2014 Issue 6
You may recall me saying some time ago that we are
currently in the process of updating our Reception classroom
environment. Mrs Barker, Mrs Jones and the Reception
team have been working extremely hard and the fruits of
their labours are now beginning to show. Bespoke zones
have been created that signpost the children to different
activities, resources and learning opportunities. There is now
an ‘art and craft’ area and an area for ‘small world’
construction. We will also be supplementing the
desk top PCs with some laptops that will provide
another
exciting
dimension
to
the
children’s
learning. On the front of the new colour-coded
storage boxes and units are labels and photographs
of what is inside and this is helping to develop the
children’s independence when choosing equipment
and helping them to tidy up more efficiently as there
is more coherence to where things belong.
The children will soon be getting new tables in
bright, primary colours and Mrs Barker and Mrs
Jones will be developing new role play areas within the class bases.
It really is an exciting time in our Early Years base and it is wonderful to see the injection of
colours and vibrancy. The children, in particular, seem to really like their new environment...and
above all else, that is what matters
most.
We have star pupils in Reception in this issue of the Newsletter.
Harry, Grace and Harriet came to show me their beautiful writing. They
had made their own sentences about growing seeds and what we need to
do to look after them. Their writing was really neat and they had confidently
used their knowledge of letters and sounds to work out the spelling of the
words they had chosen. Well done superstars!
I also want to congratulate Chloe in Year 6 who has recently passed her
Grade 2 flute examination. Chloe also played her flute during our recent
Easter Service in church.
Finally, this week, well done to Jack Lucas who has been signed by AFC
Telford youth team! As well as this, Jack captains the Wrekin Tigers U8
team who were recently crowned 2013-14 champions in the Telford and
Wrekin Cup Final. Jack clearly has great potential and we look forward to
following his progress over the next couple of years.
SATs Assessments
Children in some year groups will be undertaking their annual SATs assessments in school next week. The children will, as always, be given lots of encouragement in school to do their
very best. You can help us in school by making sure that your child has a few early nights next week and plenty of
rest so that they are fresh and alert in school. Thank you for your support.
School Association
Due to this half term being so short, the School Association have decided to postpone the pop quiz, originally
planned for Friday 16th May, until the Autumn Term. Look out for this event being promoted from September. Also,
Mrs Fishman has been elected Vice Chair of the School Association. Our annual Summer Fete is only a few weeks
away. No doubt parents and family members will be asked for support and contributions nearer the time. Please help
your School Association if you can as every penny raised at this and other events directly benefits the children in
school.
Sue Wilkes
I have recently spoken to Mr Wilkes, Sue’s husband, and it is his and his children’s wish to have a new bench on the
playground in Mrs Wilkes memory. I will be arranging for this to happen during the next couple of weeks.
PE Kits
Just to remind you, as you begin to maybe think about uniform requirements and purchases for the Autumn Term,
that from September we will be introducing a standard indoor PE kit across the whole school. We would like all children to wear a plain white round-neck t-shirt and navy blue shorts for indoor PE lessons. Thank you for supporting this change in our uniform policy. All other items of school uniform remain the same as present.
Mrs Mitchell
We have some lovely news to share with you in this Newsletter issue. Mrs Mitchell, who is one of our Y1/2 teachers
is expecting her first baby. Baby Mitchell is due to put in his/her first appearance in early September and so Mrs
Mitchell will leave us, temporarily, in July to commence her maternity leave.
