Member Profile
We Are - David and Mary Hamilton. We are both
migrants from Southern California. Mary from the San
Fernando Valley (yes, she was ‘like totally’ a valley girl)
and David from Claremont where his family owned several
drugstores in the Pomona Valley, since 1929. We both have
a love of the outdoors and head out on camping trips on a
monthly basis, with our “furry kid”, Cooper. Mary is the green
thumb in the family and David is an avid cyclist, riding both
road and mountain. We enjoy the SLO life and having the
Edna Valley as our backyard.
We Work - Just enough to enjoy the finer things in life
(i.e. good company, wine and grub). To pay the bills, Mary
has worked as an Environmental Scientist at the Water
Board for the past 17 years. On a good day, her office is a
remote creek and her uniform is a pair of waders. David is an
advertising sales executive working for iconic media brands,
such as; Motor Trend, Hot Rod, Surfer, Petersen’s 4Wheel &
Offroad, for the past 19 years. We both love our jobs.
We Joined - because we absolutely love the Niven Family wines, the entire staff, the
fun pick up parties and wine club events. We live less than 5 miles from the Schoolhouse
and frequently take visiting friends and family to the tasting room and the bocce ball court.
We’ll set up our beach chairs and picnic basket full of goodies on the lawn and soak up the
million dollar Edna Valley views.
We Recommend - taking advantage of the member only events! We also love
meeting friends for the extended hours in the summer to enjoy live music and sip wine
while the sun sets behind the Seven Sisters.
We Vividly Remember - the wine club event at the historic Point San Luis
Lighthouse where we were treated to an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres and a private tour
of the grounds. One of many Club 1909 events we have attended and enjoyed.
We Drink-all of the Niven Family wines. Some of our favorites, this year, include
the Tangent Albarino on warm days and when winding down after work. The Baileyana
El Gordo Chardonnay and Trenza Obispan have been served with dinner on numerous
occasions. The new SBAR Syrah is delicious and is what we are drinking…now. Cheers!

UPDATE
FROM THE NIVEN FAMILY
TRUE MYTH
new label design – True Myth
The newest project in the Niven Family Wine Estates portfolio has a new look! True
Myth is all about Mother Nature, as we believe she is the one ‘true myth’. Taking
advantage of Her gifts of rich and fertile soils of the Edna Valley and Paso Robles, these
wines seek to delight and inspire, while maintaining the exceptional quality of which the
Niven Family has been known for the last 40 years. True Myth presents an authentic
experience, which only Mother Nature can express: one of depth, wonder, and a little bit
of magic.
Over the course of the last few years as we were rolling out True Myth, we saw the
opportunity to take True Myth’s look and feel to the next level via an elevated label design
that visually aligned the Chardonnay and Cabernet and matched the depth and wonder
of the wines that our winemakers had created. This led us to work with Sarah Berger,
of Makers and Allies in SLO, a very talented designer who has helped us capture the
modern, artistic and soulful design we were looking for.
The label consists of an image of Mother Nature in the background, a mysterious,
enigmatic figure, with beautiful butterflies enveloping her hair and surrounding her face. A
striking, yet mysterious interpretation of the one True Myth.
We hope you love the new look as much as we do!
Big toasted oak, marshmallow, pear, pineapple, and buttery aromas.
This El Gordo Chardonnay has a rich, creamy mouthfeel with
flavors of dried apricot, vanilla and a touch of nuttiness. This golden
hued and full bodied wine has an oaky sweetness with smooth, silky
tannins. Flavors of honey and vanilla are prevalent throughout the
wine as well as on the finish.
