Looking Towards The Big Game in 2014.
There is a countdown in the daily local newspapers reminding us. Next year’s Super Bowl is less than 300 days away with
the first cold weather game in history scheduled to be played at
Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on February
2, 2014. From all indications, the impact on the New York/New
Jersey area event industry will be unprecedented.
In anticipation of a huge ripple effect of local area pre and
post game parties, the Hank Lane family of
companies has been preparing for months
for what will undoubtedly be an increased
demand for our organization’s core businesses of music, entertainment, audio/visual
services, lighting, décor and games. “The
New York area is used to big events,” says
Harris Lane, president of Hank Lane Music.
“But the Super Bowl is like no other. We believe that in addition to the pHarris Lane
usual influx of out of town
businesses that travel and entertain at the
Super Bowl each year, the sheer numbers of
Fortune 500 companies that are based in the
New York area will change the equation. We
will be ready.”
“We have already been fielding offers to
book name entertainment for pre-game parties,
pMarc Stevens
says Marc Stevens, managing partner of Hank
Lane Music. Our unique ability to provide any or all of these
services under one roof and to package them together we think is
a win-win for our clients.” We are dedicating a significant portion
of this newsletter to Super Bowl related events.

Memories of
Super Bowl XXV
by Harlan Ellis
For football fans it was one of the most thrilling games in Super Bowl history. The New York Giants vs.
the Buffalo Bills on January 27, 1991 at Tampa Stadium.
The game that will be forever known for the Bills’ Scott
Norwood’s field goal attempt sailing “wide right” in the
waning seconds of the game giving the Giants their second
Super Bowl championship. It was also known for the late
Whitney Houston’s stirring rendition of the “Star Spangled
Banner,” all the more so, because the game was held while
the U.S. was in the first Gulf War.
For Super Bowl XXV, I spearheaded a team representing Hank Lane Music in Tampa. We were hired to provide
music and entertainment for dozens of corporate pre and
post games parties set up in Super Bowl’s first Hospitality
Village. In addition, we provided three days of concert acts
and family entertainment for the three days prior to the Big
Game at what was called Super Bowl Town Square. Before
heading to Florida we spent months screening Florida based
bands and entertainers who we then presented to a list of
corporate clients that included, Coca-Cola, Ford, Nissan,
Pepsi-Cola, Phillip Morris, Sports Illustrated and many
more. We also lined up “oldies” groups for the concert main
stage all kinds of specialty talent from roving Dixieland and
Country bands, reggae bands, clowns, stilt walkers, magicians, caricaturists and more. With the outbreak of hostilities
in the Middle East security was exceptionally tight. All of
our talent had to arrive hours earlier to be inspected by law
enforcement.
With Super Bowl XLVIII coming here, I know the experience I had in Tampa
will prove to be
invaluable to our
present team. Being
on our home turf
all these years later,
corporate clients
may take advantage
of the vast resources available from
what has grown to
be one of the premier private event
music and entertainment companies in the Tri-State area.

City Harvest held its annual “Evening of Practical Magic” gala at Cipriani 42nd Street.
Chaired by Backal Hospitality Group president Arthur F. Backal the event honored Chef
Marc Murphy of Benchmarc Restaurants and was hosted by Ted Allen from the Food
Network’s hit show Chopped. With our Bobby Attiko Band on hand to play the dance
music, Grammy Award winner John Legend donated a private concert to a lucky live auction winner and actor Richard Gere donated a private dinner to another winning bidder.
The evening itself raised $2 million in support of the hungry
in New York. Additional celebrity guests included the newly
crowned Miss USA Nana Meriwether.

New York’s iconic Essex House hotel was recently purchased by the Marriott Corporation as the latest addition

Hank Lane Music provided a jazz trio in the hotel’s beautiful lobby. More Than Music DJ Gil spun cool tunes in the
Grand Ballroom along with “Art in Action” artist Brian Olson. The highlight of the
evening was a performance by Jon Bon Jovi and friends who played a 30 minute
acoustic set that included some of his biggest hits including, “You Can’t Go Home,”
“Saturday Night,” “Wanted Dead of Alive” and, of course,
“Livin’ on a Prayer.” DJ Gil kept the crowd in the party
mood well after the show.

One of the goals that we established for
ourselves when Hank Lane Music decided to
open an office in New Jersey over a year ago,
was to sign bands that were already established in the local area. “When we planted
our flag in Livingston, we knew that it wold
take some time to open up some doors,” says
Ian Magid, a partner in Hank Lane’s New
Jersey operation. “We
wanted to shake things
for Super Bowl Parties, up in New Jersey and we

Jersey,” says Russ Bennett,
also a partner and band
leader. “My aim as a New Jersey native has been to network with
the musicians I have known for years and bring them into the Hank
Lane Music fold. With the signing of the Howard Taylor Band last
year and with the additions of Spotlight, the Frank Simmons Band
and the Billy Stone Bands this year we are well on the way. These
bands are now available exclusively from our New Jersey office.
pFrank Simmons Band
Lead by saxophonist Frank Simmons, The Frank Simmons
Band came together with a common goal of delivering high quality
dance music. From performing at Met Life Stadium for the New
York football Giants and The New York Jets to impressing crowds
at Atlantic City nightclubs and galas, this band has a wealth of experience with entertaining guests of all ages.
The Billy Stone Band has performed all over the tri-state area,
including Atlantic City’s most prestigious hotel resorts such as The
Revel, Bally’s Beach Bar, and the Borgata. Corporate events and
weddings are a speciality. Under the direction of keyboard/vocalist
Billy Stone, the band’s enthusiasm and energy never fail to keep the

age range and style preference.
Spotlight is a fresh, youthful, fast-paced and energetic powerhouse band. Delivering non-stop sets of Top 40, 1980’s, Motown,
Funk and Classic Rock anthems, Spotlight wows every party with
choreographed dance moves that keep people of all ages engaged
and captivated on the dance floor. Lead by the husband and wife
team of Jason Alexander & Monica, Spotlight features 5 dynamic
