. And indeed, she did. With the
achievements she garnered along the way – Millionaire’s
Club, Royal Club, Superstar Perfect Star, Ladder of Success
– and a good, steady income – all the important people
in her life were convinced and have finally given her the
support she oh so desired for them to give.
Gen believes that Mary Kay is a great full time business.
“You’ll never be wrong when you invest in MK,” she adds.
Mary Kay has enriched her life because she finally has
a fulfilling career. She has been able to prioritize her time
- whenever her family needs her, she can always be there
for them, not worrying about taking vacation or sick leaves.
She can go whenever she wants to go and nobody holds
her back now to pursue her dreams. Through Mary Kay,
she was able to discover herself, her talents and her
abilities. This is the reason why she will stay for the long
haul. Though she may not be fast, she insists that she is
very persistent. “I am a late bloomer, but it’s okay. I have
my own pace and time and now is my time,” she confidently
stresses.
Gen dreams to achieve the Top Director Trip and Dallas
Seminar challenge and eventually debut as a National
Sales Director. With her formula – believe in yourself,
determine what is important, dedicate and love what you
do – Gen is definitely on her way to superstar success!

Why are successful people able to do things

cosmetics is a field that has no room for the meek and mild-mannered

drive to keep evolving, so must you as an individual. You can either
go forward or backward this year, this month, this day but you can’t
stand still!” - Mary Kay
