ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA PARISH
EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS
Padre’s point of view . . .
The Preface You know that part where you just respond. The Lord be with you, says the priest. And with your spirit, you
respond. Lift up your hearts, the priest says. We lift them up to the Lord, you respond. Let us gives thanks to the
Lord, the priest says. It is right and just…
This is the dialogue which begins the Preface, in short it’s a conversation between the baptized and the
ordained. It focuses on recognizing God’s Holy Presence and giving Him thanks. This dialogue is when we
(Priest and People of God) speak of God’s presence in each Mass and are reminded of where our hearts should
be. We give ourselves to Christ everyday but especially at Mass as we lift our hearts to Him.
Fr. Chris will be in the St. Anthony Church office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
He will be in the Sacred Heart Church office on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Almost everything you ever wanted to know about the
Catholic faith but were afraid to ask!
The Catholic Communities of Effingham County; St. Anthony, Sacred Heart and St. Mary are hosting general inquiry sessions for Inquirers of the faith.
Thinking about joining the Catholic Church?
Every Thursday Evening during the Month of
September at St. Anthony High School at 7:00 PM.
The RCIA inquiry stage is the starting place for adults who
are thinking about entering the Catholic Church. Here you
will find some detailed, Christ-centered guidance on faith
development, Christianity and the Catholic Church.
Our main task here is to develop faith a little bit and get to
know Christ, prayer, and how Christians live. That's the
only way you can make an informed decision about entering the Catholic Church.
The Rite of Christian Initiation or R.C.I.A., is a YearRound Process so come anytime, you’re always welcome!
Contact John Valenti, Pastoral Associate, 217-347-7129 for
more information.

THANK YOU!
We would like to express a heart filled thank you to all who
made our church picnic such a huge success this year.
Thank you to each and everyone of you who chaired a
stand, volunteered to work a shift or two, set up the picnic,
those who cleaned up, and to all who attended. We could
not have done it with out you.
A special thank you to Graham & Jane Wagner and Christie Heuerman for chairing the picnic this year. You did a
great job!

Pro-Life Corner
Does Zika justify abortion? There is a major outbreak of
the mosquito-borne Zika virus in Latin America, and in
recent months a number of cases in the US have been
reported. Zika has been linked to birth defects in newborns,
one being microcephaly. Infants born with microcephaly
may have smaller than normal brains and head size, which
can result in neurological disorders.
Some are viewing abortion as a solution. However,
abortion is not a legitimate response to the crisis. What does
it prevent? What does it cure? For children who have
already been born with microcephaly, would it make sense
to kill them?
As Father Frank Pavone from Priests for Life said, “The
child in the womb is a patient too, and killing one’s patient
is never an appropriate response.”
BE a VOICE for the VOICELESS!
Please join us for a Pro-Life Social on August 23rd at 6:30pm! If you’ve never been to a meeting this is a
great opportunity to meet others with an interest in pro-life. It will be hosted at the home of Rick & Jami Johnson (18280 Wild Oaks Dr, Effingham). Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share with the group. Contact
Valerie at 217-868-9406 or Jami at 217-690-3622 with any questions.
