HIGHLIGHTS
Fall 2012
How important is PRAYER? A fair question and one that solicits an array of answers were we to interview the believers and non-believers. Ultimately, I am convinced all would have to agree that
PRAYER is worth the praying.
In recent weeks and months, I have experienced a renewed awareness of the power potential in
prayer. My own journey in these recent days has been blessed with divine presence and healing because the people of God have been praying. Thank you from the depths of my heart. Please continue. I have a ways to go. As you continue I want you to know that you have also been prayed for
many times. My dear friend, Pastor Bobby Robinson, now enjoying heaven, used to always part with
these words, “Pastor Jim, let’s swap prayers.” Family, let’s do just that. Let’s “swap prayers.” God is
healing because YOU have prayed.
Could I encourage you to pray for another need for healing. Please pray for the healing of souls.
Lost and broken people need to know Jesus. Believers need to be encouraged and lifted. All of us
need to continue to go deep in our love for Christ and our willingness and desire to obey Him.
Would you also pray for the planting of new churches. Our assembly response to Dr. Porter’s message was overwhelming. Pastors and lay people have a desire to honor God with obedience. There
are communities all across our district without the blessing of a Nazarene Church. There are locations within communities that have existing churches that need new preaching points, Bible Studies
and Mission Outreach locations. We must be busy and faithful to the task of sharing the Good News
of redeeming grace.
Pray 2 Chronicles 7:13-15 and then experience 2 Chronicles 30:27 “The priests and the Levites stood
to bless the people, and God heard them, for their prayer reached heaven his holy dwelling place.”
God loves to answer prayer. Let’s pray so He can do so.
Your DS and friend,
Jim Dillow

Dear Joplin District,
Thank you all so very much for participating in Mission Joplin! What a wonderful experience for us all to
work side by side, young and old, and “Follow Jesus” together! You are a great group of people and it is a
blessing to be your leader. Make sure you save your favorite t-shirt from the week and we’ll wear them during our NMI convention! Pray for the three families who received the homes that God will invade their lives
and they will become “followers of Jesus”!

September has 3 Important
Things to Remember:
October Emphasis
1. Send your assigned Missionary
Christmas Fund in to Global Treasury Services by September 15,
2012. (Check your goals page on
13-14 of the NMI Resource Book to
find out your assignment. More
information about this important
fund can be found on page 47 of
the same book.)
The second half of our church year starts in October. It’s a
great time to do a check-up with regard to your church meeting
its goals toward becoming a “Mission Priority One” church. Is
your local church praying for missions? Are the adults of your
church investing in your youth and children and involving them in
the mission focus of your church? Are you faithfully contributing
to the World Evangelism Fund in addition to the various offerings
collected? Are you regularly educating your congregation of the
world’s needs and those of our missionaries? If you need some
ideas in these areas, check out pages 49-50 of the NMI Resource
Notebook.
2. Alabaster Offerings are collected
during September as well as February. Through the faithful giving of
Nazarenes around the globe, over
8,800 projects have been funded
and built through Alabaster Funds
since its inception in 1948. 100%
of these funds go for the purchase
of land or to build buildings needed
on our mission fields.
3. The Emphasis for the month is NMI
Membership. This is a great time
to start establishing the NMI membership of your local church body.
That way, it will make reporting in
April much easier. For guidelines,
see page 45 of the NMI Resource
Book.

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is Sunday, November 11, 2012. Do you realize how many of our
Christian brothers and sisters around the world are in jeopardy simply because they have accepted Jesus Christ as their
Lord. You will find information about his important day at
the NMI website in the prayer section.
The Thanksgiving Offering for World Evangelism is Sunday,
November 18, 2012. May God bless your efforts to help
fund our mission program in the Church of the Nazarene.

The Potter’s House
Greetings from The Potter’s House! Another school year has begun and with it a number of
changes have been happening at Potter’s. For the last few years, Steve and Berna have
been praying for a couple to have a call on their lives to come in and continue the ministry
that they have been faithfully a part of the last twelve years. During the spring semester, a
couple became very aware of that call. And in June, Robb and Amy Gossen officially started
a year of transition with the Proffitts as co-directors. This means that over the next year,
Steve and Berna will be working very closely with Robb and Amy as they learn the ministry
and all that it entails. While the leadership may be changing, the vision and purpose of what Potter’s House stands
for will not. The Gossen’s have a desire to build on the legacy that Proffitts have built and are excited to see what
God has in store during this next chapter of The Potter’s House. The Proffitts will also be involved in the future of
the ministry just in a different role that is continuing to unfold as God reveals His plan
for their lives. Robb and Amy are incredibly passionate about reaching the university student and would love and come share their vision and passion with you and your church.
Please feel free to contact them if you are interested in having them come and share at
your church.
