MISSION STATEMENT
✝ Holy Family Catholic Church is a spiritually and socially active parish. Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we celebrate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by
Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as
we Continue Our Journey of Faith.

Walk With Jesus Daily
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time C -2013
My brothers and sisters in the Lord!
As we focus on the Gospel message of this day, it echoes the call to remain
faithful. This particular section of St. Luke’s Gospel deals with the challenging demands of
discipleship. Our Lord calls His disciples to be a people of faith. He goes on to say
A Message from Fr. Joe Ferraro that even a small amount of faith is enough to work miracles, to achieve great things.
The disciples should also not regard themselves as being owed anything, as if God
should thank them for their faith and service, rather they should remember what God has done for them, and that they are the
ones who, in fact, owe God for their redemption, their salvation, their new life.
The next part of the passage tells the story of Jesus curing ten lepers and only one comes back to thank Jesus. Our
Lord invites His disciples to see themselves as that leper, as people who have been healed, reconciled, and gifted by God’s
love. If they remember who God is and what God has done for them, then they too will wish to give thanks to God. In the
image given today in the Scriptures, the disciples will serve the Lord, not hoping for rewards or thanks, but simply in response
to God’s kindness and love for them.
My brothers and sisters, as we begin this month of October we honor our Blessed Mother under the title of Our Lady
of the Rosary. Let us look to Our Lady in special way during this month as we offer our Rosary to her. Let us reflect on her
life as she never gave up in her faith but, rather, always placed her trust in God during the most challenging times in her life.
As we journey through life, let us always pray, through her intercession and guidance of the Holy Spirit, to give us the
strength we need to journey through the most difficult roads that will lead us closer to the Father. We must always remember
that even when life makes us wonder if God is listening at all, those moments when we feel overwhelmed, we need to cling to
our faith because it is rooted in God’s prior faithfulness and graciousness to us. Remembering this is what enables us to live
by faith, even in the face of those difficult times when we feel that God has abandoned us. It is that special perseverance of
our faith that will allow us to move those mountains out of our way in order to over come the obstacles of life.
Today is also a day to say “thank you” to the many special people in our parish for volunteering their Time, Talent
and Treasure of their hearts for the honor and glory of God. We thank all those “behind the scenes” people who never feel
acknowledged. By saying thank you to our volunteers, we are also thanking God for the special gifts bestowed on us through
those God-given Talents shared within our community. I thank you all for your patience with me as I serve you during Msgr.
Paul’s absence at Holy Family as I also continue to serve to the needs of St. Anthony. Mille Grazie, Maraming Salamat,
Thank you!
Peace,
Fr. Joe

2012, at Autism New Jersey in 2012 and at the ASD

parents facing similar challenges. Justin’s story has been the
subject of a landmark article in the New York Times, “Autistic

More on Infertility...
Close to one in six couples experience infertility at some point
during their marriage. Even if you aren't struggling with
infertility, chances are you know someone who is. On Sunday,
October 20 at 5 pm at Sacred Heart Parish in Lyndhurst, Jean
Dimech-Juchniewicz, author of the book Facing Infertility: A
Catholic Approach, will speak about the physical, emotional,
and spiritual aspects of infertility and share some helpful
insights from the tradition of our Catholic faith. Learn more
about the medical treatment of infertility and about adoption.
There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Signed copies of her book will also be available ($13 cash or
check). If you are currently struggling to conceive or have in
the past, or if you have a friend or loved one who is struggling,
please come to receive caring support and valuable
information. This event will also benefit clergy, religious, and
lay ministers, most especially those who work with married
couples or who serve in Respect Life and Marriage and Family
Life ministries in the Church. For more information -Sacred
Heart Church, 324 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst, NJ 07071 201-4381147

NOMINATION FOR
STEWARD OF THE MONTH
When deciding to nominate a person for the
Steward of the Month Award, we should
consider the following: The TIME that this
person dedicates to parish activities,
community events, personal time with
others in need of assistance, spiritual aid and/or
companionship. The TALENT that this person offers to the
parish and community, willingly and lovingly. The
TREASURE this person offers to the parish and community.
Has he or she accepted the divine call to extend God’s
blessings on those less fortunate through personal sacrificial
giving?
These are important factors to consider when proposing a
person for nomination. Often a prayer to the Holy Spirit is
helpful, too, in discerning the name for nomination.
Please fill out the nomination form and return it in an envelope
marked “Stewardship Committee” to nominate a parishioner as
Steward of the Month.
