Scripture of month: “Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction
of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought,
purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. “

My name is Glenn David Vinson. I’m 42 years old and from Trumann, Ar. I had great
parents growing up. My dad was in the Air Force and I grew up all over the world. I got
to see some interesting places, but moving every 2-3 years made it hard to feel like I truly
belonged anywhere. I was picked on and struggled with self-esteem issues. When my
daddy retired from the Air Force we settled in Trumann when I was 13. To “fit in” I
started smoking pot and drinking. I was married at 20, had a son at 22 and got hooked on
cocaine and meth at 24. I’ve been to 2 secular rehabs and this is my 4th time in the
mission. I go so far then sabotage myself. But I haven’t given up and I am determined to
stay and finish what I started years ago, which is a lifetime commitment in this ministry
(I’ve known I’m called all along). I’m thankful that through the craziness, my dad, son
and 2 younger brothers still love me (my momma is now in heaven). I know now that
Jesus truly loves me despite being a twice divorced, crystal meth addict. I can say now
that I am walking in deliverance and am excited to be a servant of the Lord in Mission
Teens. Thank you Jesus!
*Glenn is currently a Assistant Counselor in the program and we are excited to see what the Lord
will continue to do in his life as a staff member at C.M.B.T.C.
My name is Ashley Taro. I am 28 years old and from Binghamton, New York. My parents separated
when I was 2 years old so my grandparents took the role of parents for many years. I grew up
watching both my mother and my father struggle with addiction. At the age of 12 is when I began
using and drinking, like most of us just wanted to “be cool” or “fit in”. I was 15 when I became
heavily addicted to cocaine. I began skipping school, making my own rules and hanging out with
dangerous people. I was about 18 when I discovered opiates. It had so much power over me almost
immediately! I struggled with cocaine and opiates for many years. In 2011 I lost someone very close
to me because of an overdose. It wasn’t long after that I was introduced to the needle. At this point I
had lost all respect for myself and everyone around me. I was controlled by drugs and felt I couldn’t
live without them every day. I hated myself and what I was doing. I knew I needed to change so
finally with the help of my best friend, who never left my side, his wonderful family and with the
grace and mercy of the Lord, I was rescued from that life and brought to Crossville Mission Bible
Training Center. This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do but I know in my heart the
most beneficial. The Lord has really taught me to keep my feet still and I know he is fighting for me!
I leaned on Exodus 14:13,14 for the first 2 months and still read it daily, it really helps me. I know
God is building new character and discipline in my heart. He has many amazing years of walking
side by side with him in store for me. God bless this ministry, the staff here and everything they
stand for and believe in. Today I walk by faith not by sight.
*Ashley is currently a Resident in the program and an Assistant Food Manager. We are
excited to see the Lord working in her life everyday and the new creature in Christ she is
becoming.
I arrived at C.M.B.T.C. on Monday evening 11/23/09 after being picked up at the airport in Knoxville by Sarah Hungerford Steele and
Sara Stevens. I had arrived just before dinner and for those of you who have had an opportunity to visit the center, know that prior to
the Worship Hall opening, everything happened in our dayroom downstairs in the sisters house. The first person I encountered
coming down those stairs for the first time was Jonathan Colvin who was the Resident Director at the time. Little did I know he was
one of many people in the ministry who would have a huge impact on my spiritual growth.
I was an angry 48 year old woman from north Jersey (I call it the good part of Jersey!) because there are a couple of awesome
leaders in Mission Teens from north Jersey. My cousin Pete for one who was instrumental in helping me to get into the mission for
which I will forever be grateful! Bill Murphy is another and in getting to know him over the years is an awesome man of God! I didn’t
want to be here and I had 48 years of hurt balled up in this crass, foul-mouthed woman. I had never read a bible before and didn’t
even own one. In the beginning it took quite some time for me to even find the book of the bible the teacher was teaching from. Little
by little a transformation began! One of the first scriptures I remember reading was Psalm 139. I remember thinking, “God knows
everything about me, He even knows what I am thinking??? Oh no, that was not good! Then I read a little further and it was this
passage of scripture that was instrumental in the healing that needed to take place in my life. “For you created my inmost being; you
knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know
that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the
earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139-13-16 (NIV). Those of you that have heard my testimony know that I have had a miscarriage and two abortions in the days
when I was too busy getting high to care about a human being that was growing in my body. When I read those verses, something
happened. I became sad first because now some serious condemnation began.

I had already been condemning myself for the things I put my family through but this was a whole other level of condemnation! I was
now a murderer! Then anger at the devil for deceiving me into thinking that it was no big deal to dispose of the “tissue” growing
inside of me. Eventually through counseling, a post abortion healing retreat called Deeper Still Ministries and maturing in my
spiritual walk, I had peace and comfort knowing that “...in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been
called according to His purpose.” God has worked so many things out that were bad in my life for His glory. I am a different person
today because of Him and because of Mission Teens.
God has opened doors for me to transition out of the ministry. I will begin working full time on August 17th and eventually will be
leaving Crossville Mission Bible Training Center. I will be leaving in the physical but my heart will forever be here in the ministry. I
want to thank all the people God has used to transform this angry woman from New Jersey into the woman of God I have become. I
want to thank Jonathan Colvin, Sarah Hungerford Steele, DeWayne Richardson and Jamie Smith who were Directors here at the time.
They saw me at my worst but loved me anyway. Barry Taylor, Antonio Eletto and Bob Keely (RIP) who were the Overseer, Senior
Counselor and Dean of Counselors. They told me the truth when I didn’t want to hear it. I also want to thank David and Becky Hogan
for loving me unconditionally when I was not so lovable and didn’t always behave in a Christ like way. There are teachers (too many
to name and some of them already living with Jesus ) that God also used to fine tune my life to become more and more like His Son!
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus
took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and
straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Thank you mission family and I pray God blesses all of you abundantly!
