We are pleased to welcome to Fairview our new
student intern - Leslie Cox.
Leslie began her internship
with us on September 11th
and has already become involved in the life of the congregation. Leslie is an approved candidate for ordination in the Moravian
Church. She is currently
taking on-line courses at
Moravian Theological Seminary which she says involves
a lot of reading and work at
the computer. Leslie comes
out of the Fulp Moravian
congregation and has taught
Sunday School, led in worship, served on the Christian Education Committee
and was active in the Women’s Fellowship.
Leslie graduated in 2013
from Carolina Graduate
School of Divinity in
Greensboro. She continued
studies in Greek while also
volunteering as a chaplain
at Forsyth Medical Center.
In August of this year she
completed a 36 year career
in information technology
(IT) where she worked primarily at Integon Life Insurance and Lincoln Financial
Group.
Leslie is married to
Ross Cox. She has one
daughter -Lura and two step
-children - Ross Jr. (RC) and
Mary Anne. They are grown
and married to wonderful
people. Leslie and Ross also
have a grandchild - Patrick
Cox.
A goal of Leslie’s internship with us is to help
her experience many areas of
ministry as she prepares to
serve in our Moravian
Church full time. We will be
a “teaching congregation” for
her where she will learn from
us at the same time as she is
sharing her gifts with the
congregation. Leslie has already participated in ministry
at Fairview through leading
worship and teaching Bible
Study. She will be assisting
with teaching of Sunday
School in both a children’s
class and in adult classes. As
we move forward, Leslie will
engage herself in other areas
of ministry under the guidance of Pastor Scott and the
Board of Elders.
Please extend a warm welcome to Leslie Cox as our
student intern!!


Missionary Chapter Lovefeast–


Stewardship Sunday—October

 Trunk or Treat—October 29th
As head dieners, we are prayerfully asking for encouragement and help
during the coming holiday season. Due to some health issues, vacation
schedules, and relocation of some dieners on our call list, we are in critical
need of a few more dieners for this Christmas season.
These Lovefeast services afford Fairview the opportunity to “shine” within
the Christian community of Winston Salem. As dieners, our labors are God’s hands at work
and can touch a person who may be needing a display of Christ’s love in action.
For the Christmas Lovefeasts we will need the following:
Sunday, December 18, 7:00—14male/female “teams”, Saturday, December 24, 2:00p.m.—14
male/female “teams” and Saturday, December 24, 5:00—17 male/female “teams”
Please give prayerful consideration to this plea. If you should feel led to participate, please
contact us at 336-766-3387 or email [email protected]. It’s for God and His glory, Dick
and Ellen Joyce (head dieners)

Amazing Grace Clothes Closet
The Clothes Closet Ministry at Fairview continues to be a meaningful and successful ministry of our congregation. We are grateful to Kathy King, our first Coordinator, who
nurtured this ministry from its beginnings and helped guide it to the place where it is now.
Kathy and volunteers worked hard to build this ministry where it now serves anywhere
from 15-25 families or more one Saturday a month. We have given our “farewells” and
“thank yous” to Kathy and Barry who recently moved to the coast.
We are very pleased to welcome Eugenia Ivy as our new Clothes Closet Coordinator.
Eugenia is excited about this ministry and has special gifts to offer as the new Coordinator.
She has pulled together a team of volunteers to assist her, and we look forward to Eugenia’s
leadership in this meaningful ministry. The Clothes Closet will next be open on Saturday,
October 1st. (8:00 AM - 12:00 noon) Children’s clothing is especially needed. Please continue to keep this ministry in your prayers.

Notes from Lewis
Fairview Moravian Church has a very active Senior Adult Ministry. Last year we changed the name from Senior
Friends Fellowship to Fairview Friends Fellowship. Unfortunately, many of you are missing out on a wonderful time of
fellowship by not participating in this group! We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month (with a few exceptions).
We try to plan a wide variety of programs, including covered dish meals and programs here at the church and trips to
some very interesting places. We would love to have even more people involved in this wonderful ministry of the church.
I would like to highlight just a few of our upcoming activities.
Tuesday, October 11th, 12:30PM
This year the Provincial Older Adult Rally will be held here at Fairview. Tickets are $10.00 each and must be purchased
from Lewis Phillips no later than Sunday, October 2nd. The menu is chicken casserole, rice, green beans, congealed salad
and dessert. The entertainment will be handbell music provided by Karen Strausser of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church.
Let’s have a good representation from Fairview since we are hosting the event!
Thursday, October 27th, 6:00PM
We will travel to GTCC for dinner prepared by the students in the Culinary Arts Program. The meal will feature French
cuisine. Cost of the meal is $9.00 per person (non-refundable). Please sign up and pay your money to Lewis Phillips or
Billie Minish no later than Sunday, October 16th.
Thursday, November 17th, 9:30AM
We will meet one week earlier in November because of Thanksgiving. We will travel to Bear Creek, NC to visit Southern
Supreme Fruitcake Factory. We will eat lunch somewhere in the area and probably stop at several of the pottery studios in
Seagrove on the way home. Please call Sharlene Medley (283-9906) no later than Sunday, November 6th to reserve your
spot on the bus.
Thursday, December 22nd, 5:30PM
We will meet at the church and then go out to dinner at a local restaurant. We will then attend the Salem Band
“Morning Star Holiday Concert” at Trinity Moravian Church at 7:30PM.
“Lambs of God” Youth Corner
The October Children & Youth Gatherings will be on Sundays, October 2nd ,16th, and
30th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Activity Building. Thanks to Matt Hubbard for
coordinating this group!
Fall Stewardship Program — "Experiencing the Joy of Generosity"
In the month of October we will take part in an exciting stewardship program entitled
Experiencing the Joy of Generosity. This three week program will run from October 3rd
through October 23rd. This program emphasizes three themes - The Joy in Receiving God’s
Blessings, The Joy in Managing God’s Blessings and The Joy in Sharing God’s Blessings. Our
Commitment Sunday where we will make our financial commitments to the Lord and His
church will be Sunday, October 23rd. We will have a special worship service at 10:00 AM
followed by a catered luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
It is our sincere hope that everyone in our congregation will be faithful in worship,
Bible study and prayer over these three weeks culminating on Sunday, October 23rd. May we
experience the joy that comes from giving faithfully and generously through the many gifts that
God has given us !!!

The Christian Education Committee is making plans for
this year’s Trunk or Treat, which will be on Saturday,
October 29th. We want to fill the Ball Field with trunks
full of treats. To achieve this goal, we are asking for
your help. Please prayerfully consider bringing your
decorated “trunk” to this event. The decorations do not
have to be elaborate. We will even help you decorate
your trunk if you let us know ahead of time! If you
need candy for your trunk, we will even help with that
as well. Please plan to join us! Just come to the Ball
Field at 3:30 to set up. The children will arrive at 4:00,
and the fun will begin! We are also asking our very
generous congregation to donate wrapped candy for this
event. Candy donations can be placed in the designated
box in the Parlor. As always thank you Fairview Family!
